@@RFRP I have Pakistani high flyers pigeons. Pakistani high Flyers are known for their impressive flying endurance and agility, and they typically fly in a radius around their home loft for extended periods. This means they fly in a circular pattern, often reaching heights of several hundred feet, and can cover distances of up to 1-5 kilometers (0.6-3.1 miles) or more during their flights. Some exceptional birds have been known to fly for up to 8-10 hours or more. Their flying timing usually starts early in the morning, around 6-8 am, and can last until 2-4 pm. I can give you some if you’re wanting to fly them. But they are not homing birds so you can’t pair them with homing pigeons.

I put my young pigeons on the outing much earlier. I put them in the young animal loft at 21-23 days, and at 25 days they sit outside on the excursion for the first time. So you can save yourself the cage and the boys sit on the trip for a good 7 days before they even try to fly to the roof. So you don't lose any young pigeons at the house. They also learn to jump in on their own and since they are not yet able to fly properly, at that age they can also be driven very carefully and with a lot of calm by flying into the loft

How long do you leave them sitting on the excursion each time?
@dirkvoges6218
@dirkvoges6218 2 жыл бұрын
@@victoriafulton3042 They first sit outside on the landing board at 25-29 days of age. After about a week they will all gradually fly towards the roof of the dovecote. And after another week to 10 days they will then gradually explore the surroundings of the dovecote. They then start flying.

I know pigeon respond well to sounds (whistle). But could they also respond to a visual? I had an idea of flashing a red light when feeding them and flashing the light at the trap to make them know it's time to come back. The idea is to make them come to the trap faster after flight even if i'm not there to whistle or if they come home before me. Do you think it would work?
@RFRP
@RFRP 3 жыл бұрын
Hey that is a really interesting idea! Pigeons rely more on sight than sound so I don’t see why that wouldn’t work. High fliers (different pigeon breed) will fly 10+ hours even into the night; their handlers signal for them to come down and trap by turning on bright lights. Thanks for sharing your insight!

Good training...do u think training a young bird would be easier to let them out on first flight with older trained birds as i always use to do this as they learn very quick going out with older experienced birds..?
@RFRP
@RFRP 2 жыл бұрын
I definitely think letting the youngsters out with a few old birds is ideal. The old birds know the routine and the young birds seem to learn from them some. I had two OBs with my youngsters this year and they learned how to fly in a flock SOOOO much faster than last year.

Hiya At what age do you take the young ones away from the nest / parents or do you incubate and hand raise. Your birds are very tame and I would like some tips on how what age to start taking them from the nest, ie what age is weaning usually. Cheers from NSW, Australia Ps I’m 4 hrs drive north from Melbourne where you used to live😊
@dirkvoges6218
@dirkvoges6218 2 жыл бұрын
If you want to have tame and calm pigeons, you start with the youngsters in the nest. I ring my pigeons when they are 6-7 days old. From this point on, I also clean the nest cell every day. That means the boys see me every day and I also hold them in my hands every day, so you get used to the hands of people. In addition, the nest cells should now be open so that the young can see the whole room from their nest cell. That's how they see me every time I enter the dovecote. From the age of 14 days I also put a small bowl with food in the cell, so they also learn to eat independently because I put them in the young animal compartment at the age of 21-23 days.

Hey that’s pretty close! 🇦🇺 The advice given by the viewer is quite good. Handling them in the nest each day once their eyes open is good. I usually take them out of their nest box and put them on the floor if the loft around 20-22 days. I will put them in the young bird section around 28-30 days; that’s older than most fanciers do it. If you are trying to tame older birds the best advice I can offer is to hand feed them. I do that with my young bird team each year and it really seems to help them learn to not fear my hands or me being in close proximity to them. Good luck and keep me posted!!
