I remember the Honda CBR600's. Many of my friends owned them and I rode a couple a few times. Those CBRs were terrific motorcycles. It appears that the Honda made sure that the current CBR650 is true to its heritage! Enjoyed the review.

I did a test ride on the Honda CBR 650R yesterday. A great, light, powerful and well-balanced bike indeed. The only negative was that I had to really up the revs to get it moving along in the lower gears.

Took one out yesterday on a test ride in the glorious heat we had, and it was magnificent to ride, if a bit jolty on the gear changes (but that might have just been me getting used to the bike still). It was the first sports bike I've ever tried and safe to say I will be trying more as time goes on!

I think this bike makes more sense when you know where it comes from. It's a sporty, faered version of a bike that currently occupies the place the Hornet used to be in. Having said that I don't think this bike is bad in any way, it'll be reliable, that engine is not a new piece of kit, has been tested, it looks the part, maybe more than its nature would allow it to be. Not complaining, this looks head and shoulder better than most true sportbikes.

I have the predecessor the CBR650f and use it for all types of riding, even rode 300 miles with only one stop for fuel then straight back on the road, got off the bike felling fresh and no aches or pains. Bought the bike 5 years ago (a month before I passed my test) and still love it.

I had a 2016 CBR650, nice bike super competent all rounder. Sporty enough and comfortable enough to do 500km (ish) days on it every day for 2 weeks straight with out ruining your back. But the thing that drove me utterly nuts was a vibration in the dash that was audible over the engine and road noise between 30kph and 50kph, it was seriously loud and the dealership was never able to fix it. Such a small thing but over the years it just made me fall out of love with the bike.

Glad it's not just me thinking that. Those were practical and reasonably tractable bikes that could be ridden sedately or to scare the wits out of you, with equal enjoyment. Even before the Cat, I had two FZ600s. People rave about their RD350LCs - I feel the same about the FZ. It was hilarious fun and the handling flattered my meagre skills. Good days! 👍

Glad you liked it, great review. Bought mine in 2019 for £6500 with just 850 miles on the clock from a Honda dealer. Front end and LED lights look great. Cant beat a middleweight four cylinder. Unbeatable for the price point at the age and mileage. Put a tail tidy on mine but no other mods. Will stick some Pirelli DR 2’s when it’s due tyres. Again, no wind buffet for me at all speeds, superb.

Thanks for sharing your experience and purchase details! I have been looking at 2021 Cbr650r and see them with similar milage to what you stated for a similar price which is 2.5k less than new! Do you know how it is that yours had such low milage? And did you have any extra warranty added?
@grahamhiggins1
@grahamhiggins1 2 жыл бұрын
@@luxorcephrenSE23 Hi, there was a one year warranty left of the original 3 as it was just two years old. I chose not to buy the extended warranty and service package from the Honda dealer due to the extra cost, plus the bike is bulletproof tbh. I think the first owner just didn’t take to biking or the bike, or had several bikes, as he must have hardly used it. It was easy to see the mileage was genuine too.

$10.9k CAD here in the great white North. Not bad at all considering an r7 which in lot of areas in the states are 700-900$USD cheaper than the Honda, but it’s only $100 CAD cheaper here so was a no brainer for me to go with cbr. Although think j would pay that premium anyways . Love it

Unfortunately that has got too heavy (i'm now 66 with a bad back), top heavy mainly so I'm swapping it for the new 2021 NC750x. Had a test ride but waiting ages for delivery! Nice review as ever. I've had my CBR650R for two years now and I'm very happy with it. It's a sure footed, fun bike with, as you said, enough power for the road. The vibration disappears over time. I have 7,000 miles on the clock now and it's a smooth ride. As for the ugly back end, a tail tidy may seem a good idea, but in practice the spray goes all over you and swamps the electronics under the seat., so I put the original unit back on.

The weather is to cold and wet here to make a tour. Next week looks a little bit better; fingers crossed New tires always feel like riding in ice; it takes about 60 miles before it gets safer. It seems riders in the UK prefer naked and sports bikes. Here in the Netherlands they prefer allroad, cross over and naked bikes. I like mirrors that are in front of my hands; much better view behind you. It’s a Honda so it probably has combined brakes. The back brake works very well because one brake cylinder? of the front brakes is also working.

