First car I ever crashed was a 1960 Morris Mini Minor. I was 4 years old and pushed the starter button on the floor and went into the Officers Club in England. That was in 1961. Now I'm 62 and life has come full circle. I saw this edition and immediately sat down and purchased it that day. It was the first car I remember my Mom and Dad driving...and now it is my car... I used to race for Mazda...but always liked the Cooper's.

Awesome review!! I saw this car at the dealer the other day and it’s absolutely breath taking. Knowing the brand I would say this car for 44k it’s a steal because only limited quantities were made and in the long run this car would gain value instead of losing value.
@johnwayne2103
@johnwayne2103 5 жыл бұрын
Um not really. If you think this thing will gain value I highly highly doubt it. Maybe if you keep it for 40 years but these are not like cars made in the 1960's and earlier. These newer cars are just built with electronic junk that will break in 10 years.

For an outrageous $44k, it should have a full suite of safety features and 360 degree camera view. Looks like a fun weekend go-kart, but not anything more.

A 360 camera is just not needed on a Mini. If you need help getting thru those tight spaces with a car the size of a shoe . . then you really *do* need help.

Highly enjoy your professional and entertainingly objective reviews! But, the lack of blind-spot monitoring on a sporty small car ( considering the huge SUVs everywhere) seems like a dangerous omission on BMW/Mini's part.

You do understand that the actual existence of a "blind spot" doesn't actually exist, that it is only due to folks not knowing how to adjust their mirrors correctly, right? Imagine yourself in a track car where you have only 3 mirrors at your disposal. Your car is outfitted with either Sparco, Momo, Recaro, etc; seats that have pretty aggressive head bolsters. Then imagine that you're wearing a racing helmet and have a racing neck collar on, as well. In that situation, how often do you think that you can actually turn your head to look back to see what is behind you? If your answer is "never", you are correct. You are limited to glancing left and right, if that. And this is your entire visibility while driving 10/10ths on a race track. Most folks adjust their side mirrors so that when they are centered in the driver's seat, they see along the side of their car when looking at the side mirrors. That is entirely incorrect! Why folks continue to do this, I still do not understand. Your side mirrors should be adjusted to roughly 30 to 45 degrees outward (there are many videos on how to properly adjust car mirrors, look it up). This allows you to see an object that is wanting to pass your vehicle in your center mirror, then both your center and side mirror at the same time (either side), and then just your side mirror (when they're right next to you) as they pass you (and you can look left or right, and right there they are); or in the reverse sequence if you are the vehicle passing them. At no point did the car disappear into a "blind spot" (because a "blind spot" doesn't actually exist, it never has). I don't know if you have noticed, but MINI is a driver's car and most MINI drivers absolutely love being engaged in the actual act of driving their car (without aids). If their car *nudged* them back into a lane because they didn't use a blinker while crossing a line (e.g. lane departure assist), or they had a light blinking (or worse, a seat vibrating) when another car was next to them, they'd leave the brand altogether. They'd throw a fit! So yes, that is why such "lazy driver" features do not exist in MINIs; they're entirely pointless to folks that actually like to *drive* their cars. MINI drivers are a strange breed who prefer the rawness of the drive, and thankfully, most of them know how to adjust their mirrors correctly.

@@josephfetz1748 That's one big, long excuse, my friend ;-) BSM is the most important new safety feature to hit the auto industry since ABS. How about they offer it and then REAL MINI drivers like yourself disable it?
@adoptalife69
@adoptalife69 5 жыл бұрын
@@josephfetz1748 I have begun to notice a degraded approach to lane changes. Drivers with BSM seem to not check for cars overtaking from a distance back where the BSM has not registered their presence. Nothing showing with BSM...Lane Change Now! Don't have to use mirrors anymore. IMO these driving assistance systems are taking away safe driving practices as operators become lazy to the device. Not that I am a fan, but all or nothing. Self driving car or drive the damn thing yourself. Just saying.

