So we installed the P2R Bored Throttle body and P2R Mid-Pipe on the TLX Type S and went back to the track to see the results.

So excited to watch this build, hopefully the tuning can eliminate the auto upshifts. Then I'd definitely buy one.

For sure I definitely believe that acura really Nerf the tuning on this thing all in the name of reliability. I can easily see that engine making 470+ horsepower with a simple tune and maybe some e50

@@drivescene6747 is makes 472 hp from a naturally aspirated engine that is proven , type s is turbo charged a new type of engine , lots of things can go wrong there. Acura wanted to main their general reliability reputation but they went too big on the nerfing of the tuning for this car… But I get you, acura was too conservative with tuning, the engine and transmission is very capable. Shawn from P2r assessed it and said it’s capable… I have my hopes high tho, heavy cars can go fast, with right mods and running I see this car being a complete animal. Lol type s is a great car that was… well, over hyped…it deserves a type s badge but it was hyped as if it was a type r….. And the end of the day because of Honda makes the best engines with the best experience I think the type s has the best engine in the class, along with the m340i unfortunately it’s the slowest in the class…. Conservative.Tuning. Ruined. potential.

@@RaY_77W I agree with literally every word you said. That said, Acura could’ve still squeezed 30 additional horsepower out of this engine easily, but from what I heard this 3.0t is actually not the original 3.0t that was planned. The original 3.0t was pushing closer to 400hp but had severe cooling issues so they redesigned the engine last minute and tuned it conservatively and hoped that it would be enough, but they miscalculated big time.

“I’m very disappointed with those numbers”He hit the nail on the head . This car should have at least 400HP with all the hype. To me they type S badge means nothing. There was really nothing special about the older type S models . Acura should have learned from their missteps in the past and make the type S really mean something this time around.

@@titaniumspecial4207 but I’m not seeing the value. Acura stated the S4 and M340i as it’s closets competition. That’s laughable because you have the genesis and Kia stinger destroying this car on quarter mile tests. Yes it’s faster than your average domestic, or base Honda. But I’m just not seeing a 54k car.

The extreme Honda fanboys (and I’m a fan of Honda just not delusional) always neck Defensive and offended when I explain the TLX from the base to the type s shit....it’s a disappointing, underperforming, OVERATED car. I had a A spec for 2 weeks, felt extremely cheap, the turbo 4 cylinder didn’t feel as quick as the V6 , subpar fuel economy and overweight. The type s is utter garbage to be producing truly horrendous numbers and real world performance

I wouldn’t say Honda dropped the ball. Linear acceleration is but one facet of what makes for a desirable sport sedan. The TLX-S is feature-rich in virtually every significant area, pulling-through Honda’s build quality & engineering excellence. And the handling is amazing. Also...the new block is very strong, built with 6 bolt main caps...it’s strong. Unquestionably gobs more h.p. can & will be extracted from this machine as mods become available.

@Hot Curry, ::Edited:: I didn’t know that, but just read that the new J30-AC, DOHC engine actually features variable valve timing, but not electronic valve lift control. Variable valve timing & valve lift control is a proven strategy to bring a flatter power curve to normally aspirated engines. Where turbocharging suffers is with “turbo lag”. Twin turbo designs and also Honda’s “variable flow” turbo design partly remedies that shortcoming.

So many critics of the Type S where the matter is based upon the Publix’s misunderstanding of the manufacturer’s intent with their Type S badge. As far as straight-line performance & handling goes, Acura calibrates their flagship badge against their model’s base offering, not against all the competitors. In handling, Acura’s SHAWD is technologically stellar. Considering the TLX, the car is available with 1.) a 270 hp f.I. 4cyl, 2.) with the 290 hp sohc V6 n.a. motor, and 3.) the 355 hp dohc f.I. engine. The Type S is at least 3/4 sec. faster to 60 than the n.a. J35 engine. P2R in a prior video gave opinion that the new 6 bolt main dohc block is capable of huge power gains when modded to the limit.

Stock may not be as fast as the competition but to me its by far the best looking. If it had 50 more hp stock itd be a perfect car in its class imo. Its sounds great and is still a really fun car to drive stock. The handling for a car that weighs as much as it does is really good. The acura engineers did an amazing job for sure. Hopefully in the future models they either reduce its weight or bump up the hp a bit.

