Day 23 takes me from Silver City in the early hours to pass through Separ and Hachita before heading out on the long, hot, straight paved road to Antelope Wells and the Mexican border.
The inspiration of my Tour Divide was borne 30 years ago during my very first bike packing adventure in Madagascar. I have been spell bound by this unique Island ever since and two years ago took on the challenge of raising £15000 to build a school in the southern region of the Island to give young people a chance of a better life. Watched all videos - good on ya. For those of us who have fallen in love with the TD route and people along it, these vids let us relive all the races and places (3 tries so far for me), while we're dreaming of the next time. A belated congrats, and thanks!

@@stevenmoatt4736 If I painfully peel the onion open, I let injuries become excuses for quitting, and gave in to the dark side. Age hasn't held me back, as I did Koko claims without drama at 65, and managed 100+ mile days. Gotta go back!

@@stevenmoatt4736 I can only imagine. I'm sure that experience was life-altering in a number of ways. Glad your knee held up. You were very smart to attend to it as you did ... nice, elevation, give it rest I can't believe that you had a mechanical so close to the finish line! (broken spoke?) Did you have to perform much maintenance on your own, like cleaning your chain and drive train, replace any cables, any flats, etc.? Again, well done, mate. Quite a finish.

@@bruin4937 l was lucky not to have any serious mechanicals. Not one puncture! The damaged rear rim was all I had and that was caused by one too many hard descents. Very lucky.

Great ride Stephen. My friend and I did it in 2018 but unfortunately he had a mechanical in Lima so had to dnf. Planning the return in 2024. It was good to see the route from where stopped. I remember the huge mood swings and emotions. Terribly home sick at times. Most likely due to the tiredness and not enough food. Take care Dan & Carl

Thanks for taking the time to share these Steven! These are honestly my favorite series of TD videos. The unpolished and not over refined view of the day to day triumphs and struggles were very surprising and informative to me.

Hi yes my knees got swollen but there was no pain. I used compression socks from then on. The tyres were maxis ikon 2.2 and not one puncture. Used them this year on the Silkroadmountainrace and again no punctures. A lucky run I guess.

Congratulations Steven, thanks for sharing with the rest of us, hope you don't mind I have few questions: How did you get from Antelope Wells back to Hachita and then how did you get to the airport to fly you back to the UK, which airline did you take and which airport, how did you get a cardboard bike box and tape to pack your bike. I assume you started at 3am to avoid some of the heat, how hot was it around Hachita? Thank you in advance.

My wife organised the flight back when I got into new Mexico. flew from Phoenix to Calgary then home. Will come back with details this evening.

Hi I had a lot of support. It was very humbling and I tried to thank all for their generosity. I continue to pass on the goodwill to others in need as there is nothing as beautiful as true community spirit. I am happy to make you a bike bag if you are a keen bike packer too. All I need is a template or measurements.(I'll just need postal address). If I didn't thank you at the time I am sorry but am glad to have this opportunity to offer a big thankyou now. Happy cycling Steve
