The Mercedes C300 is very compelling. Luxurious, classy, and quick. But what if you want a bit more driving engagement? The Acura TLX A-Spec offers you some of that, for less money. So what's the catch?
Note: We did consider the ILX to go against this, but the TLX felt like the better fit and the extra power doesn't hurt!

So basically: The Acura is a better car The Mercedes is a nicer car
@AFCompany

Ash Moe I’ve been in both and they both drive very smooth and comfortable. Acura’s drive a little more sporty and fun, but Mercedes are way more luxurious feeling inside by a long shot. If I could get an Acura with Mercedes interior I’m sold.

@@AFCompany Nothing to do with interior. Mercedes has a better body structure, just like many other German competitors. Acuras do drive sporty and handle well, but it feels cheap. The structure isnt as solid and overall nvh isn't on par with the Germans. You can put an S class interior in that TLX and it will still drive like the glorified economy car that it is. I'd rather just get a civic instead of buying a wanna-be luxury car if I cant afford a real one.
@AFCompany

JJ Smith agree with most of what you said except a Honda drives nothing like an Acura. Acura’s are much smoother and more solid feeling cars. I can feel every bump in the road in a civic. Ya it’s not a Mercedes but not a Honda either.

Having driven these both and knowing them intimately well, aside from the prestige of the Mercedes, the TLX A-Spec offers so much more bang for the buck. While it is not as refined as the Mercedes and without question, C300 is so much more classy, still, the TLX is an overall better drive for me. Great review guys. Entertaining, informative, and pretty much spot on!

@Giri Zela But the taxi's in Europe, for example, actually kind of prefer Diesel because Diesel fuel is less expensive than traditional gas and they get better gas mileage and those engines are practically bullet proof. I don’t understand why everyone is ragging on the interior of the Acura. I think the controls are very functional, flexible, and easy to navigate. I love the dual screens, and the ability to permanently display the map on one screen, while being able to simultaneously access other controls on the other one. And, I love the integrated look of the screens. IMO, the screen on the Mercedes looks kind of ghetto in comparison; it looks like someone just stuck it to the dash with Velcro or double sided tape, kind of like those Garmin devices we used to buy and attach to the dash in the days before cars had screens. I honestly expected more from a brand that promotes itself as one of the most luxurious brands in the industry. The silver buttons across the center look kind of like those buttons on cars from the 70s. Circular vents also look old fashioned to me. And, an analog clock? Now, that’s dated. Extras that come standard on the Acura cost additional on the Mercedes, making it very expensive. Furthermore, Mercedes become money pits in terms of repair costs shortly after the warranty expires, with the cost of parts through the roof. An extra $2000 for a feature where the Mercedes logo lights up a certain way when you open the door? What a pretentious brand.

Nice to see some Ontario plates in car reviews lol, first time watching your channel and I’m liking it. Two pretty cool cars but if I were in the market for one of those I would take the TLX Aspec without a doubt. Reliability from Acura/Honda is legendary. I wouldn’t say that the aspec is a legendary performer but between these two I would say it’s the most fun to drive. What they really need is a turbo V6 Type S version. I am an original owner of a 2007 TL S 6 speed and never want to let it go, in my opinion it was the last sporty TL and better looking also but I have to say the new one is growing on me. Still needs a 6spd option though. Either way 👍🏻 to Acura for trying to be sporty again but seriously, bring back the TypeS line up of cars, PLEASE!

Unfortunatelly, we don't have Honda Accord in Europe anymore, but fortunatelly I'm moving to the US and this car is first on my list, SH-AWD V6 with all the package upgrades. Power is not an issue here, I plan to put in a supercharger and that will make 500hp for a fraction of the money other similar powered cars cost.

I own a 2015 TLX v6 awd, it’s got 92k miles, the only thing I’ve had to do besides the scheduled maintenance is replace the tires and brakes and battery. I’ve had 0 issues with my car. I wonder how many other people can say the same about their car.

William Fernandez somehow the tlx has many complaints and recalls on nhtsa. I think most complaints and issues are 4cyl model. I have 07 tsx at 250k miles. It breaks a lot. My brother 03 tl didnt have any issues up to 250k miles. Trans died at 250k miles lol. He never changed trans fluid.

Fantastic review. I wish we could get a tad more steering feedback, just a touch more low end torque, and - well I suppose that's all I really want. I like how low the seating is in the TLX and the lack of body roll is fantastic! I feel SIGNIFICANTLY less body roll in a TLX than I did in my old Golf GTi. When I _drive_ a TLX I honestly NEVER think: "Oh my, all that hard plastic" - that comment actually made me laugh. And yes, you MUST use Car Play or Android Auto with this car.

Pavle Kocoski XDrive is better than Quattro, at least in terms of driving in snow. I had the same winter tires on my old 2013 SQ5 as I do currently on my 2016 X5, and the X5 gets stuck much less in the snow and I overall feel like I have more control with Xdrive.

U don’t look at the merc base price as a starting point. The real price is base car + premium package. It’s what most dealer lots have and the lack of features without it makes it embarrassing as a Mercedes.
@TheDrummingXbox360

If we don't look at the Merc base price as a starting point, then why is it the base price? Mercedes is an embarrassment due to the lack of standard features and the ridiculous upcharge you pay, just because of the badge. Not only that, but the car won't last very long. Newer Mercs, Beemers, and Audis are pathetically overengineered and cost way too much for when repairs are needed (on the frequent).

I've driven both of these cars and the TLX was the most surprising. The C300 4Matic rode great (air suspension!!) and drove extremely well-planted, but it didn't have the character or steering-feel of the TLX. Even though the TLX I tried was a FWD V6 model, it was more fun to drive, and equally as fun to drive as my current 2012 A6 3.0T Quattro.

This week's I picked up a full spec 2019 C200 4M rental car at the dealership. That thing was awesome but the ride was a bit stiff due to the AMG sport package suspension but overall very smooth. Just drove it like my regular car with my used to sensation to speed but once I looked down at the speedometer, I was doing 157 in a 100 zone. I really consider to buy one. Even tho it's just a 200, it had plenty of power

People never give Honda enough credit for SH-AWD. It was the first full-time all-wheel-drive system that could torque vector from front to back but also side to side in the rear wheels, all the way back in 2004. People love to jerk off at Audi and Subaru’s awd system but don’t realize Audi didn’t add this technology until late 2000s and early 2010s on their top of the line S models only, and Subaru to this day doesn’t have torque vectoring in the rear via a differential, they use brakes to torque vector on the STI.
