I tested one today and was impressed with the ride quality, plus it sort of growled with the hybrid system. Great car.

I have one, and it’s the non hybrid one. After having big company cars (QASHQAI, XTRAIL, etc) found driving 10K miles a here on my own, because at the weekends we end up using my wife’s 18 plate Ignis in the exact same colour as the one on the video but non hybrid manual. Long story short, we now have two Ignis SZT, mine is a 68 plate manual and orange. I do 25-30 mile a day, 60% is urban driving and the rest is dual carriage as well as back road, it does 55.8mpg consistently at a average speed of 32mph alround trip. I get 320-340 miles out of 29L of 95RON petrol, costs £380 to insure, £140 on tax and £12 a month to service (£134 yearly) for service at a main dealer. After 18 months and 14K miles couldn’t be happier. We have a 3.5yrs old boy and we do trips of over 200miles on it if needs to be, I love MTB so most days off or weekends I’ll have one or two bikes on the roof rack. It will do 110mph if needs be and it sits confortably at 85mph on the motorway even when loaded with the three of us, luggage and a MTB on the roof. The AC is really good, the car warms and dimists really fast and CarApple Play or Android Auto is everything you really need. Weight is such an overseen aspect these days and there we have a car that proves that size and fat matters, specially the lack of it and that you don’t have to compromise much to enjoy it, in fact quite the opposite ss this thing will make you grin without going to the jail. Ok it’s not the quietest of the cars on motorway, the rear end styling was done in a rush just before 5 o’clock, yes you will feel the wind on open road and sometimes you’ll wanting a bit more luggage, although inside if you can live with just 4 seats they’re really good and spacious. I will keep it another 3 or 4 years for sure, but looking on what’s available out there I wonder what could I have on a similar footprint that it’s such a swiss army knife as this car is.

Suzuki's have an excellent reputation in Australia. I really like the styling on this one.

I love Suzuki cars, I’ve owned a few Suzuki’s and they have been great cars. I bought a brand new Suzuki swift in 2010 and in 2 years and about 60,000 miles it never missed a beat, when I sold it you couldn’t tell it from a new car. The other 3 Suzuki’s have been used, they have all been great.

Not great, not good, absolutely awesome reviews, detailed and useful, straight to the point, enjoyable and with a huge array of models, young and old. The best on youtube.

Revisited this video Matt as my aunt today put a deposit down on a 19-plate Ignis in the same colour and spec as this although not a hybrid version. What a fabulous little car - no aires and graces, it just does exactly what it says on the tin and the room inside is incredible (and as you know I’m 6’5”) and the tall stance is a nice SUV-esque aspect but without being an SUV! We tested it against a Fiesta, i20, Rio, Clio, C3 and Yaris and this just won our hearts and ticked every box for what she needs!

Suzi's are great little cars. Cheap but absolutely cheerful. I had a SC100/Wizzkid for awhile, slightly bent though. It had been in a ditch, not me, friends wife got the braking on wet roads a bit wrong. I would have restored it but the body panels were no longer available. Love the homage to that on the Ignis's bum, very nice. Looking forward to more new reviews, be cool if you could get some of the more unusual stuff. Thanks.

Yes I definitely agree on the rear quarter looking like the Whizz-kid. It was the first thing I spotted when these were launched. I'm glad Suzuki is acknowledging their history.

Nice, I'm a huge fan of the unique design of the new Ignis. It was a serious contender when I was looking for cheap new get around car, but it felt a little too narrow with another adult sitting in the passenger seat, so I ended up buying the Swift Hybrid.

I really like how they have styled this inside and out more practical than luxurious and just looks a nice car to drive. I'd probably go the Duster route as I need a larger car if I was considering a cheap SUV. Currently drive a estate car but can see it being a SUV next. I'd love to see your view on the MG HS which I'm quite interested in.

Rewatching this 2 years on because the more I see the Ignis, the cooler they seem to me. I still don't like the rising waistline in the rear doors, but that aside I've grown to really like these. I only recently learned that the all wheel drive models also have this SHVS hybrid system (I thought they were non-hybrid), if you get one registered before 1st April 2017 then the VED is £20 on them. I am someone who is living in a rural area of southern Scotland, so these appeal a huge amount! I love smaller cars, TBH the Volvo V40 I have is about as big as I like to drive - again, rural area, many B-roads, something big and boat-like isn't anywhere near as fun to drive as something small with a wheel at each corner.

