It blows me away how you are able to 1) do all of this genuinely-quality work as effectively as you do, 2) record and edit it into concise snippets of quality entertainment for us, 3) manage to find the time to reply to as many fans as possible, and 4) still manage to make a profit (I presume.) You're a gem, dude. I will be here until 1,000,000 subscribers and beyond.

I also work a full time job and spend 10-14hrs a week at the gym (sometimes I have to skip for the marathon weekends). It is getting harder, as my channel grows, to reply to everyone but I try to keep up whenever I have free time. I have not lost on a rebuild yet after doing over 1000. I thank you for the support. I would not be here without you guys and the support keeps me motivated to make more videos. Thanks for watching.

You may already have a comment for it, But I didn't see it in the comments. Maybe ad a small solar panel and charge controller in the tool box to keep the battery topped up when the trailer is just sitting outside. Defiantly like the idea of lighting up the forward part of the fenders in order to be able to see them from the rear view mirrors. Love your videos and your attention to detail.

I have a 2019 PJ B6, with drive over fenders, and a 14K gvw. I've used it to haul a few vehicles, and mine and my folks SXS on a trip to NH. I've been nothing but impressed with my trailer! I also opted to get it in desert tan, so it looks good behind my "commando green" ram 2500. Just a friendly tip for you, if you want to help save the life of your ramps, flip them upside down, so when it rains while you're driving, water doesn't collect in the c channel or the ramps. Awesome video man!! Thank you for some of inspiration for my trailer!
@vehcor

@@MrBigredtaco99 I really wanted the 14k super wide with monster ramps but the ROI just wasn't there for me. It was way more than I needed and purchase and operating costs are much higher. Thanks for the tip on the ramps, so simple but I never thought of it. I am less concerned with the rotting c channel and more with the fact that every time I pull them out I get soaked. lol Thanks for watching and good luck with your trailer.

Trailer looks good. When I did my trailer we used large tool box. The one that fits inside a truck bed, so that it’s not wide. I mounted spare tire under front of trailer so it’s not mounted open to be seen. It has a lock so can’t be stolen. My 10,000 lb wench we mounted in a cradle with a hitch. Welded bracket for mount that is bolted and can be removed. On top of storage in large toolbox the hitch has a tray for all your blocks and chocks. Ya it’s pretty sweet. 18’ dove I love it. My dad helped me make it what it is today. Could not of done it without him.

I own a 18 foot utility trailer, heavy duty with a pipe top rail. I added swivel trailer jacks on the back rear corners, on each side. I use a block of wood depending on the height needed to ground, and when I load a tractor or vehicle the swivel jacks carry the load of the vehicle or tractor when it loads down the back of the trailer and prevents the trailer from picking up the rear of my truck, or forcing the trailer down on the rear. Did this about 20 years ago, work perfect ever since. They swivel horizontal against the trailer when not in use, just pull the swivel pin and it drops and locks, or horizontal. Hope that helps, enjoy your channel. From the South Texas Border.

I certainly hope you don't have a truck or pull trailers. If your main concern is headlight alignment and not a load that is unsafe you don't need to be on the road with one. If the back of the truck is sagging, the equipment is not right for the job or not loaded correctly. My lights are aimed correctly and do not blind anyone. My fog lights are aimed correctly to be a reminder to the a-holes on the road to act right. They get used accordingly.

Don't know where your at, but I always assemble electrical grounds/connections with dielectric grease to prevent corrosion from road salt. Always wear safety glasses when cutting metal. Last always aim your headlights at 25' from your garage doors. Those LED bulbs rotate to allow you to get the elements horizontal for your beam pattern. Otherwise you get a big blob of light, with no cutoff line, that just blinds oncoming traffic. That's a ticket in some states

Black tool/battery/equipment boxes will exceed 170°F in the sun on a still day. Light colors will go about 130°F in same conditions... like hot beach sand. So, if stuff inside is sensitive, paint chrome or put an aluminum shield over. [1/2 in gap... 12mm for foreigners] Like your work. Thanks. 👍🏼🤠

You put a battery on your trailer, you can now delete the breakaway box and only run the switch (the one with the wire you hook to your truck) from positive to brake line of trailer. That's what I did since I have a winch too on my '08 Suretrac.

Dig it, good video. On my trailer, I installed rear back up lamps on the rear edge of the trailer next to the rear, red running lamps. Wired them into the 7 pin. When I shift the truck into reverse those lights kick on along with the factory back up lamps on the truck. They are white, oval LED, same style as the read Oval tail light. Having them sure assists backing up in the dark.
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
I never saw the need but I tried turning on the lights under the deck for backing up once and it was such a help I did end up wiring them into the 7 pin connector. They now come on in reverse and I can turn them on when loading even with the truck parked. I have a diode in the line to keep from setting codes in the trans when using the switch to turn on the lights. Thanks for watching.

