Arson Trial was held on September 14, 2021. Misty Dunbar was convicted on 13 Counts for Arsonist and Homicide Video used in the case.
On Tuesday, August 13, 2019 just after 6 AM a working fire was reported on N. Walnut St. in Mount Carmel. As units started to call responding county advised they had multiple calls on the fire. Shortly after EMS advised county that they could see it from their station. Chief two call responding and immediately asked for a second alarm. Engine two was assigned the Charlie side of the structure while truck two and engine three were assigned side alpha. Engine three deployed a blitz line to knock the bulk of the exterior fire while truck two ladder the roof. Multiple units were put on standby to cover the area.
Mount Carmel police Department along with the state fire marshal James Nizinski determined the fire to be arson and that the fire started outside on a side porch after conducting an investigation and reviewing nearby security video.
Within 24 hours Misty Lynn Dunbar and Michelle Renee Rhoads were taken into custody on 13 charges including arson and attempted murder.
Both homes damaged are considered a total loss based on a statement by local fire chief Jack Williams.
Mount Carmel fire department also handled one minor rekindle of this fire and had one minor injury reported during the fire..

Clover Hose NEEDS to do a better job of TRAINING their pump operators!!! If you can't pump it, you shouldn't drive it!!
@1961fireguy
@1961fireguy 4 жыл бұрын
Over 2 minutes to get water out of the pumper is not acceptable. I think some training is needed. Volunteer or career firefighter makes no difference, learn your equipment and improve your deployment of water on arrival. Water should be applied within one minute no matter what the circumstances. It is an emergency act like it.

I think it's more than just a training issue. From watching the operator look around then put on his glasses after they're yelling "Yellow speedlay!", it's clear that it's also a work ethic and performance expectation issue, too. From what I've been able to gather the last I checked, this seems to be more of an issue in Pennsylvania than most states, due to a lack of state mandated training and oversight. The state does offer training, but mostly leaves the decision on training and procedures to the fire department, itself. It's possible that things could be changing. But, at least then, they could just be like, "So, you want to be a fireman?" "Yep." "Ok, here's your helmet, turnout gear, and pager. Congratulations, you're now a fireman! See you at the next call."

Difficult video to watch from a firefighting perspective. Googled Mount Carmel PA and found that the Green Engine 3 represents "Clover Hose Company." They are volunteer firefighters. I'm not familiar with this area, but it appears that there are several departments on this fire scene. Many/most are probably volunteer. I don't want to denigrate volunteer fire departments here because the volunteer firefighter has served our nation for centuries, but it's evident that there is a real lack of training from the performance on this fire.

I still can’t understand how towns ever allowed wood frame houses to be built so close together. Fire threat has existed for centuries so the fact that these are older homes is irrelevant. The lot size to build a home should require that at least 25 feet clearance be on each side of a dwelling, especially a wood frame dwelling.

1, These houses are over 100 years old. So in fairness, if this was not in a "working class" town, they'd likely have been removed decades ago. 2, Not everyone has the luxury of acreage. Theses look like old "company houses" (built by coal companies to house miners) Mt. Carmel,PA is in "coal country". The idea was to put as many houses as possible on a plot of ground. These ain't Suburban McMansions with lush grounds ffs.

@ritirons2726
@ritirons2726 3 жыл бұрын
You have to understand that there are two types of people that comment on these firefighting videos: Those that fight fires on a daily basis, both career and volunteers. They are the ones that simply watch the video and move along or offer constructive criticism, and, at times, yes maybe even trash talk, but in a respectful manner. Then you have those that troll fire videos looking to pick apart every possible thing that in THEIR OPINION was completely wrong. They are far more prevalent. Those people like to bash their supposed “brothers” saying they need more training, they have no work effort, they’re too slow, this and that, everything they can possibly find to criticize another department(s) and/or member(s) is fair game. There are a few on here that you will see in every comment section making the same comment(s) on every video they watch. Now I can’t lie, I do have to agree at times with the aptly named “armchair chiefs” because those are all fire service realities. I’ve sat and scratched my head plenty of times wondering what the F@&k are they doing? I also won’t lie, and will admit I have left a not so nice comment here and there also. But as you noticed, at times it gets outright disrespectful to people that have never met and never will, and have never worked together and never will. Even firefighters from other countries get in on the attack. So the brotherhood does exist between the firefighters that truly respect each other and are “in it” for the right reasons. For the rest it looks good on t-shirts and stickers and when it makes them sound good around other firefighters, but behind closed doors or keyboards they only have themselves in mind. And in reality, their departments are more likely not any better than the ones they trash here in these videos. These comment sections are the perfect place for people to profess their fire service expertise and opinions with out the worries of anyone ever finding out who they really are or their true fire service experience.

