I’m an experienced rider from Los Angeles. I used to own the MT 09 and I loved it. I moved from Los Angeles to Thailand 4 years ago. I am about to buy an MT 03 because the size and speed are perfect for the conditions in Thailand. I have driven 650’s and 850s here in Asia and although fun you never are able to use the extra power. I rented in quick succession a MT 07 and a MT03 (they even have a MT150 here that’s a fun city bike) I decided the MT03 was a better fit for me. It’s more fun to drive a “slow” bike fast than a fast bike slow, at least in the mountains of Northern Thailand.

Yeah the mt 15, a 150cc bike, is a fun bike. Light and agile but for my weight it lacks power and forget about the pillion. Mt03 is just right for asian road conditions also if you consider fuel economy

I bought a mt03 2021 as a first bike. I’ve been riding it this year making it my daily to work/school and coming up to 1400mi! It’s a big confidence booster for me on 2 wheels and I’ve enjoyed every ride, rain or shine. I can attest to the fuel mileage. In the beginning (less than 600mi), I was getting 51-52mpg. Now (over 1000mi), I’m at 57.1mpg. I don’t ride too crazy but I definitely mix a little fun here and there, and most of my trips are a mix of high way, and suburban/small town.

I'm 24 and I got my motocycle license recently. Since I got A license, every single person I talked with, suggested to get a 600, saying I will get bored with a 300. I just got last week the 2024 MT-03 and I can not be more happy and satisfied as a beginner rider ❤ The amount of power this bike offers is more than enaugh for a beginner, and not only. It is very lightweight, easy to handle nas forgiving for misstakes

A very interesting vlog which has prompted a comment from a “veteran rider with years of experience under his belt”. I recently downsized to an MT 03 from a 900cc Triumph Bonneville, which I owned for three years. The shear weight of this bike became a real issue for me. I wholeheartedly agree with all the good points you highlight, and pleasantly surprised by the negative points, all of which, can be easily rectified. Taking these in order :- 1. The suspension. I haven’t personally experienced any problem with instability. Even the terrible road surface in the uk haven’t upset mine when cornering. (compared to my last bike, the Yamaha corners as if it’s on rails). There are updated fork springs available if you feel like “forking out”. (sorry). 2. The brakes can be uprated easily enough by inserting upgraded pads. 3. I’ve never had problems when riding for hours, perhaps my bums more padded ! 4. The throttle tube can easily be replaced with a fast acting one quite cheaply. For me, the MT 03 is ideal regarding weight, seat height, comfort, performance, running costs (I’ve not experienced less than 90 mpg yet !) and value for money. If I were pressed to find a negative point, then it would be the lack of a pleasing exhaust note, Then again, this is purely subjective. Best regards,
@SK_XIII

I was hoping to hear your thoughts as well F! Thanks for sharing :) And 100% agree that the "bad" points are easily fixable. I may need to hit the squat rack and and some more padding to my bum 🤣

@user-rf9me7xm1w
@user-rf9me7xm1w 2 жыл бұрын
@@TK-gd9td I was surprised when it displayed 92 mpg so I reset it it and still get over 90. I think it’s correct, I don’t seem to be filling up very often. Perhaps I’m not riding it hard enough, I only bimble around and very rarely see more than 6000 rpm. TBH, I’ve only owned classic style bikes before which struggled to see 4000 rpm so a higher reving bike is still a bit of novelty. Really enjoying it though, it’s great to have such a light, responsive bike which fits me superbly, just love the colour as well. Can’t imagine changing it any time soon. Enjoy yours, best wishes.
@J.Young808

@@TK-gd9td The 90mpg could be partly due to F’s not reving up too high and the fact that the UK has higher octane rating for their gas

I feel like I was writing this comment. I just sold my Bonneville SE and am waiting for a new MT-03 to come in. I sold the Bonneville because I am 73 and the 525 lbs wet weight was just becoming too much of a problem when ever I had to push the bike in the garage or stopping on less than ideal surfaces. If not for that I would have kept the Bonneville and had it buried with me.

