When I first heard about Kawasaki 's new trail bike lineup I was excited to hear that one of the Japanese brands was finally stepping up and offering a more performance oriented entry level machine.
In the past most trail bikes offered were low on power and lacked modern suspension. The KLX230R and KLX300R bridge the gap and still maintain a lower maintenance, reliable, durable nature that is expected out of trail bikes.
Huge thanks to Robert who on our last trail ride offered me a ride on his brand new 2020 KLX300R. I happily said yes and here are my thoughts after riding this machine!
Would you own one?

I own one and absolutely love it. I am 40 years old, 200lbs, 5'10" and its has plenty of power. It also lugs down and lets you crawl if need be. I follow my kids on there crf50,110,125 bikes. I couldn't be happier.

UPDATE: Since a lot of the comments have been deleted, Robert and I resolved the issue and there are no hard feelings. It was all a simple misunderstanding that should have been handled off of social media. (not my choice). Enjoy the review video and if some of you want to edit / change your previous comments I would appreciate it! Thank you for your time, Tanner.

I watched the video and you never hit a rock or anything hard for that matter.I wanted to buy this bike it looks like a great affordable motorcycle so great review.Robert didn't seem upset what so ever.If he saw something wrong with the bike he should have spoken to you face to face or contact you via email to explain what happened and then I'm sure that you would have offered to fix the problem.This is one reason that I use my own things and I don't use other people's stuff because of shit like this and I always say if I break it I pay for it.

@@steveshot81 For all we know the fork seal on the KLX could have been like this well before AD ever got his hands on it. The bike is way too new to be having blown fork seals already. I've been riding since the '80s and you didn't do anything that bike wasn't intended to do. Shit happens and that blown seal was either due to the hours he already put on the bike or maybe the last guy who serviced the forks or even poor installation from the factory or a bad design by Kawasaki. Whatever it was, it was not because of the way you rode it. That's just dumb.

Own one and love it! Ive been away from dirtbiking for over 30yrs now. Bought this bike on the recommendation of my friend who had one and sold it to buy a KTM 300 2 stroke. Although the KLX 300r is not the same bike as the KTM it gets me to the same places. It's a very capable bike.

I bought one this spring. It's no replacement for my kx250f of course but it's faster steering, more tractable and my fun to ride at a slower pace. Electric start is nice, quite well sprung until you hit a hole at speed which will blow though the suspension. It's very lean and does need a controller which I bought. It's also restricted on the muffler. I drilled acouple 1/8 holes in the baffle which has helped BC I don't want a loud aftermarket. All in all, it's better offroad than my kx250f.

I bought the SSR450 new this year on clearance for $4100, swapped the forks, rear spring and carb for Honda and plated it in AZ for riding in CA all for under $5k total VS buying a 12 year old clapped out plated 450x that needs top end and all bearings replaced for that price. You can have your integrity for companies that do work to innovate, but all you are doing is paying double for the next guys bike. A guy on youtube here swapped KX forks and carb on the 300

Do you guys realize that this bike came out in 2009. With upside down forks, with electric start, with fuel gauge, and that year has hand guards. Kawasaki just discontinued it due to slow sales. It was called KLX 250. I have to give you they did add fuel injection and 50cc. The bike hasn’t changed the frame suspension, or motor in 10-15 years.

I'm hoping they finally start making bigger dual sports, I'd love to see a 400 idc if they used the same engines as the older 400ex etc.. I love the drz400 but fact that it's carb and 5 speed kills it for me.. and I don't want a high maintenance 450 bike or a steel framed 650.. my perfect bike would be aluminum frame and 400ish cc engine 6 speed and fuel injection.. I'm a bigger rider so these small cc bikes aren't suited for me..

You don't notice the weight. It's not that heavy in the grand scheme of things. It's mostly the same bike as the older KLR300. The weight comes from new exhaust, e-start and EFI parts. The bike runs much better than the old carb 300. It's like the old 300 with pumper carburetor.

