We towed with the Durango Tow N Go and were quite impressed with it's capability!

One commonly overlooked difference between R/T TNG vs SRT is payload capacity. It is 1200 lb for RT vs 1590 lb for SRT. With 2 adults, 2 kids and 500 lb tongue weight RT gets to its max payload very quickly.

My wife and I both have diesel Ram pickups. I bought a 2020 Durango GT AWD, which is the 3.6L engine. The Tow-N-Go package is a real upgrade from a standard Durango. The best feature on mine is the better differential gear ratio. The 2021 Durango/RT with the Tow-N-Go package got the improved differential gear ratio. The 2021 dashboard is a significant upgrade. With the improved the heater controls. And the appearance looks so much better. With a little bit better glare control on the screen. Almost makes me want to trade in for a 2021 RT! Our Rams are the tow monsters. And I got the Durango for being able to park in more places than the Rams. They are just too tall to get into some parking garages. I considered an Expedition and a Tahoe. Had my wife check all 3. The Durango was the clear winner. A niece of mine has a Dodge Challenger. And she likes the Durango over the Challenger.

@@jakey20022 - As much as I have liked the Wagoneers over the years. The new one is too big. The new Wagoneer is actually the same size as my Ram 1500. The Durango can be comfortably parked in places our Rams cannot. Our Ram 2500 is too heavy to go in some parking garages. But most people don't read the warning signs at the garage entrances.

Super fun vehicle to drive as well. Just don't throw kids in the back with that exhaust drone, otherwise you'll hear some screaming about how "IT's TOO LOUD". At least with my kids.

I like the Durango! It has great driving dynamics and is fun to drive! Not sure on long term reliability, might be great, might be terrible.

Great video! It's crazy the Tow n Go Durango has higher tow rating than my ram 1500 5.7 crew cab 4wd rated at 7900lb with 3.21 gear. Wonder if it would tow better than the ram? I am towing a 28ft travel trailer weighing 5500ish loaded and 600lb TW. Rams payload is only 1320 as well. What is the TNG Durango listed at? And what was your MPG towing? I get around 9.5ish towing and 22 hwy not towing Great video!!

Thanks for sharing! I believe the Durango Tow N Go has nearly the same payload as your truck at around 1300 lbs. I was in the 9 mpg range. This trailer has the worst fuel mileage of any trailer I've driven. It has an incredible amount of wind resistance. My guess is that your Ram is heavier, longer, and wider, all of which help to make it more stable for towing.

Nice video Last week I finally got a chance to test my 21 Durango RT TNG with Passport 2670, 29 feet total length, 6200 lb, 700+ hitch as loaded. I still used WD and 2 sway bars. The vehicle exceeded expectations, especially on our way back when we got head and side wind @25-30 mph. I new that this wind would be rough for my previous TV, a 2011 Mercedes ML, and was even thinking to stay for another day, so the wind will calm down. But Durango remained rock solid, with no sway, not to mention white knuckle episodes. Weight of the vehicle and stiff suspension can do miracles, no questions about it. This Durango can be compared only to 3/4 ton trucks, in my opinion. And it can take 1600- 1700 lb of payload if you don't go by the door sticker but by real weight specs. I am looking forward to upgrade my RV to a slightly better and heavier one, but not longer.

Glad it's treating you well. I'd put it more on par with a 1/2 ton truck than a 3/4, but it does tow better than I expected!

Hi Eugene. It's been a year since you posted this and are wondering how it's been going for you with the RV? Looking to purchase a tow vehicle to tow a Grand Design XLS 17MKE (21 ft, 4674 lb dry, 480 lb hitch) and I am getting conflicting info online. Some say it's fine, others say it's not. I really don't want to buy a pickup truck if I don't have to so I'm hoping the Durango can pull this trailer. I'd rather hear from someone with real-world experience rather than spreadsheet calculators. Thanks!

@Andy Saputo . Since that time we 1. Went from South Florida to Michigan and back with the Passport. The trip was very smooth except delaminated 2 Passport tires. 2. We upgraded the Passport to 2022 Grand Design Imagine 2800, which is 2 feet longer and about 1300 lb heavier with about the same factory hitch weight of 600 lb. We upgraded the hitch to Curt Trutrack as well, it's much stronger and heavier, and does not use friction bars. We went on several trips, the longest was to Dillard, GA area. The Durango behaves totally flawlessly, I don't even feel passing 18 wheelers! I don't even have to allow them to pass. The combo is stable at any speed, but gas milage really sucks if you go over 65. So, my Durango is loaded to the max, but it's up to the task, be it Passport or Imagine, which is a much better trailer, with higher quality materials, 2 ACs and 50 amp power. So far, DD got 33k miles on the clock in about 18 months, zero issues. You can tow your prospective trailer with pretty much anything, including V6 Durango. I don't know how big your family is. If your TV is full of people, you may not have any room for a TT. But for 3 of us, things work pretty well.

Are there no flaps in exhaust to make it quite in non Sport modes?
@EngineAdventures
@EngineAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of. None of the Drive modes changed the exhaust note.
@TheCondoInRedondo
@TheCondoInRedondo 3 жыл бұрын
Nope. The exhaust is static. It's actually a "performance" exhaust with deeper growl compared to the standard exhaust of the R/Ts without the Tow-n-Go suspension. I'm currently driving a 2019 R/T with the standard tow package and that exhaust is not at all annoying. If you don't require the special adjustable suspension, then consider a regular R/T. That tow package is $1200 compared to the Tow-n-Go package at $5000. Same payload rating, but tow rating drops to 7200 pounds from 8700. The brakes are a bit smaller and you lose the SRT suspension. But you still get auto-leveling rear suspension along with the quieter exhaust plumbing. Alex Dykes says he regularly tows 8000 plus with his 2018 Citadel with no problem. That said, he does use a weight distibution hitch.

A good weight distribution hitch, like the Equal-i-zer brand, makes a huge difference. I was surprised at how well this towed without weight distribution, but I'd still recommend WD.

Does this fair better at towing than a Tahoe ?
@EngineAdventures
@EngineAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
I've had no problems towing with either of them, however I'd guess the Tahoe might be a little more stable at the limits because it's heavier. There are a lot of things that play into stability and maybe the stiff suspension of the Tow N Go makes up for its weight deficit, but having a heavier tow vehicle is one of the bigger factors in my opinion.

I actually needed to flip the ball mount over so it was in the rise position. I think I ended up with 2" of rise. If you mean how much did the suspension settle from the trailer tongue weight, I didn't measure, but it wasn't enough to cause issues.

Thank you for the response, I'm headed to pick up a camper tomorrow and I have a straight hitch. It's around 3400lbs with a 400lb tongue weight. I guess if I'm not happy with the way it is I can stop on my way back and get a different reciever.

So 5k about max for a trailer - With the Durango rated 8700 pound rated towable?
@EngineAdventures
@EngineAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Depends a lot on the trailer. Full size travel trailers have a very high center of gravity and huge frontal area. This thing would tow 8,700 no problem if it were a flat bed trailer with low and heavy stuff on it.

10% of 8,700 pounds is literally 870 pounds. You can’t even do basic math right my guy. You’re giving these tips but don’t even do the math right. Gotta work on that.

I think one of us missed something, but I definitely mispeak sometimes. This trailer weighs around 4650lbs - 4900lbs depending on how it's loaded, (I didn't rewatch the video so I don't know the exact weight at that time). The tongue weight is generally between 450 and 530, again depending on how it's loaded. I'm guessing I said 470 tongue weight in the video referring to the actual trailer I'm towing, but if you add a time stamp I'm happy to rewatch that portion and clarify for you.