Active 53 years old. Riding for 6 years now. My 1st bike-2007 Yamaha 650 V-star. 2nd bike-2014 Yamaha Bolt (950). 3rd bike- 2020 Yamaha MT-03. My fav is the MT=I've had this for 2 years now. It's lightweight, nimble, easy to handle. 99% of my riding is in the city and I just don't enjoy a heavy bike with short city rides. As of yesterday, AVG is 48.9 mpg, and I'm 235lb. In my 6-month search, I chose the MT-03 over the BMW GT310, the Honda CBR 300, due to the MT being a 2-cylinder (not 1), the Kawasaki Z400 (lean angle too far forward), the dealership location (BMW dealer 110+ miles away from me, Honda, Kawasaki & Yamaha are 10 only miles away) and the Yamaha dealer having an MT03 in stock during the height of the pandemic.

@@DiegoChulo69go and sit on bikes in the dealers. Chat to the people there. Be honest, say what you said here, and say more. They'll help you. Trust your feelings and consider their advice. Do they have a demonstrator you can test. No idea about your licence or rules in your area. MT03 can do 90-100 mph. It's lightweight and nimble which is great for me riders because it's easier to steer the bike and to control it. I've been riding 50cc to 1700cc and I'm here because I'm considering an MT03. Smaller bikes teach you cornering, and makes it easier to try out different techniques. Slow in, fast out, squaring off a corner, keeping a wider entry for a later turn in so there's a wider area choice on the exit as well as being further over on your side, etc. You can try these out a lot easier and safer on a lighter bike. Master them quicker too. There's a bit more to a bike than a car. Sit on a few bikes. Get a feel for the weight between your knees as you gently rock them side to side. All the gear, all the time. How much are fingers worth to you? Price of some gloves at least? 😆 How much do you like walking? So boots, trousers and a back protector 👍

Best 1st bike for a newbie Very forgiving on throttle & handling You want to enjoy the beginning of your journey with this bike. Off course your gonna want a bigger bike , but this bike gets you ready for that bigger bike. Im 2 months in now with my MT-03 & having a blast flicking this bike in the twisties. I’m not gonna lie. Out of fear, I thought I wouldn’t be able to learn or succeed in becoming a confident rider. But out of commitment & the support of the MFS course & a good beginner bike, things have changed for the better. It’s just what I’m experiencing. So keep your ego at bay & accept that your gonna have to make incremental improvements to get into riding & don’t! Buy a bike 1st take the MFS course 1st, it’s a game changer, cause, either your really gonna like & see this as doable or your gonna really dislike it for whatever reason saving you a lot off cost & possible harm. Now, ride, ride, … .. . Side note: riding alleviates anxiety you didn’t know you even had & puts a joy in your life. That’s it. Sorry for rambling so much.

I can actually go through the gears and not be stuck in 2nd at 100mph. Much lighter of course, can flat foot, and not worry about getting a ticket because I am speeding without realizing it. Some great insights and comments here. I am an older rider although with not much riding experience time, average of about 2,000 kms per year.... short riding season plus busy schedules 😢. I have been all over the map with bikes trying find the rightbpick for me. I have owned an older VStrom 650 which i loved but found too top heavy to fully enjoy. After a few years break I actually bught a 2015 R3 which I loved. Only sold ot because my darling wife bought me a dream bike of mine for my 50th birthday.... a very mint 2009 GSXR 1000, wow! First couple of rides were very impressive but I quickly realized I was only using about 10 % of the bikes potential due to the local road condotions and my need for NOT speed (lol). 0-80 in first gear in about 3 seconds and I would already being breaking the law and driving around in first or second all day isn't that much fun . After much deliberation I decided to sell the GSXR and build my dream adventure bike using the 2021 CB500X as my platform. After all the mod installs i found it to be a little much for my small frame to handle which had resulted in some lay downs... nothing serious but enough to take away confidence. I am now in the process of loking at an MT 03 as a new bike which bought me to your video. I am not a speed seeker but do enjoy some spirited riding on our limited roads to do so around here and i an familiar woth the engine from owning the R3. Seeing video reviews like this and the comments make me realize that I probably am on the right path to finding a bike that will please the senses and boost my confidence at the same time. Also has alot of possibilities for some inexpensive mods/upgrades down the road. Thanks for posting 😊

