Hey Jeff! Great video! I'm in North Carolina too! I'm in Brevard, which is near Asheville. My family currently owns a 2015 Highlander and we love it! We are currently looking to buy a new Highlander and I think we're going to go with a 2019. I like the updates to the 2020, but there's not really any updates that make the 2020 that much more attractive for us. And I like the appearance of the 2019 a lot better. It looks similar to the 2015 we have now, which we have absolutely loved.

Side by side I think the older model has a better profile. Looks more like an SUV whereas the newer model looks like it's trying too much with the rising beltline (which means less rear visibility for rear )

Watching from Ontario, Canada!! I love the rims on the 2019 over the 2020. Both are nice!! Only thing I really want on the 2020+ is the rear hatch window can open like the 2019 model. I recently ordered a 2021 Highlander Platinum trim level.

Well we picked up our new 2019 last night and we are very happy, nice open cockpit, not crowded like the 2020 with those tablet type screens, already used the rear window to put some bags in the back! Overall good price great financing deal!

I sell these for a living and almost think that Toyota could have made the 2020 first and then graduated to the 2019 style and still got some more sales. The 19 is sportier.....by far. And I'll say Toyota has made the 2020 to make it look like the more conservative model they released in 2015. Less chrome. Etc.. ...just wait. In 2022 the Highlander will get the more aggressive looks of the 2019. Longer grill and better wheels.....bet my life on it.

We just bought a 2019 xle, it’s my wife’s she don’t care for tech. good deal and interest was .9% overall saved about 6000$ in cost. The cockpit of the 2020 is like the rav4 we like the more open view of the 2019

The 2019 looks more aggressive and sexier but sadly the 2019 interior make it look like a vehicle from the early 2010s. The 2020 got that boring front like the 2014 to 2016 Highlanders, they should have gave it a more aggressive front similar to the new Rev4. At least the 2020 received major Interior updates it really needed it! and finally!!!! they added CarPlay! and Android Auto!

Montreal Quebec 🇨🇦. Love the details in your videos, your enthusiasm and humour. Love the 2019 front grill but upgrade tech 2020 and extra 2.5" length. Sad 2019 has not AppleCarPlay & AndroidAuto. Sorry my friend but your audio is pretty awful cause no wind screen on mic and to far. Need to get up into that mic. Get the Rode Wireless Go with wind screen!! Last constructive advice record on a cloudy ⛅️ day to give your camera a chance with lighting! Thanks

Love your videos Jeff and many greetings from Finland! I am thinking of buying a Highlander Hybrid as the family keeps getting bigger. For me, the 2020 exterior design looks pretty (the tail reminds me of Land Rover Freelander and the front certainly has design cues from Lexus RX). The 2019 looks great and much more masculine than the bland 2020. The interior designs of both are excellent and I like that they have added that leather to the dashboard of 2020. The seats on the Limited and Platinum trims seem so beautiful. The digital watch (Casio?) from the 80s is a funny touch. I think it´s a pity the driver´s left arm rest seems a bit lacking (not supportive).

Great video, I already have a 2019 Highlander SE, it is just an excellent SUV, the most efficient and cost effective Toyota with 3 rows (4Runner, Sequoia and Land Cruiser). The only thing I miss from the 2020 is the Apple car play and Android Auto.

Thanks Jeff (aka Toyota Fanboy). Looks are a subjective, but if you look under the surface, the 2020 has made some good improvements and the new platform makes for a better ride and safer vehicle - LED lights are a big deal, just one of the pluses on the 2020. The 2020 looks more refined (Lexus like). I test drove the 2020 XLE - smooth, nice tech and was very comfortable. Love the "blueprint color" - wish they would have added power folding mirrors on the higher trim. I'm waiting for the hybrid model which I will consider purchasing in the fall. Honestly, I won't miss the razor blade grill on the 2019. As soon as the hybrid hits the scene, please do a detailed video (I'm sure you will - LOL).

Dale City, Virginia. The older model looks higher end but the newer model have better tech. The heated/ventilated seats now use push button LEDs instead of the ancient wheel. Just purchased a 2019 Platinum due to the savings but the new one is nice.

Great review, thanks for the info. I only have one gripe about the 2020. The roof slopes down minimizing head room on the 3rd row of the 2020. My kids grow too fast for a small third row. No perfect SUV in this segment. Everything is a compromise.

Just bought a 2019, I liked the front end. It displays digital speed when you use cruise control. Rear glass door handy for small things not hockey bags (what are you thinking?!) I like the new tech pkg and faster and higher opening rear tailgate. From Toronto

A late comment on the comparison. First Thank You as I am actually comparing a 2018 to 2021. Similar and relevant to my case. Did they get rid of the windshield glare from the dipped hood area along the windshield? The reflection is distractive in my 2018. I also like the grill of the 2019 much better. You brought up good points on the console and several other items of the interior. Thanks Out of Paducah, Ky.

Based on the comments, I can tell who's the rookie buyer and who's the experienced buyer. Rookie buyers decide a car is good based on front end looks. Experienced buyers decide a car is good based on value. You can't tell me dollar for dollar the 2019 model provides a better value...

Sugar City, Idaho. The biggest reason, ans maybe the only reason I would pick the 2020 over the 2019 is the android auto. Having that connectability really helps with the futurproofing.

I bought the 2019 Toyota Highlander on April 1st 2022, had it 6 whole days before a guy driving fast in a curve lost control and hit my hubby and I head on, it was totaled :(, . I want another highlander but trying to decide if I want the ‘19 again or go for a ‘21 or ‘22 ????. I love the aggressive look of the ‘19 tho.

I have 2019 Xle. It's been 1 and half year that I have my 2019 and love better then 2020. The only think about 2019 no CarPlay. Ottawa Canada Toyota Gatineau Quebec Canada Kongo for life and Afrika for life.

I like the last gen better and also in the used market it's what I could afford anyways. But I do believe the ae trim for last gen was the only trim that offered true led headlights, tailights, and fog lights. No other trim higher or lowere offered that oddly enough and the se model was more loaded than the xle of its generation too. Ps: o would only look for se awd models for they also look much sexier since they black out the chrome and have minor body tweaks that add to its aggressive look
