As you have seen, I just passed the 1’000 mile mark. I’m going to carry on building revs and load over the next 200 or so, and then 100-200 hard. @@Saddlebags73 Hi - yes it is important for the oil to be in good condition when running-in. Whilst still a bit tight, the oil gets chewed up and the crud is not good for the motor. Regarding wallowing on bends, do set the pressures as Avon recommend F28 R29, especially the front. The handbook says 18psi which wrong and is not for Roadrider but some indian tyre. On my bike it became apparent the factory had not put the full amount of oil in the forks. Correcting that made them perform perfectly. They should be 'soft' 5 weight. But they are dual rate springs and double acting dampers, they are not 'simple' like on the Guzzi. I estimated the actual blood line to be around 6800 to 7000 rpm. The limiter on mine is reset (complicated) to 6000rpm and it will go there. In other words you cannot over-rev the motor with the stock rev limiter. Running the motor too slow so it's going, "pukka pukka pukka", may well hammer the bottom end. It really doesn't like pulling top gear below 35-40mph, it likes to be running around peak torque at 4000rpm 66mph. Power band roughly 3000-5000rpm 50 to 80mph.

Jeff Slade Hi, and thanks for all the advice. Regarding tyre pressures, I knew that the book must be mistaken and have been running 28/32 so not too far out. I haven’t checked the fork oil, I should have a look. I try not to put the engine under too much load a low revs. Hopefully what I’m doing is working, it certainly feels like it’s working. In comparison to an 8000 mile model I test rode, the vibrations are minimal. It’s only when I get to 65mph things begin to buzz and I ease off.

@@Saddlebags73 I am 95kg but was heavier, and have managed to lose 5 stone. So I add a little more in the rear. 65mph in top is 4000rpm and peak torque, the start of the true power band. It ought to pull hard from there upwards. So yeah, bring it up to that vibration in the earlier gears and it will gradually dissipate and let you rev higher as it should. @@Saddlebags73 Chrome SmartWax RimWax, paintwork Auto Glym High Definition Wax. Lasts years. After that it's spritz with detailing spray and wipe off dirt with a soft poly cloth. Bucket of suds once a year and maybe reapply wax. I am so not spending a week detailing a motorbike ;)

Bucket of suds. Farecla Smart Uniball on the spokes, looks like it will shred or explode but doesn't. Spoke brush. From new thoroughly clean the paintwork and seal with a resin sealer e.g. Britemax Extreme Elements (which closes pores in the paint) then a good hard carnauba car wax e.g. Autoglym High Definition Wax. Late bro in-law had a little car detailing company For the chrome rims, Smartwax Rim Wax, certainly killed rust spots on the spoke nipples, the spokes are stainless. Works on other chrome but not the hot exhaust. Its wax protects the chrome; avoid Solvol Autosol on chrome, it makes micro scratches. Fiddly places hard to get at, detailing brushes, MO94/ACF50 and do the Fillingham. Me, I'm lazy, I do not spend ages cleaning a bike, I want to ride it.

It’s quite an extensive list of products, but I’m writing them down. Thanks for taking the time to make the recommendations. I was exaggerating on the time it takes me to clean the bike by the way. I like to ride too 😀

Their is no bullet 350 chrome... Classic 350 chrome is available.. Bullet and classic they are not same ..bullet will give you more riding comfort than classic