One thing I can never EVER understand after watching any videos like this, WHY does the US design fire trucks that don't carry water? In my country it is mandatory for ALL fire brigade trucks to carry water as well as crew
@hihfty
@hihfty 4 жыл бұрын
The green truck does carry water. The driver just had no idea how to pump which is a story in itself. In the US the only trucks that may or may not carry water are ladder trucks. Its very common for departments to have a " quint" which has a pump and a small tank. Generally smaller departments will have a quint since the amount of resources are limited and they need that functionality. In metro areas you will be hard pressed to find a " quint" and the vast majority are strictly ladder trucks.
@tomevans5458
@tomevans5458 4 жыл бұрын
Steve, I suspect that the green fire engine #3 carries anywhere from 500-750 gallons of water.
@charlesmallo
@charlesmallo 4 жыл бұрын
In Holland every truck carries up to 2,500 litres of water and has 2 what we call high pressure lines directly connected to the pump to get the wet stuff on the red stuff within a minute.This gives the rest of the crew about 15 minutes to set up the external water supply or for a tanker to arrive on the scene. Maybe it's time for US Fire Departments to invest in the more useful smaller European trucks that can handle everything that's thrown at them.
@drob449
@drob449 4 жыл бұрын
In Holland I’m willing to bet you also have to connect your hoses on arrival like most other European trucks. The only trucks that don’t carry water are specialized apparatus that mainly perform duties OTHER THAN fire suppression.
@charlesmallo
@charlesmallo 4 жыл бұрын
The standard truck in Holland and other European countries have 2 pre-connected so called high pressure lines. So no faffing around, real out the lines, fire up the pump and within a minute or so there's wet stuff on the red stuff. In the mean time the rest of the crew sets up the external water supply. Trucks equipped with the heavier rescue equipment (cutters, spreaders) also carry water. Areal platforms and ladders are fed through the pump of a truck.

In the UK the first thing we do is check to see if anybody is in the building, whilst this is going on other members would be running out hose to the hydrant and towards the fire. UK trucks have high pressure hoses (40 Bar) crews would attack the fire within 30-40 seconds on arrival plus they carry over a 1000 gallons. This is where we differ, crews will have two members on the truck nominated at the beginning of the shift on who is wearing SCBA, the other members will sought out the hose and attack the fire until the guys wearing BA are ready to go in to either fight the fire or search the premises. This saves a lot of time, the quicker you can get water on fire the less damage the fire is causing, it also gives the OIC more time to formulate a plan on tackling the fire, he doesn't have to worry about whose doing what. BA is big thing in the UK, you don't put on a set and wander into the job, its very controlled we know at any time how many Ff are inside the premises, the point is if everyone is putting on BA sets, no one is thinking about the hydrant, ladders and anything else that needs to be done, everyone wants to go in fight the fire no different to an RTA, everybody wants to operate the tools.

Well Andy, all the larger municipalities are full time departments. I don’t know if the numbers balance out as I’m sure there are more volunteer depts. Generally speaking, I would say they are not as highly trained but that really depends on the community, the leadership and so forth. I know every one in my department was a Paramedic and had a college degree of some kind. Most volunteer departments have people who have to work at another job, so recruiting becomes a problem.

1. You lay in the hydrant line and pull the engine with 750 gallons of water in front of the structure. 2. The driver activates the pump. 3. One FFer grabs a pole and Booster line and heads to the fire room windows. 4. They break out the windows and extinguish the fire LONG before an entry team can get dressed and get the front door open. 5. By that time, the hydrant line is flowing and other fire fighters should be venting windows. 6. Then the entry team, led by a nozzleman, go inside to mop up and search for PROTECTED victims. That is Real Fire Fighting. You Protect Everyone First because you can!

Really? Well, it sounds to me like you need to get off your butt, and go show them how it's done! I was chief of a career department before I took my retirement and then got hired part time by a community to lead THEIR volunteer fire department. My volunteers were pretty damn good before I even showed up, and it's been a DREAM job for me since I took the helm. The lowest performers among my firefighters, are pretty good... and the average to higher performing members are just THAT much better. And they do the job, asking only that they're given good equipment to do the job with, and that if they get hurt or worse doing it, that they and their families will be looked after. It's an HONOR to have been given the privilege to lead the men and women I lead. I've met volunteers and paid personnel all across the country... If you think you can do better... shut up and join up and show us. Otherwise... hush and leave the thinking to people who actually have the initiative to put their money where their mouth is.