I have a 1996 KLX (already 25yo) and I love the bike. I have ridden other newer bikes and I have never been faster on another bike even on a WR400. (Most of the riding I do is tight trails and hard Enduro) I think Kawasaki had a really good bike when it came out. All this bike needs is a flat seat stiffer suspension and a flywheel cover that doesn't stick out so much. The engine is a bit underpowered compared to a new bike but other than in the open it is a great bike. I have ridden some hard Enduro and I came mid pack on a 25yo bike. It put many newer bikes to shame. My friends keep asking me when I am going to get a new bike and I am not sure I would be better on a new one. About 2000 I bought a new WR400 and I am still riding the old KLX.

With a Rekluse clutch and left hand rear brake, it was quite fun. And she’s definitely all there. I’m a heavy guy at about 250 pounds. How do you all think the 300 would do for me. I've been riding for 40 years. Raced mx nearly all of my life. Cased a million times, bottomed out hard a million times, NEVER ONCE BLEW A FORK SEAL. Riding in clay and getting mud on the stanchion tubes , and if it dries hard, it dries like cement, this WILL cut fork seals. The other thing that ruins forks seals is not using a block between the fender and tire when strapping the bike down to trailer or truck it home. My first clue about the mud, is the rear fender was covered in clay. Blame the clay, not Tanner

Is there any examples of the “block” you speak of ? New to dirtbikes but picking this same bike up tomorrow, just wanna make sure I strap it down correctly..

This or the 230 flavor will go faster in the woods than most guys are willing to. Plus it should run forever cheap.

Mike Essary I had a KLX140G as my first dirt bike and it got me around ridiculous places in the woods. I keep a TTR-125 for a backup to use when I’m waiting for parts to arrive for my Beta. 😀👍

The 230 has way worse suspension and I think it might be heavier? That 300 is nice though. They should have made a street legal version from the factory to challenge the WR250R.

@@endurox1481 the edit was probably because whatever you did or said wasn't useful for the narrative of the video. People watched this video for a review of the bike, not to see someone make baseless accusations? Why are you still commenting? Did you not watch the video and see how easy of a ride it was? You owe someone an apology.

Welllllll, if we want to be sticklers Yamaha has been making the wr250f for a while now, and they make the yz250fx. Honda was making the crf250x which was much more performance oriented than the crf250f and they are now making the crf250rx which is basically a slightly changed crf250r. But in my experience all Japanese manufacturers except suzuki (but who are we kidding, suzuki is a joke anyways) have been making trail bikes within the last decade. What the people really want though is a remake of the kdx200. Please kawasaki, please!!

If that short rip blew the seals maybe it isn’t the right bike for Tilly lol, at least not without different springs. After watching Spurgeon Dunbar from RevZilla put one of these through its paces, it seems unlikely a short ride like that would cause those problems.

@StoneyWV
@StoneyWV 4 жыл бұрын
Dude I think everyone is missing the point with this. If you are willing to hand someone your bike and they bring in back without obvious crash damage than anything that happened to the bike is clearly not the negligence of that rider. If you think otherwise then you should never hand your bike over to someone. I have no doubt Tanner that if you actually left the ground on his bike and that's the first time anyone has ever done that then it probably did push dirt up into the seals because the lower fork legs probably had all kinds of crusted on material that have never got swept off from using full travel or never been polished off during a good cleaning.

@@davidlewis3744 Yeah, basically. I mean, I started and learned in one day but, I started on a 110 w/ no clutch. Rode that for a few hours. No previous dirtbike experience. Then they put me on a KX450.. Rode that for about 30min. Very slow lol. Then I bought the KLX and have been riding it ever since. I still have it and I still ride it every other day. Actually just bought a Power Commander for it and a new exhaust. I love the bike. I can answer any question / doubt you may have about it.. Just let me know.

I have a 2005 klx 250 after 91000kms I have done my first ever top end rebuild and put a 330cc big bore kit and pumper carburetor bike is 100% better now, there is a guy on adventure rider that has covered 130,000kms on a 351cc big bore kit which proves the longevity of going big bore kit, I think Kawasaki have taken a step backwards with there new 300R extra weight and not for dual sport full registration purpose! Kawasaki really need to come up with a klx350 dual sport, I think in today's current market you are far better off shopping around for a good used klx250 dual sport and putting a big bore kit on it, cheaper/better/more practical! This new 300r just does not make sense! What was Kawasaki thinking?