Hi, many thanks! I haven’t seen a chrome/green one, nice! The 19 tooth sprocket is something I’m considering now. Would you say it’s taken much away from acceleration? I don’t feel the need for the carbery plate at the moment, as vibrations seem to be minimal now it’s fully run in. @@tomstockell9481 No problem. First, the reasons I changed the exhaust. Bear in mind I only changed the silencer, and still run the original header. 1. I don’t like the look of the standard silencer. This is of course down to the individual, but for me it was far too long. 2. It was far too quiet. A big single should come with a bang, and it didn’t. (Again, personal preference). 3. The standard silencer incorporates a cat, which is restrictive. (I cannot vouch for any difference in performance, as I was still running the bike in when I fitted it). 4. Weight. I’m afraid I don’t remember the numbers, but the stock silencer is a hefty lump. The replacement is well under half. I fitted a Hitchcocks silencer, which is a UK company. It’s great quality and sounds louder than the original, without being anti social. There are other options. Another KZfaq channel, ‘iRidetas’ has an AEW Goldstar fitted to his Classic chrome. Same results for less money I reckon. If you want a link to the Hitchcocks pipe I’ll add it to the comment, but if I’m honest it’s going to be expensive compared to others. I hope that’s some help 👍🏼

@@Saddlebags73 I think it was the purist brigade that didn’t like the Electra X. To them it was a departure from the Royal Enfield marque. The gear shift and rear brake were shifted around to the modern configuration and there were some cosmetic changes but at the end of the day it was still an RE. I live overseas in Malta now and have faithfully promised my wife that I won’t ride again… We’ll see… 😬😬😬 If I do it will be RE, there is a dealer here…

Absolutely! I’ve had my RE 500 Pegasus for nearly 3 years and I love it to bits, and one of the reasons I got it was because it’s got NO CHROME on it! You don’t notice the mud and crud with the camo paintwork/livery. Cars, trucks, bikes? I clean them possibly once a year - if they need it or not, but any windows, mirrors, lights, numberplates are always pristine, and they’re always well maintained PS: On one occasion some biker, whose leathers probably cost more than my (Other bike: an old Harley Ironhead) said to me “I don’t like Harleys, but I like yours!” “Why?” “Well, it’s covered in shit! You actually ride it in the rain!“ “Of course I do; it’s a workhorse not an ornament.“ But if polishing chrome floats your boat, then go for it! Just don’t expect me to lend a hand 😈 PS: thanks saddlebags! Subscribed!

@@danmanthe9335 Dan, I doubt if there are any new Pegasus available, and if there are, they’re a bit pricey. I’ve seen one or two, one being a fiver shy of £10,000! Not bad considering I got mine on the road for £5000 - The first motorised vehicle I have ever bought from new, and I wish I had bought three, or at least one more so I could’ve had a breeding pair 🤡, but you can still get the military ones though, and I think they’re still about £4600. Not bad considering they’re taxed, and under warrantee for two years. And no MOT for three years! This is my 22nd two wheeled motorised vehicle, and I’m not sure, but I think it’s the best so far, for so many reasons. I’m 73 years old and I’m no longer built for speed, and these Bullets are perfect. They’re all exactly the same except for livery and bits and pieces. I can’t recommend them highly enough. And a PS: saddlebags! Love your videos! And I really didn’t mean to diss chrome, it’s just not my thing. I suffer from a debilitating bone disease which would prevent me from doing too much polishing. It’s called bone idle!

Your bike sounds fantastic. I think I have just learnt to accept technology, as sad as that sounds. I only caught the pegs a couple of times, whilst finding it limits. I’m quite happy to potter around on it. As you say, 55 is perfect for it. I have a modern in line 4. Lovely bike. Smooth, powerful and reliable, but lacking character. @@Saddlebags73 I'm 62, and started riding at age 10 on an old Bultaco dirt bike. I just can't accept computer technology on a motorcycle. I have 6 bikes, all of them are carbureted, none of them have ABS, one of them is liquid cooled, a 1985 Kawasaki. But the Model T was liquid cooled. The RE Classic is indeed a wonderful bike. The last of it's kind.

I had a look to the Hitchcocks site. Just wondering, is that silencer you are using part No 91080B? By the way, I recently installed a Powertronic kit optimized for torque. Quite noticeable and I think well worth the investment.

