The 2020 Honda Rebel 500 features some important updates: full LED lights, revised suspension, slippery clutch, gear indicator on the dash. But how much have the things change in the day-by-day riding. This is what we're looking to find out in the 2020 Honda Rebel 500 Review.

I'm 160cm and have been riding for 10 years now. This bike isn't just for beginners, it's also for people who struggle to find a bike they can comfortably reach the ground with and those of us who want to ride a simple, lightweight bike that isn't a pain to commute with.

i have honda nc700 . great bike but i am bored of it... i am 56 years old, have had every bike over the years.. and now im looking for a general pleasure bike i dont even ride more than 100 miles anymore.... this bike is one of the most comfortable i have ever sat on..... when you get older and have lost a few friends along the way... you realise its not all about speed.... its about the journey... i ride backroads now and country lanes... this is looking like a piece of me soon

Well, I'll tell ya, 5 years ago, I laughed at the Rebel 250 that my father-in-law had. Of course, I was riding a Honda VTX 1800. But, now I live in the Philippines and the options are either this, the $40,000 Gold Wing, or a 125cc scooter (which I've been riding for 4 years). I like the new look, and I can't wait to get back on a real bike. Uncomfortable? Hard-to-read dash? Terrible brakes? I don't even care. Just make me a man again and get me off of the little Honda Click 125 scooter and on to a real motor cycle!

You're the only one who is truthful mentioning the harsh rear suspension. That will put off new riders from doing any distance reducing the bike to an around the town toy.
@rayg9069
@rayg9069 4 жыл бұрын
The front suspension of the 2020 is still woeful as well, nearly 50% travel is taken up just with sag, the weight of the bike only. Add a 90kg rider (half the rated load weight) and my bike is 1.5cm from the bottom stops at the front and 1cm from stops on the rear. Until I can get new linear CBR500 springs in the front and new rear shocks I have found letting the tyres down around 10% helps a lot, that also stops a lot of the twitchyness in the handling. I am really surprised that Honda are putting a bike on sale that seems to have so much potential but isn't finished yet.

For anyone thinking about getting the rebel, I am 5'10 and can ride this bike very comfortably with no problems. I know people around 6'2 who also find this bike very comfortable with the mid range controls and not too much bent legs. If you are shorter than this, you will have absolutely no problems.

Some good criticisms. I'm still very curious about this bike, though. Would have been nice to get some clearer comparisons between the old and new, as well as comparisons with class competitors like the Iron 883, Indian Scout 60, etc. Also info on what aftermarket parts might be available to fix your complaints (ie: seat).

About the extended clutch case of the rebel: the engine housing (the right cylinder) on the right side is extended too. It sticks out about 3-4 cm in difference to the left cylinder. I asked honda, why this is. They argumented, on the right side of the engine they have installed all the valve camshafts in there. If one looks, you can see the extra housing of it. So, not the cylinders are out of the middle, but the housing of the valve camshafts. Funny conception! I had two twin cylinder bikes before ( a kawasaki and the old honda rebel 450) and there, the engines where exactly in the middle of the frame.

@packgrog
@packgrog 4 жыл бұрын
I have an older 883. It's pretty heavy, and it took a fair bit of work to make it more tolerable. That said, I'm still incredibly curious about the new Rebels. I rarely go over 50mph as it is, and the smoother power delivery of the Rebel has a certain appeal in comparison to the constant shaking of the Harley. My mods got rid of most of the obnoxious shaking, but that was added cost and effort. The smaller form factor of the Rebel also just seems very appealing to me.

@ivanvalladares1551 4 жыл бұрын
The 2019 Rebel 500 was my very first bike but recently upgraded to a 2020 Iron 1200. The Rebel is a perfect bike for zipping around town but if you’re doing highway commute everyday, you need a bigger engine. To much stress on the Rebel engine trying to cruise at 80mph for 30 minutes or more.
@poqjaq
@poqjaq 3 жыл бұрын
@@ivanvalladares1551 i don't know where you are but here in Malaysia, lots of Malaysian use only 135cc - 250cc motorcycle to commute daily bout 100 -200km to work. Not everyone is afford to live in the of Kuala Lumpur because the cost of living is too high. We got no problem with under 250cc bikes. If we use 500cc and above, I think we can travel all over the globe brother 😅
@ivanvalladares1551
@ivanvalladares1551 3 жыл бұрын
@@poqjaq that’s an interesting insight on the commute in Malaysia. Could it possibly be related to speed limits? I’m in Los Angeles and when there is no traffic, people drive at 130kmh or more. So maybe bikes have bigger engines here to keep up with with the general speed of traffic. What do you think?
@paulb1383

Yes, this is close to it, but far as looks go...NOTHING compares to a Iron 883! 😉 Don't get me wrong, this is a nice looking bike, and I'd probably buy this before a 883 for other reasons... But the IRON, is in a class of it's own! 💯