Always liked the cutesy looks of this Ignis when it first came out. Although I keep changing my mind about the rear. Great little car though. Always like cars that are more individual. I'm thinking of a Citroen C4 Cactus next. Maybe you can drive one of those 😁👍

I was "lucky" enough to see this doing laps of the Mira test track on a visit there, shortly before it launched... I remembered thinking at the time "they've disguised that rear end, that can't be the final design". But no, it really was the final, fuggly rear-end of the production car!

In my opinion only Suzuki and Dacia are making good, simple and reliable cars these days. If I had to buy a new car I'd choose from those two manufacturers. Really enjoyed the vid.

The Whizz Kid is one of my favourite cars too it shared a lot of mechanical parts with the Bedford Rascal

Nice review. I like the pseudo retro styling too. I'm a fan of Suzuki's way of doing things; small, affordable and not bothered about 'perceived quality', squidgy dashboards.. but screwed together properly. If only they did a low spec but with 4wd option. Definitely a possible car for Mrs Spm_steve in a few years..

Yay - an Ignis! As an owner of a 2005 Ignis 4Grip it is interesting to have a look around a new version. Having done a lot of research before buying mine 18-months ago, the ONLY competition (to the 2005 car) was the Fiat Panda, but that had quite different properties in terms of performance and ride. Similarities to the new version: quite tall, narrow and short; unbelievably big on the inside considering its external dimensions; door pockets with cup holders and cup holder elsewhere; hard plastic, but hard wearing interior. I think the new car looks better, but I'd have issues with the poor rear visibility, and I really can't stand modern infotainment systems (don't get me started on the electronic handbrakes...). The old version doesn't roll on corners, but the suspension is mini-like stiff and the live rear axle doesn't like rough roads. I would also never call the old version quiet! Nice to see the Japanese can still make their cars interesting and different! Thank you for the excellent review - love the new aerial footage :-)

Technically this is a 2019 model, the 2020 facelift is arriving very soon with a more efficient engine (same 1.2 but improved), an improved mild hybrid system and an optional CVT transmission.

I have a petrol on a 67 plate. Nippy and fun and great on consumption. Love the back on it. And great space inside. Mine is pre face lift, 2 wheel drive, and looks like this

The slot in the front above the glove box is for gloves. It is also heated. Stick your gloves in there and when you end your journey you have nice warm gloves and you do not have to open the glove box !

SC100 is a car I'd buy in a heart beat if I could find one here in Aus. Nice to see someone else still likes them :)

As a regular Viewer of this fantastic Channel, As well as 2 other very well known channels here on KZfaq. I have to say I love how professional You do these videos, For Me I am totally in agreement about all these SUVs being so pointless, I really do not get the point in them what so ever. However The Ignis is one of those unique cars That Even though it comes across as An SUV It really isnt, I also like the fact the top spec comes with 4 wheel drive. That's quite astonishing given not just its compact size but most SUVs are not 4 wheel drive. I really do like the Ignis Have to say well done too Suzuki for having the bottle to Desgin something that really does stand out. On your New Modern Monday series It would be intresting too see if you could Get Hold Of a New Micra and see if your views are the same as mine towards them? In South America we have the Ignis, Renault Kwid Stepway And Sandero Stepway, Fiat Uno Way and Mobi Way, VW UP Cross and Gol Cross, Citroen C3 Air, Geely LC Cross And Ford Ka Freestyle. All similar small suv cars.

This is a really charming car. The only thing I don't like, and a lot of cars do this, is the taillights and how the reverse lights and turn signals are not on the same level or same shape so it looks like the lights on the hatch and the lights on the body are from 2 different cars.

It's a nice car. I like Suzuki and it's quirkyness and value for money. I really like the Japanese Alto (with the small 4 vertical stripes grill). That is what an alto should be, simple and quirky. The Celerio was a swing and a miss..