Hi Vehcor... Nice Job! making the Brackets & Bolting them to the Trailer Frame. I do the same thing instead of welding. Nice Idea & size for the Tool Box Winch & switches. Remember to maintain the wood on your Deck by Pressure Washing & using a Wood Preserver every 2 years. You can also have the Undercarriage of your new Trailer Rust Proofed or Oil Sprayed to prevent rust. I too bought a new 2009 18' Kaufman Car Hauler with an upgrade Diamond Plated Deck & 15 " Tires with extra D Rings. I haul Vehicles here in Toronto too. Nice replacement Lights that I will be getting too. I replaced all the Lights on my Trailer with LED Lights & 2 Backup Floods. Thank you for taking the time to share your Ideas & Video. Grace

Welding would have been faster but I could not bring myself to grind up the brand new powder coat. I did end up wiring the lights under the deck to the back up lights on the truck since they were so useful for that purpose. I can still turn them on with the switch for loading as well. Stay safe on the roads up there and stay warm! Thanks for watching!

Really impressed with this set up. Attention to detail and i dont think there is such a thing as overboard. I am looking into adding a winch to my trailers even though they are not car haulers. Would like to throw an idea of using a Solar panel to keep up the trailer battery. The smaller 2.5 watt kits are pretty cheap. The switch panel was spot on in my opinion. Enjoyed watching this clip.
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
I did consider the solar charger, since it is always hooked to my truck it would be like a battery tender for both together. I don't know how I ever used my old trailer without theses modifications. I have easily saved more than the time invested in these mods since I have been using it. I may have a part 2 eventually: how I have the tool boxes set up, what I carry with me, some attachments I have for the trailer and maybe that solar panel. Thanks for watching!

I am getting ready to mount a winch on my 18` dovetail. I like the idea of putting it inside the box. I have one on my 20`, but it was plenty long enough to mount directly at the front of the bed. I don`t think I`ll have enough room on the 18` to do that. when I have a car on, I have to pull forward so far so the doors will clear the trailer fender, there is not enough room for a winch.

Nice job. I recommend you fabricate a weather tight seal in the fairlead opening so no moisture gets inside your winch box & corrode anything if it's parked outside or during road trips. I made my winch removeable by fabricating a male & female trailer hitch mount set-up on the A-frame of my tandem trailer so nobody can steal it or it gets stolen along with the trailer. I might make mine removable inside a box like you did though for those long hauls if it rains or snows I could just leave it mounted. Right now I'm about to fab up a removeable winch mount for my single axle trailer using a dual hitch extension type set-up. That way I can carry the winch on the back of my trailer to help offset the tongue weight during trips & just plug it into my trailer hitch along with the 7-way elec. cord when it's needed to pull something heavy up onto the trailer. I also recommend getting a wireless remote control for the winch so you can help guide & steer vehicles etc. onto the trailer when no one is around to help you. Add some wireless Bluetooth marine type speakers for some jams. Some wireless remote control switches for your trailer lights & accessories is a good option also you might want to consider. Have a great day & GOD Bless :-)
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
I think I might make that cover, it would be pretty easy. Water has not been a problem yet but it could be. The winch does have a wireless remote and I have yet to use the hand held. lol The radio might come in handy when I am putting suspensions on the vehicles to roll them off the trailer. lol Thanks for the ideas. to hell with ramps! i bought a new 20ft tilt bed road warrior last year and its been glorious ever since! and i added a 17,500 smittybilt winch to the front because no kill like overkill!
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
I only use the ramps about 30% of the time. End loaders load and unload. A tilt bed costs more and is heavier. So I could not pull the same weight as this unless I moved up to a 14K trailer. Then the cost to pull and plate it also increases. So, I would be paying more money for a trailer at purchase and the life of the trailer that I only use as intended 30% of the time. This is the trailer that made the most sense financially and I have no regrets. I can also load cars backwards if I have too. Which can sometimes be a problem with tilt beds if they are gravity tilt.

Some viewers are commenting on your 12V wire from your 7 blade plug to the trailer to keep your battery charged. I have a dump trailer that I also installed a small 50 watt solar panel on top of the tool box that holds my hydraulic pump and battery. It just ensures I have enough power to control the hydraulic pump and also enough power to control the 12 volt electric tongue jack.

I was thinking about the solar charger just to keep the batteries on both the trailer and truck charged when they sit for a couple weeks. The wire in the 7 pin plug keeps the trailer charged when I drive with it on the truck.

