I've had my '18 Kona SEL for two full years and still love it just as much as day one! I could've gotten just about any vehicle under $40k but the Kona's style, taunt build quality, comfort, and handling sold me! 27K miles and no rattles, wind noise, or glitches...I'm extremely satisfied and average 36-38 mpg...

@GermanCarsRule Yes, mine is AWD...I don't have to contend with snow here, but it seems to offer better traction in heavy rain and also, although I've not yet been in the situation, my nature photography might find me on soft sand or muddy forest roads where the AWD might make the difference! The AWD version also has the better rear suspension set up! Congrats on getting yours, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine!

I just purchased a Kona SEL for several reasons. The price was right thanks to dealer discounts and rebates. The 2.0L is mated to a 6-speed automatic. Most of the competition have CVTs. Also, Consumer Reports says that used Konas are reported to be very reliable, so logically, there's a good chance that the newer ones should be as well. That's what I'm hoping for, anyway.

I just got a 2019 base model last month and coming from a 2012 Veloster this car is a dream 😅 I'm a freelance videographer so it's a perfect car to get to and from gigs, carrying all my gear, going through any condition with that AWD, and I'm actually getting way better fuel economy than advertised. It usually stays between 35-38 mpg

Paid 23k for a limited last week to replace the 2020 that got totaled by a distracted driver. It's going to be my wife's car but I do 80% of all driving. It's a great car. This model leaves Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Mazda in the dust on acceleration. Also on car and powertrain warranty. There are incentives to lower sticker and cost. There is enough space for 4 people and everyday hauling. And there is no grenade, takata airbag, on it. Value for money is there, plus handling and acceleration. I don't regret getting it. 👍😇

the hyundai kona is a car that i have on my list of cars. i chose the kona because i love the overall shape of the car and how small and compact it is; also because i feel like i wouldn’t have to move the seat up just to reach the pedals. honestly, i would get the hyundai kuna, because i really don’t need all the space, when it’s just me in the car.
@RISCGames
@RISCGames 3 жыл бұрын
It's not fair to compare the Subaru Impreza for price against the Kona, it's a completely different class vehicle. Also, I don't think most people who complain about the Kona "get" the Kona and of course as a result, wouldn't get one. Personally, I don't see the Kona as a 6 foot 4 friend bearing ninja hauler as much as it's a Mom, Dad and one or two younger kids/children/teens or 1 and a small dog type of family road tripping road warrior. You mentioned the durability and ruggedness of the Jeep but if you look back at who's going to be in the Kona and the abuse it'll be going through, Hyundai made the right choice. They give you comfort and pamper you where it's most needed, a huge overlook from everyone. From the heated seats to the comfortable ride experience thanks to the suspension setup and ultimately in the end, some of the more advanced safety features people in the 90s could have only dreamed of, it's incredibly well balanced. Hell, even a $50k Tesla doesn't offer wireless phone charging. In the end you get the best of all the worlds for a knockout price but it appears many people want a $50k vehicle for a $20k off price tag then complain that the Kona is too expensive but once compared for features/value to others, the competition generally always falls short.

The Kona Limited with 1.6L Turbo engine and AWD is perfect for me. I don’t have small kids, so I’m actually looking for a shorter & smaller car, as it’s easier to parallel park in cities. However, I still want an SUV for flexible cabin space and AWD for bad weather and occasional dirt road trips. The turbo engine seals the deal because I want a fun and zippy car.

