The 2019 tomato season has ended on our farm. In today's video I break down exactly how many pound of tomatoes I picked between the #1 and #2 tomatoes. In the 2019 tomato season I picked 9,272 lbs of the #1 and 2,655 lbs of the #2 tomatoes!!! We sell our tomatoes at different prices the #1 we sell at $3.50/lb in the month of june and the rest of the season we sell them at $3.00/lb. Our second tomatoes we sell at $2/lb the whole season! I also break down how much it cost is to get started in the season.
Drip tape.
1,000ft =$100
=$.10/ft
Plastic mulch
4000ft =$250
=$.06ft
Header line
Valves, caps
=$50
Seed. =$50
Tatal. =$450
We get the high tunnel through the NRCS high tunnel EQUIP grant that they give out. This gives the opportunity for small farmers to extend their season a month earlier in the Spring and a month later in the fall. This has been a huge help for us on our farm because we get a high tunnel with in $9000 reimbursement!
The total pounds of tomatoes I picked this year out of the tunnel was right about 12,000 lbs. With an average of $3 a pound we were able to make $36000 out of our high tunnel this year. This is a very impressive yield but I am looking forward to next year of having a better year!!
If you have any questions let me know!

I like what you say about free money from the government, actually it’s welfare for farmers in the form of subsidies , and a lot of surplus crops end up in the food stamp programs that benefit all Americans, I appreciate all your hard work, I still think California is in your future , thanks

The funny thing is, before the program you could buy a 100 foot high tunnel for less than $3,000. After program, due to supply and demand, a 100 foot tunnel is about $9,000

Thank you for helping me start my little farm with your videos! I'm currently looking for land. Very interesting about the program for high tunnels... I'm looking into getting one as soon as I get into my property.

How do you regulate temp with the wood stove(propane tank)--high tunnel set up? Never thought of that to heat a high tunnel... genius! Great vid as always!

Enjoyed the level of information you have provided. Two questions: Can you grow and harvest tomatoes over the winter in the high tunnels using propane or wood heat to make a micro-climate? Next questions, do you manufacture your own boxes or purchase somewhere? Thanks,

Your doing what I'm working towards now. I have a 18x50 aquponics greenhouse now I'm building my 26x50 high tunnel for cucumbers and tomatoes! Btw question have you ever considered doing vine tomato plants like big Dina? Once you start lowering and leaning your plants you should have less bending over to do. Just a thought but you are killing it congrats!

Hey farmer Dre I've watched alot of your videos and it has motivated me to expand my grow this year to sell as extra income, how big is your high tunnel to fit 400 plants? what is the spacing on your tomato plants and row spacing? Is that a determinate variety? I was only able to prep a 24'x60' garden this year on a new property, I am aiming to plant only 90 plants this year and hopefully close to 200 next year but after a 100+ degree day killing half of my seedlings I only have 45 tomato plants in the ground rite now and 60 new seedlings started I'm growing an indeterminate beefsteak tomato variety in rows of 15 plants spaced 4' apart but I'm looking at upgrading and financing a high tunnel next year if I can plan it out properly. please get back to me on the dimensions of your high tunnel and tomato spacing thank you very much.

$36k in 16 weeks. That’s not very good money considering all the time and labor you put in. Not knocking you. Just think you are way undervalued for your work. Although you probably making that off of multiple crops at a time. But you also had multiple people helping.. so back to my original statement. Lol