Fillet is the method I have been taught as best practice engineersfield.com/types-of-welds/ also the side joint do look butt welded If you require strength I would go with a V if beveal groove for better strength. for the aplication prolly not needed but always best to go with stronger joints

Hi Scott just watched this episode as I am going through all your videos . Noticed all trailers in America have timber floors is that because of rust as in Australia they are all steel . Thanks great job as usual 👍👍👍✅✅

Wood decks are cheaper and you can nail blocks into them to chock loads. Not to mention they are easily replaced if damaged. Steel decks are available but less common. I did consider a steel deck but I would have had to order it and wait 16 weeks. This one was on the lot and ready to go and I’m impatient sometimes. 😂

Very nicely done. I enjoyed watching. A few upgrades you should consider is Sterling Power Battery to Battery Charger that way your not having to worry about a down trailer battery. It chargers the trailer battery off the truck. Electronic brakes for the trailer and some running and turn leds wired and mounted on the fenders front side and rear to see the trailer alignment on the road also for others to see your trailer mainly when turning or lane change. Also more of a convenace but a backup camera on the end. :) Thanks for the videos. :)
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The trailer has a constant power lead from the truck in the trailer plug. It charges off of the alternator as I drive and the volt meter in the trailer is a way to make sure it is charging and charged at all times. The led maker lights are actually enough to light the lanes around it. I would like a back up camera though, I might have to look into that! Thanks for watching!

If you are putting a lot of miles on that trailer, go for a TPMS. Spares ar nice for AFTER the blow out, preventing blowouts from low pressure is much better! You can have one tire low at night and not feel it for 300 miles until it blows, by then the other one is overheated and weakened and will blow out the next day... If you find yourself in tight situations at night, add some 'turning lights' just ahead of your trailer axles, LEDs aimed to light up the area ahead and around your trailer tires so you can see what's back there, activate them with a wireless remote control on your dash. Back-up lights on the tail end as well, but those should be very bright and run off your winch battery with a relay, and 2 remote control switches. One on dash for normal use and tailgaters, the other either on your keychain or in toolbox. Wired to winch battery in case you need light before truck is hooked up. Mount a small LED work light on the front of the tool box with it's own local switch, wired to winch battery, aimed at hitch for hitching up at night. 12V hitch jack. Weld on some RV stabilizer Jack's to the tail end corners, tucked up where they will not drag, then you can unload without the truck if you need to.
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
I was planning on the tpms as that is the reason for 99% of blow outs. Thanks for the tips and it does have removable stabilizer jacks in the rear, I just had them off at the time. Thanks for watching.

OK, I gotta admit, you do much better work than I've seen on here or I do... I'm envious. - Only thing I'd do differently is put the battery mounting J hooks upside down so you can get to the nuts from the bottom for when you change the battery, and maybe mount the on deck lights higher and farther out. I'll look for a update on how you end up liking the set up.

Man !! This has been one of my favorite videos ever. You really made all the modifications look easy when I know it's not. I read quite a few comments and your answers, and I might be even more impressed with your brain. lol one thought I about the deck you said about it rotting, do they make a composite that would be thick enough and also not crack under the weight of a car or what ever you're hauling?
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
It may not have been the easiest job but I love fabrication work so it was a lot of fun. I do plan on replacing my deck with composite when it is time. These should last me at least 5 years and by then the trailer will probably be do for a paint job. As much as I try to keep my stuff in good shape, it is still equipment and does get some wear and tear. Thanks for watching and the tip.

Very nice work! I too have a PJ equipment trailer (18' 10k), but the tongue on mine is too short for a box with the way the jack is mounted on it. I welded a receiver tube to the front stop bar with some bracing, and put expanded metal in the bottom of the tongue for an area to throw chains & straps. I am about to run welding leads from my truck battery to a connector at the bumper so I can plug my winch right in and run it off the truck. One less battery to buy and maintain when it doesn't get used often enough to justify it for me.
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I did notice they have a lot of different configurations for the tongue. I specifically looked for this one and a 20 footer (need the length for big trucks). I did go through a bunch of different ideas before ending up with my design. One did include the expanded metal tray but I like having the tool box to keep sticky fingers off my stuff. I do end up in the city some times and the auctions are not always in the best neighborhoods. I had a similar winch mount to yours on my old trailer. I never used it for that, just to latch smaller trailers to it. I hear you on the price of the extra battery, this one was ridiculous. However, I do like that I only have to hook up the trailer harness, plus I am able to use the lights even if it is not hooked to the truck. Thanks for watching!

There is a diode mod you can do to this year model that will allow you to run both dim and brights at the same time. Its a simple cheap mod that allows alot of brightness when brights are needed. It is a 10k trailer for hauling trucks, most car trailer are 7K like my last one. The 10k might be overkill if you only plan on hauling cars. The headlights are definitely bright. That was all the sponsor's idea. Hey it adds to resale since I will be selling it soon.

@@vehcor or you can use coolant (like threader oil) to keep your bit cool when drilling. At our shop we use S-30 cold saw coolant or a cutting wax. Just a little goes a long way and you don't have to slow down your drilling speed. Why didn't you store your battery in one of the toolboxes? It'll keep the road spray from corroding the terminals.

My only thought for an improvement would be to add a light in the box, something on a switch that could turn on when the lid is opened. This would allow you to see what’s going on in there at night. It wouldn’t need much just a couple LED’s would do it.
