2019 MCW Mexican Chicken & Rice Cold Weather MRE Review Meal Ready to Eat Tasting Test
The MCW has been in service for over 15 years now, and for good reason. An optimized cold weather ration that really covers the bases in palatability, shelf stability, and ease of mass production. This ration is the result of decades of development, leading to something tried and true - and one worth coming back to for a review for all 12 of it's menus.
For correspondence, or to send a Military Ration for review, my mailing information is:

No Steve for four months. He is sorely missed, I have had to resort to digging in the back of my cupboards and finding my own expired food to eat. Last night it was 8 month past expired pound cake. I said "Nice, lets get this out on a tray" and spent the next ten minutes munching on my dry and crunchy pound cake. Tonight it will be 2 year old spicy ramen noodles.

Going back to Re-watch this video is very bittersweet for me. My dad originally introduced me to Steve's channel, and was a big MRE guy. He followed every single MRE channel out there and acquired some pretty cool ones over the years for us to eat. In that way, it brings back happy memories... But on the other side.. When we watched this video together on its original release date last year. Neither of us has any idea that my dad only had 10 days left on earth. He sadly passed away fairly suddenly from complications following a heart attack, on his birthday. He was only 62....seems kinda young for this day and age.. We shared a lot of interests over the years, and he was always a really good friend, while still being a good dad. RIP bud... I'll come back to this video every year and think of you... I hope you're out there, somewhere... And thank you Steve for providing in your videos a bunch of great opportunities for me and the old man to take a break from our busy lives and spend quality time together. I know you likely won't read this comment due to the age of the video. But it had to be said. To everyone else... Spend time with your loved ones whenever you can. Don't ever be "too busy" to visit, or travel for Thanksgiving or some other holiday.. Make time even if you have to inconvenience yourself to do so.. Don't ever say "well, I'll do it next year" or "we'll get together next time".. My father and I still had a ton of stuff we had been planning to do for years, but were in no rush because we thought we had time. Don't make the same mistake and live with regrets. Peace and long life to anyone who may have come across this comment. For those of you going through a rough time right now.. May you all have a better, and wonderful day, week, month, year.. Whatever you need.

Hey man, I'm really sorry to hear about your dad passing on so suddenly like that. Dude, 62 is way too young. Thank you for passing this along, and I hope you can find some peace and good times with new folks in life, and the friends and family you already have too. Nothing will likely fill the void completely by any means, but maybe doing some of those things you two planned together with someone else in life that you trust and value as a friend or family member. Keep on rockin' man. Life goes on and there's so much to be grateful for. Wishing you all the best, dude! Take care.

Mullins is also famous for having one of the highest crime rates of any city or town in the country.. It's kind of shocking but it's completely true.. I stumbled across that information while doing research for a paper I had to write.. It's not just property crimes either.. The rate of violent crimes like rape and assault are way above the national average.. I believe the crime rate in Mullins was higher than 98% of the country if I remember right..

@@MarkLada I hate to say it but a lot of the tiny cities have pathetic crime rates. Usually the unemployment is high, drugs are plentiful and the nearly 'no-budget' Police are spread way too thin. There are numbers in relation to the number of Officers needed per numbers of citizens. The problem is that the numbers always show that only one officer is needed. When only one officer is on duty, all the criminals have to do is be aware of their location. I have worked in rural law enforcement in the south for many years. When a city has a tiny police department, the county LE kinda write that city off as 'Not our problem'. I have worked as the only officer on duty in a small city a lot. I have worked as the only officer on duty in an entire county, too. Mullins, you can be proud of keeping the War Fighters fed well. The crime problems are strictly the fault of a city council that doesn't want to fund it's local police and a county government that doesn't think within the city limits is part of their problem. Like everything in our modern world, it all comes down to money. Y'all Take Care and be safe, John

I can relate, I'm that Uncle hahaha. I've always wonder what my niece and nephew think of me. When they were younger and acting up really bad my sister would call me and get me to tell them if they don't stop I'm going to come over there and they weren't going to like it. Worked every time some times she just had to threaten to call me. I never even had to do anything they never tried me. I would have hated to drive a total of 8 hours to retain my reputation (more than likely wouldn't have unless I was bored at the time). Coating the osmotic cranberries with the grape drink powder - pure genius. Makes good use of the sugar and artificial flavourings. A food chemist told me that banana was one of the easiest artificial flavours to make, there's a non-toxic chemical that smells exactly like it. You mainly taste with your nose apparently.
@nhatpham9933

Very true about the nose stuff. If you hold your nose and eat an apple and an onion, you wouldn't be able to distinguish them. The texture is almost identical.

For some reason I can usually distinguish artificial banana flavor pretty easily. I don't like natural banana flavored things, but artificial banana tastes downright revolting. Like chemical nausea mocking banana essence.

I love these videos, I’m pretty certain that I have watched all of them, some multiple times. What I would really like to see is a “making of” video. From the search for a ration to the filming and editing of the final product. It would be interesting to see it all in the third person like we were all with you while it was all being done. That would be nice. Also, I can’t wait to see another homemade ration, Thanksgiving was such a treat. I also wonder about out takes and deleted scenes too. Keep up the amazing content Steve, it’s crazy how a simple history hobby can be so interesting and inspiring. Please don’t get sick. Thank you.

That would be Awesome! I too would like to know the details. Plus, he could do it in kind of a mockumentary style.. interview with dad about what age he was when he first heard him say 'nice hiss', find out from Mom if everything had to be on a tray with compartment to get him to eat anything as a toddler, etc. 😉