I’m very excited to see you guys building the type-S, i was very disappointed with the stock results, this car is unworthy of the “type S” badge, but if honda’s 2.0l turbo charged engine can be tuned to produce over 300 hp and sometimes nearly 400 hp with TypeR turbo, i think with right tune, this engine can produce +400 hp easily, also have to reduce the overall weight.

The problem is that it'll need to do that to just hang with its bone stock competition.. Let alone the fact they all also respond really well to mods and tuning, too.

@@kylegordon9523 m340i is a nice car but it's just a basic bmw. The type S was made for its rarity and for the fans who like it. Anyone who likes the Type S is not going to compare to another car. It's got its own status in the eyes of the owner. Also it's better built than any of its competitors.

@@ryanb7110 I can assure you , as an Acura owner/ fan, the TLX is not exactly well built. It does look great i will admit. However, the previous gen Tl type S was a gem. I had a 2021 TLX A spec loaner for almost 3 weeks... I was beyond disappointed. It felt cheap everywhere, fairly slow, and handling was underwhelming. The Type S is at the bottom of the mid tier premium performance segment...the Genesis G70 better in every single facet , including the Mercedes-AMG C43 & the BMW m340i. In short, the TLX is a basic Honda not worth getting over a fully loaded Accord Sport (great value)

Yes, changing the heads and completely building it from the ground up will make it the fastest in the world, but at what cost? I’m sure for the average owner this is not what they signed up for. Best of luck.

@@Highlander1432 i had a deposit down on this car. I just got rubbed the wrong way from the dealers and the reviews. i drove it over and over and could not get over the fact that it felt drowsy. I ended up getting another car in the same real which i won’t mention, out of respect for this brand. I love it but i just couldn’t fork up that money for that.

@@Highlander1432 I’m a loyalist but I’m not stupid. The dealers have a huge part in this cars dark cloud. The car was right there at the edge of attainably, even if it IS slower, i liked it a lot. However I could not see the value in the upmark these cars were getting. Like i state, it was border line too costly to demand that price to begin with. I decide to go with another brand that gave me everything I wanted, but i still have a huge admiration for the Type S.

Gonna drop down to 12.9 with the tune I bet...Acura held this car back so much with weight and power.I feel like theres deff another 40hp or so to get out of that engine for sure..I know top end with the tune will be strong and make this a decent highway car...handles amazing tho iL say that steering response it instant on this thing 0 delay....when tunes come out some people gonna gut the back seats and have these things flying I bet lol

I have a G37X (coupe) also. I was so pumped about the TLX Type-S, but I am shocked that the G37X, which originally came out in 2008, still outperforms the TLX. G37X Coupe regularly trap 104mph, and I believe the G37X sedan is even quicker.... Hopefully ECU tuning brings the TLX to life!

U guys should be trying a splash of e85 to see if the ecu is pulling timing. Also a oem scanner to pull some sensor data and see if IATS are super high, that would kill power. Lastly, if you could find a compressor map, maybe be reading that QR code on the turbo, u can see if the turbo is maxed out speed wise, or at least where its at in the compressor map. Id wager its small for the engine size and one of the new hybrid turbos like prl makes for the fk8 would really help.

We have ktuner hooked up on the car as a gauge. So we're able to read the IATs and everything. But not really getting to technical in these videos yet. As car is mainly stock so not much that can be done yet in terms of adjustments.

@@PowerRevRacing can you elaborate on what u are reading for the gauges? Mainly timing and iats is what i would think could be affecting power. If u see timing being pulled than some quality octane booster like boostane could be added for the time being or the ol 1-2 gallon per tank e85 trick to get the car making maximum stock power.

Man I can't wait to see what a tune will do to this car. Honda have always been super conservative with their motors, I have high hope for this V6. I believe you guys will be able to get this motor to push over 1000hp by the end of the year.

I'm sure after they crack the ECU...the haters will stop trolling. its not like this car was made only for 1/4...but idiots measure fast by that. look at the CTR...that thing destroys anything in its class on the circuit but does almost the slowest 1/4 time. there's more to a car then just 1/4. I'm sure 400WHP will be on the horizon with the stock turbo and some bolt-ons. i don't expect anything less from this if the aspec 2.0T makes that much gains after a flash.