It looks like an ideal sports bike for road usage. I've often though the sweet spot for most bikes is 90-120bhp, anything more is overkill really here in the U.K. in the land of speed cameras. The only thing I've found with some smaller CC (4cyl) bikes is a (comparative) lack of torque makes riding more tiresome compared to bigger bikes where you can ride at low revs through towns/cities/congested areas at low revs with no dramas.
@jared123123
@jared123123 2 жыл бұрын
Have you ridden the cbr650r yet? Curious as to how you personally find the torque lower on. IMO compared to the others in its direct class like ninja650 they have little more grunt for sure having the twin cyclinders engine but it really wasn’t that noticeable over the Honda. Dyno numbers only get like 3-4 ft lbs torque advantage on the twins. I’m a fairly new rider and don’t have experience on litre bikes etc so don’t know what stupid power feels like but it feels plenty easy and fast for stoplight to stoplight city stuff
@LeeXRV
@LeeXRV 2 жыл бұрын
@@jared123123 I’m not suggesting anything is wrong with a 600 but generally the 4 cylinder motors make power high in the rev range and are often a bit lack lustre at the bottom of the rev range and reving them out isn’t that easy without a long straight. Bigger bikes generally make far more torque at the bottom of the rev range and bikes like mine (S1000RR) are rapid even at low revs and just keep getting strong right around until the rev limiter (14.5k). In city riding at slower speeds and in many places like junctions and round abouts it’s massively advantageous to have power everywhere as it gives you options to brake or accelerate out of trouble, it also allows for relaxed riding and dare I say it lazy riding (my S1000RR is fine at 15mph in 3rd and can reach somewhere north of 125mph in the gear so you can just not worry to much about changing). The BMW boxer engines are great at low revs and has stonking acceleration at almost any revs. Dare I say it but Harley’s do the same, they don’t make much peak power but they are damn quick off the line and can accelerate hard at almost any revs. I think many sports based 600’s do their best work at the track where you can hold high revs everywhere but that being said there’s nothing wrong with them either in day to day use.

Love the looks. That up curved seat looks like a nutcracker though. I had the new katana for 10 days, same seat....owww. heavy braking squashed the chap's. You don't sound like you're in the choir so must be good. Great video BTW. Will you be getting the new GSXS 1000? Really want your review on that.

What a great ride on this wonderful hooligan bike. I would like one. So delightful for blasting along and arriving at work with a grin on my face. So just for single ladies and gents then, absolutely not a Top Box, Tank Bag and Panniers cruiser, so we aren't going to see Mrs Flyer on this bike. Honda stick faithfully to the 4 while the Malaysian goes for 3, which actually sounds better. But the Honda will last for ever, unlike the other! This beautiful bike proves yet again that 650cc is a perfect weight / size / balance / performance machine. So envious.

Strikes me like a decent ressurection of the 90s CBR600Fs which people were clamoring for for years. A comfy do-it-all street sportsbike. I wonder how well it sells. If I had extra change I think I would be tempted with RS660 over this because it's more sexy and sporty but I see nothing wrong with this bike at all. Long time no comment, I need to start be more active in the comment box. Good to see you mr. Flyer :)

Boy-oh-boy that Honda truly peaked my interest. Definitely on the short list. Knew you’d get around to finding my next new bike, if ever I can afford it. I know it amazingly priced, still kinda hard to pull off multiple bikes in the garage. And “at least it’s not a white van”. 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎

Another good vid thanks, although the crud on a brand new bike made me sad. Interesting on that bypass that cars generally keep left in the left hand lane, leaving room to overtake in the same lane. Is that a rule or just courtesy?

@robbieracer3294
@robbieracer3294 3 жыл бұрын
I've ridden both..the Aprilia wins in my book. This CBR is fun, but it's like comparing a Ford Mustang v6 with a Mustang Shelby Cobra. For the extra money of the 660, it's worth every penny. You get performance, all the bells and whistles and styling. The 650, you get performance..but that's where it stops. The 650 is great for sure, but if you're deciding between the two..go with the 660..it just does it all and then some

Mr F I’m new to the channel and have been catching up, cracking reviews and content. I currently do not have my licence, next spring is my target, I’m a 40 something looking for my first bike experience and quite frankly am a bit overwhelmed by the sheer choice of bike and style! Which of all the mid range bikes, styles etc would you recommend? I love the look of the sports bikes but being closer to 50 need comfort! This CBR650r seems to be one of the best first rides I’ve seen you do in terms of what you think of the bike, would this be a contender? I have no interest in loony speeds but do want a bit of fun! Thanks again for the content!

Most people likely wouldn’t agree but I wish it came with integrated mirror signals and scrapped the pointy front ugly signals even if I had to pay a touch more. Rear signals taken care of easy with a tail tidy and integrated aftermarket brake light. That’s my only complaint about appearance. Rear seat angle would look better if it was higher like a cbr600rr but there is obviously practical reasons for it and not a deal breaker at all

So you swapped the Proverbial "White Vans" for Police vans hehe. Thanks for the review, it seems this Honda is as good as it looks - no surprises thank goodness, and what a bargain price too. I really enjoy your style and content in these vids, the work you must put in really shows. I must say that sports bikes don't affect my back or wrists like they do some people maybe it's my lower stature, but then often the seat height gets me. I intend to try a mid-size sports bike (Street Triple etc) soon so maybe I need to add the CBR650R to the list. :>)
