@@deaa4834You’re right, that definitely explains the majority of the mpg difference. The extra unsprung mass probably isn’t helping its acceleration off the line either. Still… that eTorque packs a punch.

I just bought a 2023 Classic Warlock with the 3.6, it has the tow package which includes the 355 gears and several others useful options like limited slip and plenty of other features. I just had a BED-RUG installed with a tonneau cover. They took 9 grand off the 52 list so i bought it for about the same as a Tacoma or Ridgeline, glad i went with the RAM.

I just traded my 17' rebel with the hemi and 3.92 gears and got just over 10 mpg's towing my 6500 lb TT. Got a loaded 21' laramie with the etorque and 3.92 gears, and I am getting about 11.5-12 mpg towing. The biggest difference is city driving with the stop start. Plus pulling boats in and out you can feel the added 130 ft lb of torque the etorque gives ya. I loved my rebel but these 5th gens are awesome. This is my 6th ram since 2001 and I've driven them all over 150k and never have had any major issues. Knock on wood.

I really appreciate these towing comparisons with different RAM 1500 with different options. I don't have e-torque or 3.92's. I think I've been stressing my 2019 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Hemi and 3.21 gears and trying to stay in too high of a gear like 6th gear. But after watching others pull and see that they stay in a lower gears longer then I do, starting to think that maybe I'm trying to get into to high of a gear and maybe need to stay around 3,000 rpms in 5th be ok, and see what kind of mileage i get. I typically get 9.5 using up to 6th gear (2,200 rpm) and pulling a 7700lb RV trailer at 65 mph ish. Then again I have a Flowmaster to hear the hemi purr better but everything else is stock. 65,000 miles on mine. Love the video's and keep them coming. Long Live the high-mileage Ram! Mr. wheeler, good to see you sir. Nice video. Outstanding test method, and the fact that both trucks have 3:21 gears in the rear end. From what I’ve been told and or read 3:92s are better for towing if I remember correctly. But that’s why I love my 2020 Longhorn. Not only does it have a 3:92 rear end but also the E torque with start stop, which is real smooth at stop signs or sitting in city traffic lights. For a brief second before you started your intro, I thought maybe you just bought a new Limited. Take care my friend.

In my opinion, a 10 mile mpg test gives no meaningful information anyway. It’s so short that any small change from one test to the next can make big change in the results. 2nd, you mentioned having returned the one truck to stock tune, did that clear adaptive learning? Was it still going through the relearning process during your mpg test?

I wanted 392 rear gears like my 2008 Hemi Ram but after test driving the Hemi E-Torque Ram, I was very sold on it. It is like a Blower for torque, as it grabs your crankshaft & helps to spin your crankshaft up to a high RPM. I love it not for towing but for light to light fun! They should put them on Challengers too! I have a 2021 which has the identical actual physical gauges like yours Justin. The only option missing from my Limited is the "Technology Package", which comes with the heads up display & the rear view camera mirror.

I’m thinking you don’t really understand how e-torque works at all. It’s only there for the auto start/stop feature & doesn’t add anything to the hp/tq rating of the Hemi. It’s way for Stellantis to gain a couple points with the epa & buy some time until the next engines are ready.

@@vinniecorleone62 I don't believe you can "turn-off" e-torque. I've heard of plenty of trucks being disabled due to failures of components of the e-torque system. Now, you can disable auto start/stop. The Ram engineer I watched describing the e-torque system was specifically asked if it improved towing performance. He said the system was only for start/stop & it's only operational up to 1500 rpm. Have you ever noticed that Hemi truck HP/Tq ratings don't change with or w/o e-torque?

One major thing to consider... TIRES. The 2023 looks like it has OEM tires that are designed for fuel economy. Your truck has oversized, and much more aggressive tires. Those make a lot more difference than you would think.

@@MrJustinWheeler You wouldn't think that, but I have a 2020 Limited with the 3.92 rear. Going from the OEM to a set of Nitto Terra Grappler G2 knocked down about 2 MPG. And that's just daily driving and highway, not towing anything. This happened with my 2014 Laramie Ram as well. You'd be amazed what the auto industry will do to make the EPS ratings and future goals on a vehicle. Next time you're under your Ram, look at the coolant lines they have running to things like the differential and transmission. They aren't meant to keep them cool, they initial warm up the fluid to make it less viscus, and therefore, more fuel economical.

I have a Laramie with the 5.7 eTorque and a 3.92 rear. Love the truck, plenty of power. I hardly notice the start/stop as well. It re-starts the engine as you start to take your foot off the brake, and it only takes a split second to go. Unless you are drag racing someone off the line, it's really not a big deal.. And if you don't want it on, there's a button to turn it off.

I'm sure there's some difference with the etorque but I doubt all 3 mpg difference came from that alone. Interesting comparison though! @TheNewenglandboys
@TheNewenglandboys 7 ай бұрын
@@MrJustinWheeler So I’m thinking those ridge grapplers were costing you mileage compared to the stock tires on the 2023. And those old plugs likely aren’t as efficient as his new ones. My educated guess is that was the cost difference in gas mileage! It would be super interesting to see the comparison with same tires and a tune up. I’m not buying that etorque making a 3 mpg difference especially in that short trip. Now, IF you were waiting in a long McDonalds line at the drive thru a number of times, the etorque could make a difference by shutting off the engine between the stop and goes but it would take a lot of miles to actually generate any realistic difference. I Love the vids of course, but if you do a comparison it needs to be on an even keel. Swap tires with the other truck and swap the plugs with it to! Then do another comparison lol. Gotta admit, it would tell the tale!!

I really feel like RAM should have invested way more into the mild hybrid concept. Having a gas power plant directly connected to the drivetrain with an electric motor to help it on lower revs is the best of both worlds to me. The only thing better than that would be a true hybrid, meaning electric motors on each wheel or driveshaft to boost whatever torque the engine puts out over the shafts, instead of having an electric car with a gas engine purely for generating juice. Hybrids that you have to charge are just no good. Maybe in 20 years or so. But today, the only good hybrid is the kind that only needs refueling.

I did like the video, as I do all of yours, but there is no way that there is a 40 percent difference in MPG. That difference just highlights how inaccurate a small test is, while relying on a computer which uses the previous 500-ish miles of usage in its calculations. Also, E/T is only active from a dead stop, and only for the first half-to-one tire rotation, and then it's no longer active while towing or driving. Finally, E/T models actually have a lower GCWR by a few pounds, you can see this on the ram towing guides.

Miss me with that E Torque garbage! Just give us a 6.4 392 option.. For towing, just go with the 3.92 gear option

Oh, that larger engine or diesel are the way to go if you’re doing a lot of towing. Did you have some trouble with an e-torque? Thanks

You calling it a Dodge,it’s not a Dodge it’s just a Ram,even though they’re both produced by the same manufacturer,Dodge and Ram are separate brands of Stelantis/FCA

I am also a die hard Tesla fan, tesla owner. If I were you, I wouldn't buy the Tesla Cybertruck. You need a truck that does work day in and day out. Youll have nothing but issues with the Tesla. Trust me, just stick with ICE, specifically RAM
@MrJustinWheeler

I can’t disagree with that. I don’t expect the Cybertruck to be able to keep up with my Ram. BUT I am curious just how good it is. If/when I do get the cybertruck, I’ll keep my Ram also.
