Hi guys, great review as always. I am ordering my very own Arteon soon here in Europe, but I am still in doubt about which colour to choose. Do know if the car in the first part of the video is in Urano or Mangan grey? The one you are showing looks awesome, but it is hard to decipher in the VW website if the one you are showcasing is the Urano or the Mangan grey version... And yes I have been to several VW showrooms close to where I live, but no-one has an Arteon or Passat in Mangan or Urano grey on show.

I currently drive a '17 R (w/ manual) and really like the looks of the Arteon. However, there seems to be a couple things that I don't like about the R that they didn't address in the Arteon. - Turbo lag - For the price, too much hard plastic Why oh why VW does it take so long to get a product to NA? This car has been available in Germany for nearly a year now and we STILL have to wait until Christmas (probably January at the earliest) to see it in dealerships?!?! Disappointed that the DSG isn't making it to this side of the pond. For me, if it's not a stick then it needs to be a dual clutch (especially when you dumb it down for this market) or no sale. Sorry.

This is the first car that I may buy that isn’t pure function. Up until now I have driven nothing but Civics, due to the fact they are reasonably priced, functional, and damn reliable. And because I DETEST depreciating assets, I have owned five so far. But this may get me to change my old habits. Nice job VW!

I suspect that those who reject the Arteon because it has a four cylinder turbo engine haven't driven and lived with VW's version of that engine. Not only does it perform superbly in its stock form, it's easily tunable. Obviously, I haven't had an opportunity to drive the Arteon but having driven the CC and the Passat with earlier incarnations of the engine and the Golf R with a slightly more powerful version of the Arteon engine I'd have no worries that VW has provided a great engine for the Arteon. On the other hand, I'm slightly disappointed that VW has elected to substitute a tiptronic automatic for their DSG (at least in Canada and probably, I'm guessing in the US). Having owned a couple of VW's DSG vehicles, it's a favorite of mine. Minor issue, though, since the functionality of the tiptronic (if not the architecture) provides much the same manual control option. As far as competition is concerned, the Kia Stinger is obvious. But despite the similarities, I think the two vehicles appeal to somewhat different demographics. Just guessing, but I suspect the modal Stinger buyer is a mid-30 y/o male (or an older male who would like to be 35 again.) The Arteon, I think, will appeal to a slightly older buyer and to a larger proportion of women buyers than the Stinger. Comparing configurations and (estimated US) price, the Stinger has a much wider range. The base Stinger with the 2.0 turbo will be significantly less expensive with either real wheel or all wheel drive. But move up to various GT trims with the twin turbo V6 and I'm suspecting that MSRP will be nearly as much if not more than the Arteon, especially for the GT2. Both vehicles fit broadly into the Grand Touring category. The 2.0 turbo Stinger is certainly an adequate performer but I suspect the Arteon will be somewhat better, at least as a long distance cruiser. The RWD option of the Stinger (at least in the US) is an advantage (in price) but both vehicles offer AWD. I own both a Kia (Sorento) and a VW (GTI) so my brand loyalty is split but I suspect that the overall material quality of the Arteon will be maybe half a step better than the Stinger. For me, it would be a difficult choice, but I think I'd go with the Arteon. If the Genesis G70 were in the mix, though, I might go with that over either.

Yup, looks pretty. There is always some glib manufacturers, corporate-speak thrown in. Really, the last 50 years of driving I always wanted some headlamps? We used to go forth, with candles on holders. Really nice ....

I work at a VW dealer in Nova Scotia, and we got 4 Arteons as soon as they were available. BY the beginning of this year, we had sold only 1 of them. This car had such great potential, but it seemed to flop pretty hard in eastern Canada. In my personal opinion, I would have to blame the engine. Its a $50,000 plus car, and the only engine that is available isn't even as powerful as the Golf R's engine. The Altas V6 was just begging to be put in this car, and I think that would have made a world of difference. Another gripe I have with it is the interior. Yes, it has many cool features, (the massaging seats are amazing, I absolutely love them) but the plastic used on the door panels and elsewhere just feels slightly too cheap. You're spending 50K on a luxury car, it should at least feel that way inside. On the plus side, it was a smart decision to put the 4-motion system in as standard, and I think that the exterior is one of the best Volkswagen has ever produced. I'm not sure how the car was received in the rest of the country, but it seemed to do very poorly over here. We just sold our last one a few months ago after it had sat on the lot for over 4 years. To me, it just seems like too much money for not enough car.

Though most buyers of this car wouldn't add it, a stage 1 tune should bring the engine up to R specs.

The only thing I can see messing with the Arteon is the Stinger. It is RWD, has a V6, and it does offer much better warranty and tbh Kia has been killing it recently with reliability and their overall lineup

So...A A5 sportsback? BTW...A "loaded up" is just a way to over price a car and makes the biggest profit for them so...Personally, I'd rather have a wagon even if it sounds unpopular. Plus, everywhere BUT the states you can get a diesel option!

So, it's basically an A7, but with leather that's less soft by a barely perceptible degree, a bit less power, and a less nice badge. However, in my opinion it's the looker of the two, with the A7 having been far prettier for the Arteon's first year, until Audi decided to ruin the rear end proportions and make the angle of the grille weird for 2018. Especially considering that the Audi badge doesn't mean all that much in North America compared to what it means in Europe and East Asia, being a premium brand alongside Infiniti, Buick, or maybe Mazda aside from the A8/Q7 halo, why would I get an A7 over this? The A7 has a second screen (or third, if you count the digital gauges), but that screen is used for exactly the controls you'd want to still be physical buttons, like the tuner and volume knobs and the climate control, which the Arteon still has as physical controls since it only has one screen. I think VW's competing with themselves here, and mistakenly putting the better car in the lower margin brand, like they did with the Phaeton and Touareg.

I hate sunroofs. They almost always lower your headroom due the mechanism and track. Not a family car. The new VW CROSSTOUR. "No reason to buy an SUV" except to get the headroom back that we are going to lose from making the sunroof standard. Then they leak air and drip water and get noisy as they age. If I wanted that I would drive my convertible. I will be sticking to my old reliable Town Car lol. I bet the fuel mileage is similar since they did not mention it.

There's a resistance to dual clutches because they fail so often and cost a brick to replace. Google "vw dual mass flywheel failure"

It need a better engine like a supercharged or turbocharged VR6. That turbo 4 isnt enough for a car that big and heavy

No DSG will turn me away from this car. The 8 spd gearbox is a basic equipment not matching what you get in a stinger

It's a beautiful car. I hope they sell a version in the USA without all the bells and whistles at a lower price. All that junk will break down over time just like your home computer. The repair bills will be through the roof.

The liftback is nothing new, GM had it back in the 1970s on the Pontiac Venturas, but lots of problems with water problems. Hopefully VW has solved these problems.