Gonna be spending a lot of $$$ just to make the car as Acura should have at the dealerships. Goodluck, I own one and they are just way too heavy. It’s a sharp looking car to cruise around in comfortably, would never consider trying to race it cuz everything will beat you lol

If one just looks at any Acura product, be it the TLX race car or NSX race car, you know that these cars will be extremely tunable..at what cost??? Less than a fully tuned BMW, Mercedes that's for sure. I own an MDX Type S and it is fine. Not everybody wants a track demon.

my guess is save it for another platform.. its like when they would make the jseries or k series a little weaker in the honda product.. but make it better in the acura product.. im thinking they are going to use the same engine on a different platform and tune it up.. but who knows!!!

May be for a better long-term reliability...Average drivers like me don't care much if it's either 355 or 400 HP...And here in canada, Acura SH-AWD performs pretty well in winter...

@@yvanouellet3398 no argument from me, I think it’s leagues ahead of your basic domestic. It’s just a let down when you add the “Type S” badge and a $54+ price tag. I’d rather go Cadillac, CT4 V. AWD 325hp/380tq starts at $45k. But on the quality front, yeah, the Acura is going to last a while, we hope since it’s a completely new car.

I don't undertsand. V6-6 Speed NA 9th Gen accords were going 100+ through the traps bone stock. Isn't unheard of to go 103-105 with a good tune and good air bolted up. Add two turbo's to the mix and.....it's slower? Really hope you guys bring out the potential in these cars, it's a huge letdown that my lightly modded '03 CLS-6 speed would've ran door to door with this car......

I’m confused as i had a 2006 slk55 and with 355 hp and that was a 12.7 car i think if i remember well. I figured this car would be in the high 11s. I love this car either way

Car and Driver did not do it on a drag strip. So there time will be faster due to the surface having less grip. The drag strip is a lot more sticky and on a stock car like this that does not really spin the tires or have any sort of traction issues. The added grip from the drag strip will actually slow the car down in both ET & MPH.

@@PowerRevRacing for sure. I know on 100+ days vs a 70 degree night the change in the car is very noticeable. For all we know car and driver had much cooler temps. Either way keep up the good work. I already purchased the throttle body 👍🏻👍🏻

The car is hot but should have been faster stock. My q50 redsport ran 13s stock and with a tune was low 12s. Fbo with a 93 tune got me in to mid 11s. Car cost about the same price. Was hoping for better from Acura.

Sounds really good, did you guys use K Tuner to tune & if not what did you use because I just installed a full Cat-Back valtronic exhaust & will be installing a high flow test pipe for secondary cat delete & wanna know if I need to tune it

The Key to unlock this car will be the Downpipe and the Tuning. Once the Tuning comes into play I totally See 315 to 350 HP to the wheels or 400 HP Flywheel. I also see 13.0 to13.5.

@@RB25luv The 400 Nissan is way better then that Q50 and never liked that bubble butt 370 looking body. The TLX Type S is very fun to drive has a mass of torque and the handling is exceptional. Not too mention that the quality of the Acura is very very good. For one it will hold long lasting value and reliability. Not saying that Q50 is not quality but not on the same level as Acura. Like i said with the Hondata tuning coming up your going to see that car uncorked and it will start closing alot more of those gaps. Just a matter of time.

Plus what are you talking about This is the rated numbers per the manufacture "How fast is the Infiniti Q50 0-60? five seconds The Q50 3.0L 0-60 time is an impressive five seconds in the base trims and 4.5 seconds in the Red Sport 400. Where the fuck are you getting 3.7 your stupid.

The crank hp is 355 but it produces 286 hp to the wheels.

Drivetrain loses. Most manufacturers advertise power from the crank. You lose even more in Awd and 4wd vehicles. Manuel cars tend to lose less than cars with torque converters…there are a lot of factors going into this.

I say this sadly but this car shows that with Honda current leadership, Acura is set up to fail and left using bullshit marketing to try to sell it's Honda Plus cars. Plus meaning overweight and therefore not worth the premium over Hondas offerings. Just look at the TLX, it's compromised to start with lol. Acura exclusive platform LoL. It's an accord, fwd platform, that they then had to add weight to put in the sh-awd system. Then with this generation, they added more weight and length to have that rear wheel drive front axel to dash ratio look, yet another compromise. Funny actually...a fwd vehicle that lacks the advantages of a fwd platform, just to make it look rwd but with non of the advantages of a rwd platform hahaha 🤣. If they weren't cheap and if they really were serious about performance than they would have developed a rwd platform. This is not even taking into account the components they use. Look under the type S. It's not all aluminum to be lightweight lol. This shit weighs a ton!!! There's so much more but I need to stop ranting so I'll leave you with this. Where the m5 and AMG 63 as just examples were forced to add weight for AWD because they were pushing over 500hp, you have posers Acura adding AWD when they didn't need to. Look at the best example of what a Honda should be...the still relatively light fwd Honda CTR!!!! Again I'm sorry for my rant, sorry that I suck at expressing my thoughts. At least I know my limitations...I don't right speeches. I'm not delusional and trying to pull a fast one on you like Acura's doing.

