We do a review on the new Nissan Rogue Sport to find out why these are one of the best selling CUV, SUVs. While the Sport is more affordable like most vehicles it gets expensive fast. There are tons of choices in cars and tucks and everyone is cross shopping Honda, Toyota, Ford and Mazda, so does the Rogue have staying power?

It’s a straight forward car that takes you to points A to B, good gas mileage and minimal repair service if you take care of it. 🚗 obviously, this is not a race car with monster horse power. Simple👍🏼 However, I do wish Nissan could bring back the traditional transmission like in the good old days.

Damaris Salgado I’ve had mine for a month now, and I agree with you 100%. I also feel that the engine / CVT combo is the weakest link in this otherwise good small SUV. Spacious and practical. Doest it deserve the Sport in its name ? Nope ! At least its not called Sport here in Canada 🇨🇦

Doesn't really mean much. I'm definitely not vouching for Nissan's quality but I've seen brand new cars of various different brands come off the lot with mufflers that looked worse. Climate and weather make a lot of difference. Quickly formed surface rust on mufflers and exhaust pipes is normal and taken into account in their design.

Drove one of these for three weeks while my 2004 Toyota Matrix was getting body work done. Now, maybe it was because I had been driving a fifteen year old car, but I thought the ride on this thing was excellent, and I also loved the steering dynamics. It made me feel like I had been driving a "Flintstones" car by comparison. And even though it's not a "full sized" SUV, it does give you that "commanding" up high sitting position. Bottom line, if you do most of your driving around town, and you are not a car "aficionado", you will probably love this car. I did. I ended up buying a Jeep Renegade because I wanted a manual trans, and I was a bit scared off about the reputation that this vehicle had with it's CVT, which the reviewer mentioned, they've had enormous quality control issues with it for many years. But that being said, I thought it had a stellar ride, and I thought the interior was very nice also.

I think you are on point with the reason people buy this thing, it's the same in Europe. With reviews like this, it really shows how good you do your job! It's easy to talk about a nice and powerful car, but this is an appliance and you did a good job showing it for what it is!

Drove several Qashqais in Europe (same car), but all of ours were diesel and had a 3rd pedal. Lots of slop in the shifter linkage, but otherwise I enjoyed the car. Great range, comfortable seats (in the front anyway). I ended up renting one while driving through Poland, and it was a normal gas engine (still a manual, at least). It had zero power and the clutch was terrible. The diesel/manual combo is definitely the way to go and would have put a smile on your face for all the reasons you mentioned why you actually liked the car. Good driving dynamics, button/control placement is good, visibility was great, and ours even had a usable (albeit low-res) 360/birdseye system.

Had a rental Qashqai with diesel/manual. Took a rather long roadtrip with four people althogether and really liked it. It was comfortable and had a little push at the start of the power band and good gas mileage. Would not want to buy one to keep long term, cause reliabiliy and getting boring eventually, but this combo is a valid option for lease or rent.

I work for Enterprise and I can't even begin to describe how popular these cars are. People will ask for the Rouge and Rouge Sport over any other car we offer. Just the other day someone asked for a Rouge instead of the BMW X3 I offered them. Not to mention I am constantly sending customers over to the sales department because they want to buy a Rouge. This is one of the most popular crossovers on the market right now, and I just don't get it.

I rent a lot for work from you guys. I've gotten Rouge's a couple times as free upgrades, plus their other sedans. They aren't the best cars, but one thing they do well at is they are very comfortable and the features are pretty decent. I imagine that's a big factor when people are choosing just cars. I drove a X3 as an upgrade, and unless you like that sporty car type handling then it's going to be too stiff for your average yokel who wants a cushy ride. I never would buy one with my money, but for rental, very good option.

Would have much preferred an all wheel drive Dodge charger.

I completely agree with his description of the Nissan CVT. I drove a friends Sentra and it had no power over mountains (live in PA) and I thought it was going to blow up quite a few times. I currently have a 2005 Altima, which was before they switched to CVTs and it’s been a pretty good car, however, I won’t be a returning customer while these transmissions are being used.

