Hey, I see the lever by the steering wheel, can you flip it to drive and just go without using the foot shift or do you have to use the foot shift?
@quentonsmith60852 жыл бұрын
@@Schepshiesty The lever by the handlebars is for 4wd and 2wd selection. Foot shift always.
@billalbion2 жыл бұрын
That instruction is for drivers who have no feel or understanding for their machines. It's safe to change into 4wd as long as both axles are turning at the same speed, ie. not when back axle is spinning as in mud and front axle is stopped, that would be a gear stripping exercise. I do understand that some poor folk can hardly blow their nose without a instruction book.
@PickupsAreNotTrucks2 жыл бұрын
@@billalbionWell, you may be right, but as a diesel mechanic when I’m not driving truck… if you care about your machine, you probably should listen to what the book has to say. They design the machine a certain way and tell you how to use it within the guidelines of how it was designed. I’ll stop and switch to 4x4, it takes only a few seconds. You do what you want with yours.
@billalbion2 жыл бұрын
@@PickupsAreNotTrucks I respect your views, but as a long time farm user mostly pulling sheep, feed and stock trailers on Scottish border hills, I find a great saving in time slipping into 4wd when coming off hard road into soft muddy fields with no I'll effects on this 420 Eps Manuel with 3640 miles on clock coming up to 2yo in Feb. I think this is fifth Honda plus one Yamaha, 3 Kawasaki's over about a 30 year period, all excellent machines, but Honda the best and most economical having no belt drag in transmission. Never had any transmission problems on any of these machines using the change into 4wd on the move. I may be a professional high mileage operator which helps as on ATV every day, but I'm not perfect by any means.

I want it. Edit: Honda still uses straight axles because they have a greater tow capacity compared to IRS and it is also less likely to break.
@Anonymouso2834 жыл бұрын
Both of those statements are incorrect. Well, kinda. The rancher can tow like 800 pounds or something while on the other hand, the Yamaha Kodiak 450, with independent rear suspension, can tow like 1300 pounds. So it’s just based on the weight, the center of gravity, etc. that come into play. And with the IRS breaking, that is damn near impossible to do. Yes, I do agree, the straight axel will be more durable, but don’t think that IRS breaks all the fucking time. It doesn’t. I’ve had many machines with IRS, and I’ve done big ass jumps with both straight axel, and IRS, and none, I repeat, none have broke.
@noahguy5624 жыл бұрын
Italian Stallion I see what you are saying, but in my experience, straight axles while they may not be as great when it comes to nice plush suspension they do seem to be much more convenient, useful, and durable for utility use. Plus, if the vehicle is exactly the same, except for the rear axle, then a straight axle will pull more, for instance the Rancher with the straight axle will have a greater tow capacity than the same year/style/generation/make of Rancher that has an Independent Rear Suspension. But thank you for your input, I do realize that the difference is small, and both a straight axle suspension and IRS are very tough and very durable, and they can very well pull their own weight and then some, and then some more. But like I mentioned I have had better luck with straight axle quads for utility use than quads with IRS. Now if I’m going for a comfy trial ride or a hard, full throttle, put it to the limit ride, IRS is preferable. Thanks again, if you have any other thoughts please share.
@Anonymouso2834 жыл бұрын
@Noah Guy Thanks man. I would’ve thought you’d be a sour puss, and be all pissed off at me for having my own personal thoughts and opinions. I say this because I have ran into a lot of pissed off people while I try to state my opinion. You surely proved me wrong. Anyway, yes, I’m more of the plush, utilitarian guy. I do minimal work with my quads, and then again, I love to be extremely comfortable say on trail rides. But if I were the type of guy that uses my quads for absolute hard work, where I can beat on it, wouldn’t care for comfort, wouldn’t care for maintenance, then straight axel would be the absolute way to go. But, like I said, since I’m the type of guy that loves my ass and back to be comfortable, while doing medium to minimal work, I would always go for IRS.
@noahguy5624 жыл бұрын

With something like 8 trim levels for the Rancher, which do you normally recommend? Specifically do you lean toward the floor shifter highlighted here or are the dct and es models worth a look?
@BrickNick9313 жыл бұрын
I personally like the ES it’s really what you want the DCT is nice if you just wanna put it in gear then drive and not have to worry about shifting so much. The es I think is nicer if you want to plow with and can be easier to use than the foot-shift. You don’t need power starting on a rancher unless your off-roading hitting rocks or maybe have trouble with pull the bars like a week arm or something

@BrickNick9312 жыл бұрын
Honestly I wouldn’t recommend trying to change it. Unless you know what you are doing and getting into. A dealer would not do that void the warranty. Better off seeing if u could trade it for a Es which isn’t much more than the foot shift or can do the DCT which is even more. Would be a wait to get an es or DCT but could be done. Sorry to hear about your leg. If wanna chat more call Charlie and ask for Nick “me” I could give you more info on those options.

You do not need a rancher with power steering. However it does have its pros but you are paying for it. If someone has a handy cap and doesn’t have as much arm muscle it can be beneficial or doing a lot of off roading on rocky trails you don’t get as much feedback in the bars. But turns in general are easy and don’t need power steering for

The trx 250x is slower than a rancher for sure a rancher has a 420cc engine vs a 250cc in the 250 but the rancher motor is also fuel injected which makes a huge power difference on top of that, the rancher you can do basically everything with off road to plowing driveways in the winter so you can’t go wrong with a rancher