Man I love this car but the performance is such a disappointment ☹️. If Acura can make it under 4000 pounds with 50 more HP to the wheels it would clean up house! I purchased a m340i over this car even though the 340i looks worse.

love it! just got the 2022 type s white and red interior there was only black or white and I went with the white and red interior with all season wheels and tires but love the performance wheels!... also got the under spoilers and door edge guards and the side molding and the black accent blade and black emblems and carbon fiber interior and spoiler and the illuminated side sills, heated steering wheel and the welcome light... I'm thinking of getting 30/35 chystaline tints all around and maybe 70 on the windshield so I don't get pulled over all the time here in NY. and then the whole car ppf'd with suntek ceramic and then a ceramic coating over it...and MAYBE buying the performance wheels and having the all season tires put on them and maybe chrome delete the exhausts.. still haven't decided which I like better.. any recommendations or suggestions? or stuff I should or can do???

How is possible that a 3.0 V6 turbocharged has around 330hp to the crank and the 9 gen accord V6 has a 3.5 V6 “N/A” with around 306hp to the crank, less than 30hp of difference, really disappointed, also the accord is way lighter so I’m not surprised if is actually faster than the Type S, the new accord 2.0T with a ktuner and better tires for more traction I think is quicker than the Type S, there is just something not right, that engine shouldn’t have such a low amount of horse power for its size, or they really detuned the engine maybe there is a type R coming with the same engine with higher output idk

How? Take a look underneath the TLX Type S. Compare the components and architecture (materials) with real performance sedans....you'll easily see this car is compromised! Don't buy this. You'll have to strip everything out and then you'll still just have a platform that started out as an average high volume platform for the Accord...not a platform designed from the ground up to be all about performance.

That means it’s exactly as advertised, 355hp at the crank is equal to 285hp to the wheels for an AWD vehicle once you calculate drive train loss. So this simply means, Acura did not overrate nor underrate the power output of this engine.

It will be extremely interesting to see what comes of this car with some tuning. Everyone says the NSX is such an underrated super car. If tuning this type-s brings it to anywhere over 400hp and I still get that Acura reliability that would be legendary.

@@stanleydogood8874 considering, the 2.0t TLX runs 336 wheel horsepower with just a stage 3 tune which is around 420hp at the crank, I’m thinking closer to 500hp for this 3.0t, as 400hp is way too easy to achieve.

honestly way too underpowered for 3.0 litter turbo engine, especially true for a single turbo, even if it's a twin scroll turbo. This car needs to have 450+ BHP from the factory. Too many automatic stuff going on on this car. Valve in the exhaust pipe? That shit's gotta go. Why dual exhaust when there's only a single turbo? That shit costs performance, need to move the CAT-converter near the end of exhaust system or just take it out completely and sell it. Needs bigger intercooler, cold air intake with ram-air setup, manual wastegate controller, more boost, steel or aluminum pipes for the turbo system with smooth airflow, heck a bigger fcking turbo if possible... and the fcking extra rotation for the rear axle? I think it's costing performance through gear binding, only reason this isn't affecting that much is because the clutch disks for the rear axle are slipping, which is wasted energy/power IMHO

Were more focused on the performance side; however, the car is a very nice luxury sport vehicle. The drive experience is also very entertaining. It's a vehicle that many people will really enjoy owning and driving.

It’s actually 355hp, 286 is to the wheels which is not bad, it just needed more power given its weight. Also, you said $60k, assuming you’re in Canada, because the MSRP for this car is at $52k in the states. The Canadian MSRP for a C300 cabriolet is at $59,900 and that car has 255hp at the CRANK which is exactly 100hp less than the TLX Type S. By your logic, that car is an even bigger joke.