@@givenchymamajama3859 the dual clutch transmission is quick but jerky in sport mode, particularly in low gears. Having purchased a Kona Ultimate AWD in April I have to say I do not agree with the conclusion here. I think $30k is a steal for everything you get. Yup, it is small. Yup, it has some hard interior plastics. However, you get what you pay for and the 1.6 turbo drivetrain and standard features cannot be beat. I drive it around like its a GTI on backroads. Throw in the phenomenal warranty and it's a tremendous value. Great job Hyundai.
@sniggitty
@sniggitty 3 жыл бұрын
Time will cause all the Ultimate extras to fail and cost $$$$. 30K for a high end Kona is absurd when you can get a much better Honda/Toyota. This is the car you buy with SEL plus trim and run it out to 100K or beyond. Other turbo, DCT, gDI engines will have lots of problems as it ages. Ask how much a walnut shell cleaning to get carbon off the valves is? Lots of DCT failures, reprograms, need to drive it differently than a torque converter, many incidences of people stepping on gas and engine revs and car doesn't move. even under generous warranty, they are replacing DCT frequently, as repair is impractical. The options in the higher trim levels are more likely to cause failures.

@@sassouusasoo3607 many reviews make the kona look and feel big. but honestly its like the size of a corolla. yes more space for the front, but very little space in the trunk. A sedan trunk is deeper and more spacious! like he said "its a $30,000 car when it feels like a $17,000 car" a lot of the features in the kona are still outdated in my opinion. a 2016 corolla has better features than the kona. my key has a "trunk hold" button (when you hold the button the trunk door opens by itself) and for the price i paid, the button should work for all trims. But it doesnt. So my key has a useless button on it. I dont regret it. but just wish i did more research and was aware of my other options. Go with a bigger car if youre going to pay the price. You left out the Kona's cousin: The Kia Seltos. It has the same engine and transmission. It has way more room all around and cost the same in the top SX Turbo trim. I t's interior space rivals some in the next class up like the Mazda CX5. It also has a faultily cheap interior with mostly hard touch plastics and only a single zone HVAC system. It does have the sweet 10.25 inch infotainment screen which is configurable. I would definitely go wut the Seltos over the Kona any day.

You're associating the size of the car with cost, and that makes no sense. Try and apply that logic with a Porsche 911. This car with its engine/transmission is appealing to a driving enthusiast who doesn't give a crap about the size of the back seat. It's a bargain.

Spending north of 30k for a Kona is a foolish. This is a raised utilitarian small SUV. The SEL + 2.0 tech package for 23K is a superior car in everywhere. No DCT (many have been replaced with low miles, they shudder, and don't like inclines when creeping in traffic. The GDi is prone to carbon buildup ($$$$) since no port injections. The turbo is another failure point. Once you look at Ulimate/Limited trim, for 30K there are much better choices from Toyota and Honda. The only feature worthwhile in higher trim is leather seats, LED lights. Not work 31K. If your buying this for warranty and to run it for 200k or more, buy the 2.0 engine, with 6 speed torque converter and not GDI. They will last forever if take care of. The higher end models will need oil catch can, meticulous service to keep turbos running, and you will need to alter your driving habits to deal with the DCT. If you want a sporty SUV then buy one, trying to make a BWM X suv out of a Kona is not a good idea. Depreciation, and parts failure will disappoint you. Stay far clear of the DCt, GDI, Turbos, and the CTV (Ivt) that hyundai is now having loads of problems (sonata, soul) (in the venue and seltos). Choose wisely.

I've got a 2019 one as a courtesy car at the moment while my 2020 Honda is being repaired after an accident, its awful! It looks stylish but it's all plastic, engine is noisy, boot is small, MPG isn't great.. Its only quite when you get to 6th gear and in the UK that's rare. Even the wipers are noisy. Look at the used prices of the 2020 and 2019 ones they've lost so much value. My Honda isn't perfect but it's bigger inside and out. Faster, quieter, better on fuel and better quality. Personally, I'd avoid buying one of these, especially if you live in the UK.

Beaver from Oz .Just bought a new Kona and we love it. Not concerned about luggage space in our case but we wanted a car that handled well and was fun to drive. The Highlander is top model in Aus with AWD, bigger brakes, dct, different rear susp and turbo motor. We actually get better mpg than specs say unless you drive it really hard. Love the wide rims and tyres even though they are a bit noisy on coarse chip roads. Also way faster than most of the competition including Honda's.