@@Saddlebags73 Hi I think the furthest we have been two up is about 40 miles and my wife said it was comfortable and was quite happy on the back, just as comfy as my 2018 Triumph T120 Bonneville. I sold a Yamaha XT600E to buy the Classic, that was a great bike, I love the sound of a big singles, the Classic is slower than the XT BUT the classic brings a bigger smile to my face it has a sole and a character other bikes can't match.

Hi! Yes fuelling does require a little patience admittedly. In time I may go up to the 19 tooth sprocket and other bits and pieces. For the time being I’m happy with it. I have another (bigger more modern) bike but when going out for pleasure the Classic is increasingly becoming my ‘go to’ bike. And you’re not wrong about it being a crowd pleaser. Hey ER! First off, thank you! Much appreciated. Although I know someone who could do a better job 😉 Regarding servicing: I’ll probably do the majority myself, oil changes and simple stuff. Valve clearances etc, I’m undecided. Probably capable, probably can’t be bothered 🤣 Fuel wise: Initially I thought I’d just fill up every 150 miles, but soon lost track of that. Now, if I can’t remember how many miles since I filled it, old school cap off and rock the bike. If I can see it sloshing I should be good for 100 miles. Haven’t seen the warning light yet, perhaps because the sun is shining 🤣 Always surprised how little it takes though. Fuel cap though...I feel short changed. Cheers mate 🍻

Saddlebags 73 hi, no need for checking/adjusting valve clearances as they’ve got hydraulic tappets which are self adjusting :-) I’ve got 2 other bikes which don’t really get ridden since i got my classic 500, nice review 👍

@@TheSmartbear1 hah! I got a Suzuki Marauder VZ800 in which I invested 3 years of customising it and blue printing the engine - turning it into a stage 3 jobbie and since I got My RE 500 it has been sitting in the garage collecting dust :)

The gearbox is lovely now. It seemed to improve over time. I rarely ride this one at 70 but it does buzz when I do. Thankfully I haven’t had a flat yet. I run the pressures higher than the recommended. That’s way too low I think. I agree, throw the original plug away. NgK are far better. Many thanks 👍🏼🙂

Sadly, the ERN1E plate is fake, just for videos. I wish it was real, although a black plate is illegal unless your vehicle is of the correct age. 🤷🏻‍♂️😢

@@Saddlebags73 Yep, the end of the line for the 500 😭. I used to have an old RE 250 Clipper back in the late 60's which was essentially used as a field bike til I was old enough to get my licence. Great little bike. Fond memories of its simplicity as I learned how to work on bikes, subsequently honed to perfection when I acquired a 350 Triumph.....on which most things seemed to go wrong, including a bit of spontaneous combustion when stuck in Bristol's rush hour traffic one day ! The joys of the British bike industry's "golden" era. Stay safe bro 😎😷🇲🇾

Yes I’m of the same opinion regarding performance mods. I’ll probably do the booster plug, but not in search of better performance. It is quite hard to keep it shiny, but I did exaggerate in the video. It’s very satisfying when I’ve finished polishing too. Thanks again!

@@Saddlebags73 well a short review after a few rides. Vibration is hardly noticeable apart from the mirrors. Even getting up to the current maximum speed of 40mph you certainly feel the torque. Fit and finish IMHO is no worse or better than any other major manufacturer. The hand detailing on the tank is a nice human touch. The ride is ultra comfy. Like you, I have removed pillion seat this is a must. Hitchcock's recommend the booster plug even from new to richen the stupidly lean mixture. I like the look of the stock exhaust but prefer the sound of yours. May buy a cheap second hand original silencer and look into possibly coring out the baffle to improve sound. Summary it's an enthusiast bike. Back to basics but I dare anyone who rides one not to love the character and Heritage. Just bought a bike dryer to help speed up cleaning. Hope to run in by end of summer 👍

First off, many thanks! And yes you’re spot on. No fuel gauge is no big deal. My initial thought was to fill up every 150, but soon lost track, it doesn’t have a trip counter either. Now it’s just cap off, rock the bike, if I see it sloshing I’m good, if not I fill up. Just like the old days. No hardship, certainly wouldn’t stop me buying one. Out of interest, what do you ride?

