Honda CT125 or now known fondly as the 2021Trail 125 in the USA . Here is my big 1500 klm ride report or 1,000 miles of a full 3 month ownership review of this great little classic workhorse.
This bike has just been released in the USA as the Honda Trail 125 in the past few weeks but know elsewhere like in Australia as the Honda Hunter or the Honda hunter cub
it's a great little 8 HP go anywhere machine which i have tried in all types of country counditions.

It’s a lovely and useful little bike for sure no question, but I do reckon that the “few” additions that you have made (e.g. gearing, shocks, seat, bars etc) will make a pretty substantial difference over stock. So, thanks for the informative review and well done on your choice of upgrades. Keep it up.

I like the upgrades and the riding videos you do .Great job! I watched a video where a guy turned his handle bars holders around and it moved his bars forward. I did mine and it is definitely more roomy and comfortable. I also noticed while I was waxing the bike that the 10mm bolt and scrub extension on bottom of the foot pegs can be removed and then you have cleated pegs, plus around 1/2 inch lower peg height. It really felt better for me because of my prosthetic leg. It don't have to bend as much. Feels more roomy too. What is the best sprocket setup you have decided on?
@ridewithwarro
@ridewithwarro 3 жыл бұрын
i have no trouble with the riding position but thats a good tip regardless. at the moment and after todays ride or should i say this mornings 25klm ride i still am satisfied with the 13t front/41t rear sprocket combo BUT that switch might not be for every-one. around that 75 kph GPS or say 50 mpg on a normal speedo reado out its sitting on around 7000 revs but what i do like about that is the engine is lively and more exciting to ride and the bike is far more rewarding on dirt or on hilly type winding roads. if you are on good flat out open country or in town running -no need for it or just try 13t front on stock sprocket

Nice reveiw mate, what size and brand of tyres did you put on and how do they compare to stock tyres?
@ridewithwarro
@ridewithwarro 3 жыл бұрын
just picked the tyres up from ebay under postie bike. but after numerous runs i would not recommend the 3.0 tyre size as it actually slowed the bike down. worked well on the rear only for traction but far too big for both wheels on a 8hp bike i pickedup more performac when i dropped to a 13t front sprocket and then lost it immediately with the duel wheel tyre change

@@timtelford1189 i put 3.00 front and back and thatslowed it down. then i pulled the 3.0 off the front and went back to the stock tyres and it was again pretty quick with 13t sprocket. best bet would be smaller size as i didn't expect it to slow down with the big tyre mod but thinking it over- too much rubber to move along on 8 hp

Warro, you had the Honda XR190 a while back. Atm, it's $1800 cheaper, bigger wheels, same weight (with accessories fitted to CT125), presumably better suspension; plus all the racks and stuff come as standard. CT125 has ABS and auto clutch of course which XR190 does not. What are your thoughts comparing the two? Any reason you didn't keep the XR190 for longer? I'm about same height / weight as you. Thanks!
@ridewithwarro
@ridewithwarro 3 жыл бұрын
i think the xr190 is as good and probably better value $$$ wise too BUT when you buy the CT125 you are really buying a trip back in time for most buying or in my case anyway. so thats where i think it really differs from other bikes as it is steep in history. so nothing wrong with the 190 and its a great little bike and is very well priced and will do everything the CT will do and probably more BUT AGAIN its not the same sitting on it. now say that idea of history side doesn't worry you-in that case you'll be happy with the 190. after-all at the end of the day they are both honda bikes so you won't be jumping ship...lol

@@ridewithwarro Thanks Warro. Double the power (XR = 16hp) will help me on the sealed roads getting to the dirty bits too! Only thing that bothers me (both bikes) is that centrifugal oil spinner instead of a proper paper oil filter. Looking forward to your vid on servicing one of those... I see (on XR) it's not due until 12000km. Interesting!

What is limiting top speed? Engine RPM? I think they're topping around 54-55MPH. I'd like to be able to hit 60MPH reliably if possible, should I pick up a CT125. They're as rare as hen's teeth in the US right now.
@ridewithwarro
@ridewithwarro 2 жыл бұрын
what you have to look at 60 mph is out of the question and as soon as the bike see a hill -it faints. so what to do? buy the bike and do a run-in and then fit a 13T front sprocket. it will give it far more get up and go-check my history heaps of clips on it- and hold 50 mph gps easy sure you'll se 60 mph on the speedo stock-did a clip on that too but the speedo is out by a good 5 mph this bike was sold months ago and i bought 2 or 3 new bikes. saying that i missed the fun i had on this ct125 so went out and bought this one kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n8B9lbmb0ZauiWw.html

Riding 2 up advice: Going up a sharp incline, front wheel may lift , bike does back flip, rider and passenger falls backward, not good situation. Riding two up on a two-rut trail, front wheel goes over center and into other rut in a curve, bike, rider, and passenger go down suddenly. Happened to me and passenger years ago on my first CT-90. Make sure untrained riders know how to operate throttle, semi-automatic shift and brakes.