Unfortunately, BMW has still said “nein” (German for “no”) to Android Auto...
@josephfetz1748
@josephfetz1748 5 жыл бұрын
There is good reason for that. Android Auto is owned by Google. Google is dead set on having every piece of data on every human being on Earth in its databases. BMW Group (who owns MINI) was not comfortable with giving that much of their customer's personal information over to Google in order to incorporate Android Auto into their vehicles. So BMW Group gave a pass on any Android products being on their vehicles due to privacy concerns of their customers (but you can still sync Android devices via Enhanced BT, just like any other phone, but no personal data can be stored or transferred). BMW simply wasn't willing to give Google/Android access to the sensitive personal information of their customers that Google was asking for, so they rejected Google's offer. That is the straight-to-the-point reason that BMW Group rejected Android Auto altogether: they were protecting their customer's personal data. That was actually a good move on BMW Group to allow Apple CarPlay, and not Android Auto. Apple's system is merely a mirroring system (it simply puts your apps onto a screen on the car), whereas Android Auto is a fully-integrated system that listens in on conversations using keywords, sees where you've driven/visited, and integrates with KZfaq, Facebook, and Google Ads. It's quite invasive and creepy.

Hemming Feng to each is own. I drive super fast Porsches and I also own a 2019 JCW 3D. I love it and I can tell you that this JCW will out perform Porches on corners as it rides like it's on rails. Not as fast as the 930 Slope but when I'm done she will be modded out to 400HP. Not bad for a small little JCW. ;) It is expensive for a smaller car but..... not as expensive as a 911s. either. ;)

44k nein !!......outrageous and this is coming from one who owned a 2002 Cooper S as well as a 2011 Cooper S. 44k is serious coin and competes with the BMW M240i at 4.6 seconds 0-60 and with a 3 liter inline turbo 6 . Orange paint -= ho hum, Limited edition = BFD. If I wanted a JCW I would go for a "normal" and save some bucks.

Price(s) are unjustified. Just because it's "English" made with German technology doesn't mean it should be priced like Jags and Beemers. I don't have confidence in the brand just on price alone. I loved the r53/56 cars, but these new ones are too bloated for what they are trying to be.

Why is it so hard for them to get 250hp? I don't care how small it is (and its not small anymore) it needs more horsepower and for almost $50k there's no excuse for not having it, and the "premium car" sticker just hammers my point home. You get a limited edition model that will never actually be a limited edition thanks to the problems these cars run into late in their life. I want to get one of these but they lack things that other cars for this price just don't, and 28mpg for a car this small with such a small engine is just disgustingly bad.

You need to be a bit more critical. No interior color line, standard JCW engine regardless of it being a 'special engine' and the ridiculous 43k price tag pulling nothing special for the edition outside of the color and carbon fiber mirror caps. No carbon fiber interior bits and no carbon fiber hood intake. No strut brace. It's a $36k JCW priced +7k for a mid year money grab. As an owner of 7 of these guys, this one is the worst with the highest price to plastic ratio of any model. Also, what exactly does Twin Power Turbo mean? They've got the same engine in the BMW i8 and yet they skimp on the ratios for the JCW special edition. This guy should be rocking 300bhp easily. Pass.
@andresfresa123
@andresfresa123 5 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind it’s a limited edition with one of the kind paint color meaning if you take care of this car it the near future the price could go up, and limited quantities were made. When an American company has car market as limited edition means “last cars of ash year”
@patrickforman8140
@patrickforman8140 5 жыл бұрын
No Interior Color Line? It has the black color line, because the other choices wouldn't match the exterior (you want red or brown color line with the orange exterior??). Its got a JCW engine, but the optional JCW exhaust with bluetooth control to switch between street and track mode. Your Math is off, just with the factory options this car has (navi, hk sound, etc) would put it over $40k, add the limited color, JCW exhaust, carbon fiber mirror caps, and bam you've got your price tag. Is it overpriced, one could argue that. Is it a $7k price grab.. not by a long shot stop exaggerating. If you've owned 7 MINIs how do you not know what Twin Power Turbo means? Its is a single turbo with two ports. The i8 has the 1.5L 3 Cylinder Turbo, this is the 2.0L 4 Cylinder Turbo JCW motor. Two completely different engines.