I truly felt like I had the bare bones of a car which was a feeling I did not like. That’s why I hate on rogue’s ig 🤷🏽‍♂️ my mom had a 07 Murano SL AWD and that car felt luxurious than a Sv rogue. Thanks for the great review. Very accurate. I own this same vehicle but black 2018.5 model. Nice vehicle but sorely underpowered. Should have 175 HP and 2017, 2018 SL Premium package should have automatic dimming rear view mirror, electric passenger seat, Bose stereo, driver seat memory. These features are now added to the 2020 model. This is no cheap vehicle, fully loaded with some dealer added items like mud guards, rear bumper protector and door & hood film guards the vehicle is around $35K. I now think I should have gotten a fully loaded CRV or larger Rogue for the money. Thanks for the great review. Very accurate. Nimble through a major city and easy to fit in parking spaces of all sorts. I put dealership installed Continental Extreme Contact DWS Ultra High Performance tires on and it improved the handling much better than the stock Bridgestone Ecopias, especially in the rain. I see tons of regular Rogues just up the road in SE Wisconsin, but hardly any Rogue Sports. I think the Sport makes the most sense in the cheaper S or SV trim levels, especially with FWD instead of AWD. I'm kinda surprised that Mr. Goose didn't knock them for including those massive wheels and low profile tires on this particular vehicle. Last but not least, I hope that SG can review a Nissan Kicks this year.

Im renting one right now. Drove from Modesto to Los Angeles and its been smooth and efficient on the freeway. Awesome on gas. But the sound system sucks. You can't change songs on a cd while driving. The steering wheel won't extend so you have to reach the whole time vs adjusting to your liking.

Good short review of this Nissan Product. Never a fan of those CVT vehicles. Again, who makes a good CVT for any vehicle? Honda, Toyota and others make them but they have similar issues. Also, the comment about all the junk they are putting on top of one's steering wheel, hit home. God, have you seen or driven the Kia Sorento suv. All the buttons on the steering wheel make the cruise control unusable. Hands always hitting it. And the radio button is all wrong. Appreciate if you would do a test drive of the 2019 Kia Sorento and add your astute insights.

Awesome review. I saw one of these yesterday and I think it was sharp looking. Then I watched a few reviews and they all say the same thing, blaahhhhhh. it’s a shame they downgraded the engine otherwise it might have actually been sporty being that it’s smaller. Oh well, not for me. Not that Nissan cares since the sales are huge....

I couldn’t decide between the rogue sport and the Subaru crosstrek. After test driving them I picked the rogue sport because the steering on the crosstrek was too responsive and I was afraid I was going to get carsick driving it. Sometimes I wish I had gotten over my fear of driving bigger cars and test drove the rogue.

Was just in a work road trip rental of one of these, my comments: 1. Too much road noise in back seats. 2. I think suspension tuning was too bouncy (sitting in the rear), trying to use my phone required two hands to stabilize it even with 4 adults loaded into it. 3. Rear seats not good for 2-3 hour rides for adults, my buns were not happy. My ass was happier on a 70 mile bike ride yesterday. 4. No power ports in the rear. My 1996 Grand Voyager had that! 5. I did like the CVT programming. At one point when it was floored it seemed to hold RPM at peak power. 6. Nissan road noise is kinda high imo, was similar to a friends 2018 Sentra.

Nice video again. The main problem of Nissan is they are the Japanese Chrysler. They are good short time rental vehicule but you can't buy one thinking you will keep it for 10 years. Just look at the road and see how many old nissan you see vs other car brand. You will see way more older toyota, honda, Nissan, Huyndai than Nissan. If you know cars well enough, just go near a high traffic road and count the number of car you know they are about 10 years old by brands. You will see that not many of them are Nissan, if at all. And the sad things that should not break on these cars break. They just cheap out stuff. It's probably good cars to rent for 3-5 years but do not plan on owning one long term.

Isn't this built on a Versa platform? More cargo space than the Kona, still has a CD player too. Called the Qashqai in Canada, seeing a lot of them lately. They sell them in funky colours to hide the bland.

