You can adjust the throttle stop on these bikes on the throttle body so it tensions the cable slightly to increase the idle speed and also can carry revs a little higher when you're off the throttle and pulling out of corners.

Have the same bike. Like any 2 stroke it takes a while to warm up. I start it put my gear on. Let it idle to 150-180. Then I start to the apply some throttle.

Leave the screw out until your rads are warm and don't touch the throttle

the wrench u stuck in sprocket when tightening chain helps keep chain tight for measurement? Always was a bit confused when manual says be sure bottom link are taunt???? do you find better shifting with the gear oil you use? Nice video!!!

I run Bel-Ray 80W trans oil in my 300. Lead tech at the dealer said they had seen several issues of clutches getting hot quick with standard 20w-50. Granted I am in the south where the winters are pretty mild

Yes I run AMSOIL SAE80 Dirtbike Transmission oil now, and note much less accidental neutral hits. Transmission Fluid: www.amsoil.com/p/synthetic-dirt-bike-transmission-fluid-dbtf/?zo=1498525 I never had a hot clutch issue with either. That includes trials riding Moab Pritchard's Canyon, etc. All clutch work.

I just measure 675ml oil and skip the oil check. Throttlestop/Idle screw could probably use some adjustment (Assuming the air screw is set correctly). I use Slavens idle screw and adjust it a bit and then turn it back out once it warms up on really cold days. Highly recommended if temps where you're at vary a lot. The stock adjustment screw is a thread locked torx allen screw...becareful it strips easy.

Yeah I seen a detailed video on the throttle stop screw. Gotta remove throttle body and torch the red locktite to remove the inset screw.

The chain slack is to be checked with the rear wheel off the ground. It is not the battery causing the cold start issue. You were not using the black Cold Start knob on the throttle body long enough (it acts like a choke). That idle adjusting screw is only an air screw. So turning it in richens it and turning it out leans it out which raises the idle. These bikes are not made to idle but start riding it easy as working anything helps it to warm up faster. Sorry but I would never use Amsoil in a Dinky Toy.

You need to adjust chain so it almost touches bottom of swingarm. Think about suspension travel V chain length. Your output shaft and gearbox will thank you.

Just following the KTM manual that came with the bike. It gives the measurement I used and it works perfectly. No binding on hard hits and not too loose to come off sprockets.

Here in SK we see -30 regularly. What trans mission oil would you recommend for a TC250 that will not be stored in climate control during the winter. Also would you recomend Interceptor or Dominator using high test pump gas?

Hey Patty. I once had a gf from Moosejaw SK. haha tough winters indeed. Definetly go with the AMSOIL SAE 80 Dirt Transmission oil and Dominator 2-Stroke racing oil. It's what AMSOIL recommends for all TPI bikes. The Dominator 2-stroke Viscosity @ 40'C is 35.2 cSt and @ 100'C 7.0 cSt. In comparison you could also run the Interceptor 2-stroke @ 40'C is 29.9 cSt and @ 100'C 6.4 cSt which is the most popular sled oil. To give another comparison the AMSOIL 2-Stroke Injector oil also marketed to sleds and boats is 36.3 cSt and 6.9 cSt. To give example of a higher viscoisty 2-stroke oil we must look at the AMSOIL SABER which is designed to run 100:1 mix ratio compared to other two-stroke oils at 50:1. 107.4 cSt @40'C and 14.0 cSt @ 40'C. Initial viscosity is 3x the thickness and operating temp viscosity 2X. Please order via my website or mention referral #1498525 irnieracing.shopamsoil.com

0.30, you were going to adjust idle, didnt you? Never go adjust idle while engine is cold in two strokes. You should only adjust idle when engine is on its operating temperature.

not impressed, I will stick with my 18 carbed 300.I think mine cold starts better. I want to like a 300 TPI so bad but the more I watch how they start, run, weight penalty, no kick start I just cant get excited about it. you think think after 3 model years KTM would have this figured out.

that screw needs to stay out for a couple of minutes at those temperatures. And please don't rev until bike is warm. There are many cases of KTM300 seizing from doing just what you did. Learned that before I got my 22 KTM300 xc. Rid safe

Throttle is the problem? Start it and don't touch the throttle. Computer should take care of warm up.

should have read the manual on cold starts. Your bike wanted to stay on the very first time you started it but you didnt know what your doing.

What did I miss on that first cold start? Maybe I forgot to open the air "choke," but I can't remember now. At 170hrs now, I always practice hitting the starter for a second (not to start) but to warm up the battery once, before actually trying to start the bike.. Works great, along with always using the "air choke"

@@irnieracing you get the point didn't you and his warm up process is completely wrong. This tpi bikes you need to warm up without touching the throttle.

@@makstursic6696 yes I understand the concept as the tpi ECM is already set to add more oil during cold starts (based in engine temperature below a certain point anywho). Thus adding throttle could possibly cause too much oil to foul the spark plug. Either way never had one issue with fouled plugs. My typical process is cold start with air bypass open and let run while finishing up my bike/gear prep for 5-10 minutes. Then turn air bypass knob back in to lower idle (normal idle). Let idle another few minutes then turn off bike. Let heat soak a few minutes or more and then ride with low rpms until bike starts to run clean and go!