Oh nice! Yea I don’t think the classic would fair too well in that case. I took mine out on a dry night in the winter. Covered it and didn’t see it for a few weeks. When I took the cover off I realised the roads must have been salted 🤦🏻‍♂️ There is still evidence on close inspection. I love the look of the Interceptor. If you treated it every year with that stuff I can’t remember the name of, it should be ok. One of my favourite looking bikes is the GT535, but they’re really small.

@@seavan5995 Alas, petcock taps with reserve went out with gravity-fed or low pressure vacum-powered diaphragm pumps to carburettors. I too, initially thought "How hard could it be?..." until I started thinking more about the the engineering demands behind EFI. . For a fuel injection nozzle to work properly, you need continuously consistently moderately pressurised fuel feed behind them. Which most easily comes from an electric fuel pump. And the most space-saving place to put 'em, is inside the fuel tank. These same pumps also derive their cooling and sort-of lubrication from the fuel itself, and they really DON'T like being run dry or with no fluid load on them too often or for too long before they crap out on you. Similarly with the injectors themselves, when they close after dispensing their computed charge, they rely on the pressurised fuel to act as a cushion on the needle-nozzle seat as they close. Without it, you run the risk of premature failure of the nozzle due to the seat getting hammered out. So you can see how trying to use manual mechanical petcocks for a 'reserve' provision is sooner or later going to be an expensive proposition for the owner of an EFI engine. Therefore, the 'best' solution is 'just' a fuel warning light. When it first comes on and stays on, that is the point where you're 'running on reserve'. . The next question naturally becomes 'Well, how much reserve have I got?" Does the Bullet Owner's Manual make any statement about remaining fuel in the tank when the light comes on? {Handes up/'fess up time; how many of you have actually sat down and RTFIM? ;-p }. In my situation, the owner's manual for my Honda CB500X says that the nominal reserve fuel quantity is 'approximately 2.8l'. With considerable emphasis on the word "approximately". If the Bullet only has a 13l tank, I speculate it might be divided something like 11litres main, and 2l 'reserve'. . But when the fuel light comes on, the immediate practical question becomes, "How far can I now go before I conk out completely?" A while after I bought 'Rhonda', I decided to conduct my own 'Reserve Range Anxiety Test'; Naturally I had a spare 5.5l jerry can of petrol in the topbox, knowing that'd easily get me to the next fuelling station. So, bimbling along at 80km/h as soon as 'Reserve' started flashing, I found when the engine finally gasped its last on all possible vapours, I had travelled 81.7km. . For Bulleteers, I speculate your best econo-speed might be 70km/h and I've been hearing fuel economy reports of 30+km/litre. Therefore I would speculate when your reserve fuel light comes on, you've got between 50 and 60km before your Royal Enfield turns into a T.R.I.U.M.P.H. {To Ride It U Must Push Hard } ;-D

Ah they do look nice don’t they. I’m actually quite surprised there are any 500’s left in the shops. I think demand went through the roof when they announced the end of production. I hope you’re right and they drop to a price you’re happy to pay. I’m still delighted with mine, although it’s tucked away until the weather improves and the salt has been washed from the roads. The Tiger will run rings around the Classic in all aspects, apart from character. The video started at Lifton and went on to Roadford reservoir, then back through Lifton to the Cornwall Devon border near Launceston. The walk around was by Venford reservoir on Dartmoor.

Royal Enfield has discontinued the production of Bullet500. Only handful of them are available now in the showrooms. U should check that out just in case.

Jeff Slade thank you! I realise the official ‘run in’ and actual ‘run in’ are two different things. I just plan to keep increasing revs and load gradually. You don’t recommend the hard run in procedure then?

@@Saddlebags73 Thrashing it in no, but you do have to put work into the process.. The line where it says, "avoid prolongs full throttle" can mean occasionally use full throttle.