Mr La Subaru cars also come with CD player even in 2019, all others don’t put a CD player anymore, this is one of reasons why I like Nissan cars, but other than a CD player, Nissan cars usually not very good, especially CVT cars.

I just rented one for a few days, just my personal takes. Pro: as a rental, it has lots of the features i didn't expect. Propilot assist, 360 camera(although very low quality that i find it useless), parking sensors and i guess it being a crossover Con:Acceleration is sloooooooow, like it goes 0-100kmh in 12 seconds slow Handling is meh to the best, maybe its because i drive more aggressively than other people, but the suspension just feels too soft and unsupportive to me the brakes are kind of weird if you do any emergency braking, it feels like cornstarch, where if you step on it quickly there is more resistance and almost feels like stepping on a stone. Also for some reason, if you try to accelerate after hard braking it will limit RPM in the 2k range for the "1st gear", making 0-100kmh to like 17 seconds I also find that the road noise a little too much, as I need to increase my voice to communicate with passengers compare to other vehicles. Fuel economy is also not very good, I average around 10.8L/100km on the highway. For comparison, my RX350 3.5L NA engine gets around 12.5L/100km, and the Golf rental I got(i know its a hatch) gets around 7-8L/100km Personally, I would just take a Corolla or Civic hatch and rent a bigger car for the days I actually need the space.

People bash on this thing for having a $30k+ sticker, but it's a Nissan. They usually run really competitive incentives, plus you'll be able to pick one up in 1-2 years for under $20k. Yeah the CVT is garbage and it's underpowered, but for someone just wanting a basic crossover with a decent amount of tech, it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
@boxlad7583

Still not acceptable tbh. Looking at my Mazda Cx-5 that has a very similar sticker price at the grand touring model, this is absolute garbage. Worse engine, worse interior, worse tech, worse handling, worse suspension, less reliable. Idk what Nissan is doing anymore
@92ASC
@92ASC 5 жыл бұрын
@@boxlad7583 your Mazda will also probably retain its value much better than the Nissan will too. That's my point, you can get a relatively new low mileage loaded Nissan for dirt cheap. That's not to excuse the shoddy build quality or the bad transmissions, but those factors are reflected in the resale value.
@boxlad7583

The Qashqai (the name used everywhere else except the USA) is a nice ride - I like it more than the standard Rogue. My primary concern however is still that Jatco Xtronic CVT which I do not trust to hold up over long term. I do actually enjoy driving it and see what it is popular among regular car buyers, but for the most "into cars" kind of buyer this isn't really anything special.

Buy what suits your needs and can afford. This channel comments are the wrong place for recommendations on anything not 'sporty'. I have a Honda that have transmission crap out, a Toyota with blown head gasket. Then you have the Hyundai/Kia engines that blowup and catch fire. Things happen. Just try your best to keep up maintenance.

Amazing that the same company that made the awesome '86 Nissan Maxima my father had when I was a kid makes such unoriginal transportation boxes like this now. Heck, his final car was an '09 Altima (with CVT) and after he passed away none of us wanted the thing because it was such a soul-less snoozefest of a vehicle.

My boss at my old job had one of these which I drove regularly. I could never understand why anyone would buy one. It was sooo slow, struggled to go up hills and the steering had tons of play in it. It was a brand new car but it drove like it was an old worn out car from the 1990's. The ride was relatively smooth though.

Couldn’t fathom buying this over the new Mazda 3 AWD hatch. Probably would have more cargo space, too. It’s a much nicer vehicle with a more powerful engine and better transmission, and overall would cost less to buy. But you get that extra 1 inch in ground clearance and a higher “perceived” utility with the Rogue.

I don't think it's that much of a puzzle why these are selling. I can't think of another vehicle I have seen more ads on TV for. IMO, the reason you see so many is aggressive financing by Nissan and fleet sales. I travel often and I’ve driven two in the US, and a diesel European version in the UK all from Hertz. The one I had in the UK, while still underpowered for my taste, and same blah interior had much better suspension tuning than the US version. It also had options (like parking sensors and speed limit detection) that the US ones don’t seem to get.