I bought a 2020 MT-03 brand new last fall for a really good price since it was already over a year sitting in the showroom. I think this bike is fabulous for people who ride in urban areas or for those who like to ride on single lane highways where the speed limit it 50-55mph or for those who like to ride hard in the twisties but don't want to worry about getting a fine for breaking the sound barrier, the one area where I find the bike is lacking is at interstate speeds. I commute over 60 miles one way to work where over 85% percent is spent on the interstate. The average speed is between 75-80 mph. The bike can do it no problem, but it revs much to high for my liking at that speed. Should I have bought a different bike? Probably, but as a new rider I didn't want to get something to big or powerful to learn on. In the end I'm glad I bought this bike, it's fun every time I ride when I'm not going to work, but everytime I get onto the interstate I wish I had a 7th gear or a different bike all together. Oh I agree with you about the throttle twist. I'm hopping to do the R6 throttle tube swap I've heard so much about. But yeah for the money you'll be hard pressed to find a better bike.
@SK_XIII
@SK_XIII 2 жыл бұрын
That throttle tube is probably my biggest gripe because of the interstate riding that I have to do as well! But it's awesome that there is also such an easy fix to it. Glad you're enjoying your MT03 mate!

I wouldn’t worry about the rpm at highway speed. Might seem high but these bikes rev to over 12k. It’s not like a Harley that has a tach like a diesel truck. So it’s really not running as hard as you may think.

@SK_XIII
@SK_XIII 9 ай бұрын
The wobble makes it "feel" unstable, but you can still send it. I suspect it's probably the way the suspension is set up and the frame of the bike. I felt comfortable in curves and still had a lot of fun with the mt03 🤷‍♂

I would not say I am super experienced rider. Maybe 15k miles over all of the bikes I have owned. I would say I am not a noob, but average at best. I know folks with 100k+ miles that understand how to really ride a bike far better than I. First bike was an FZ06, loved that bike but at the time my circumstance changed so I got rid of it. Couple years later I got a CTX700, that bike was a dud. I wish I would have test rode it first. No power at any RPM, not nearly as nimble as the FZ. I got rid of it after less than a year. I did put a bunch of miles on it though as I commuted with it 40 miles each way for a lot of that year Between Baltimore and Columbia MD which battle hardens you. Then I got the MT09. That bike was terrifying. I only wrung it out a few times and every single time I thought it was trying to kill me. I realize how dumb that is as I was riding/controlling it. However I am not nearly seasoned enough to actually dip into its power and got rid of it after 6 months as I could see it killing me. I stopped riding for about 4 years (COVID and life) and got the itch again and now I am an old man with no kids in the house. I was between the MT03 and MT07. I decided the MT03 was far cheaper to buy, maintain (tires and insurance), and most important I could wring it out and not fear killing myself as much. It reminds me of the FZ06 a lot. Its down a little on power for sure but it has more than enough if you keep it at full song. And yeah the song it sings is amazing. Even with factory everything. This bike was $3900 plus TN tax (I am a vet in TN so tags were practically nothing)with 161 miles on it which other than my FZ06 is the cheapest bike I have ever owned. Even the insurance is the cheapest with Progressive (less than 300 a year for full coverage, towing, etc...). I now dont care if I cant ride it for 7 or 8 months do to life or whatever. It costs very little sitting there whereas the others has some money tied up and also insurance and maintenance made it so I felt I had to ride. I like to ride when I want and not feel guilty about wasting a bike or money when I can't. If you are on the fence as to what bike to get the MT03 is a very solid choice. I am sure there are others but the MT03 is great.

The MT-07 is pushing the upper range of beginner motorcycles in my opinion. You could definitely ride it and learn on it, but your growth will likely be slower compared to if you start on the MT03.