I guess the closest thing that this comes to are the strange city-SUV crossovers that are so popular in Japan. I would prefer the Suzuki Hustler to be honest, but would settle for any current Suzuki model, love them all! - Trev

One design feature I dislike about this Ignis, and indeed any vehicle with it, is that sloped up waistline in the rear door. We had a 2010 Suzuki Alto from 2010 to 2013, and that rising waistline on the rear door makes the rear cabin feel very claustrophobic. Perhaps one of the most claustrophobic cars I've experienced is the Toyota CH-R, you feel very closed in in the rear because there's hardly any window in the rear doors. I prefer a level waistline, such as that on a mk1 Focus C-Max, which feels far more roomy in the back than it actually is, because there's loads of glass.

To answer the question of what it is, It a car for rural use. Small roads, sometimes muddy. A car like the Ignis or the Jimny for that matter are much loved by people living in villages in rural areas.

Tea shelf factor: 3/10. Put the tea strainer in the cubby box.

Same idea as a Fiat Panda Trekking.... and the entertainment/ Bluetooth system is the same as in a Mercedes actros truck. Always liked the design of this car. It's small and it's different. If I could spare the cash, I would certainly have one.

I 've had one for 3 years. The negs are the seats are not good. They lack comfort and support. The swift is better. Not enough cabin, boot lighting. Suzuki force an expensive 6 month oil change interval which adds up to high ongoing costs. The positives are that it is fun to drive and has so far been reliable.

I'm definitely looking at one of these as my next car, although I don't think it'll be a brand new one.

You'll notice a lot of reviews run along the lines of "driven gently you might achieve 40mpg". You can, but it's really tedious. With this you can pretty much hoon it all the time and it'll achieve 40mpg. And you'll keep your licence.

I have had blue one for 2 years achieving 4.8 l/100km on E10. Bought it to let my grandson learn to drive. He got the licence today. A red "P" plate licence, here (NSW AU) the kids have to have a learner licence for 12 months and do 120 hours, 20 at night with a fully licenced driver, grandpa in my grandson's case and suffer a 90 kph speed restriction. Then they must display a red "P" (or provisional licence) plate for another 12 months with another 90 kph speed restriction. After this there is a period of 2 years with a green "P" plate and a 100 kph speed restriction. Weird to see the Pommie Ingis configuration. Here most are auto with a CVT and no hybrid. Great off the mark and drive well. Strange to see the trafficators and wiper controls on the wrong side. I am used to these when driving in Europe, but am always glad to get home and have them set-up where they should be for a RHD car. No LHD cars allowed here (except for imported vintage models) but we do have some European and Pommie models with the crazy trafficator set-up. The DAB radio looks great, would be good in urban areas here (DAB only available within 60 km of major cities). A great car for a youngster to learn to drive on, and for an old phart to ferry grandchildren and occasionally drive to Canberra (from Penrith NSW) for volunteer work. No good for the family accountant who requires a bit more presence, a medium size Japanese SUV, again with the trafficators on the correct side.

Can you review the new Fiat Panda mild hybrid when it becomes available? That would be very interesting. It is probably the most similar car to the Ignis.

Lovely Jubbly, not so cheap and cheerful, better off with a Dacia Sandero Stepway.

It’s a sensible choice without all the pitfalls of an SUV

So let me get this straight. It has less interior space than a Volvo 740, less boot space, smaller engine, worse tea shelf, no spare tyre and less crumple zone. But it costs approx 80 times more? I know you get the orange '3 strike' vents, but the Volvo has 'rust' orange floor vents.

"Spring" lol in name only. As for the shopping trolley i say pfft. Get back under that Volvo tank, yay.

The manufacturers have altered some of their platforms just in case they think is a customer for it because they have raised heights of this type of vehicle's or just made to look like it in super mini segment these are examples the Ford ka active, Dacia Sandeep stepway, Vauxhall Viva rocks, Citroen C1 urban ride, Hyundai i20 active newer version, Kia picanto X-line, probably don't come close to the unique drive and ability to function as Fiat panda and Suzuki ignis as these two are genuine are decreation body moulding wannabes lol hopefully you'll get where I'm going 😉 with this and cheers I enjoyed this thanks good car top gear had a good time killing one not nice
