Am I alone in being floored by the new Jeep? Never thought Jeep could hang with the luxury brands. This Summit Reserve trim can make a Lincoln shopper look twice!

You're not alone! I took a GCL for a test drive not really seriously considering a Jeep to replace my old VW Touareg (I've been a German or Japanese car guy for years). I kept saying, "this is an AMERICAN car?" I test drove about 16 SUVs the past 3 weeks, and the GCL is staggeringly good in comparison. Yes, Merc, BMW, Lexus, and Audi are fabulously made, but every little option adds to the cost. I think Jeep took a queue from Kia/Hyundai and their Telluride/Pallisade SUVs, and have delivered a product. And yes, I have ordered a GCL (with the V8). :)

I picked my GCL SR over an Aviator. The McIntosh sound system and infrared camera are amazing!

@@jonathanstrater903 you get your ride yet? How's the fuel economy been on the v8? I've order the summit reserve in white but went v6. I can't make up my mind if that was a mistake or not, but for only towing my side by side a handful of times a year, the 6 should be fine.

@@jasonhiggins605 you're very sweet to remember! I pick it up next week. Despite Jeep's "guarantee" that chips were available to get my GCL completed by September, it never happened. I'll repost when I have some mpg numbers, although I confess I'm not looking forward to the trips to the pump with the V8 with gas prices on the rise. My diesel Reg has been a consistent 28mpg despite my aggressive driving style. We shall see (and perhaps we need to meetup and compare!)

@@jonathanstrater903 I just placed my order about two weeks ago. Summit Reserve in white but with the v6. I'm not in love with the 6 but for the handful of times a year I tow a side by side the year round fuel economy will be worth it. That interior is second to none!

At first, I was intimidated by all of the options and buttons this trim level has, but after having one for 2 months, I absolutely love it and I have become accustomed to my long drive massages. 🥰

This Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim is very nice. Definitely luxury status. This trim level along with the other five trims will do well in overall sales. Two features which wasn't mentioned in this video and was equipped with the Summit Reserve trim are the hands free foot activated lift gate and the night vision camera. The night vision camera couldn't get demonstrated in the video due to being in day light, but at least to say something about it though. The hands free foot activated lift gate is nice. Just walk up to the vehicle with the key fob on you, do a kicking motion with your foot and that's it. The lift gate opens. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the high trim Summit Reserve will match up well with the new generation Acura MDX in the high trim Advance. Both trim levels have very close identical prices. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L would be the winner due to having few more features and more engine powertrain choices. The one clear advantage the Jeep Grand Cherokee L has over the MDX and other luxury mid-size 3rd row seating SUVs is overall flexibility. Flexibility for the trim levels available (six), flexibility for the engine powertrains, the audio system, adjusting the height of the vehicle, the size infotainment screen, the available USB ports (6 USB ports & 6 USB-C ports) and more.

Definitely luxury status, but for $70k it needs the Hemi as standard. The 3.6 pentastar is a fine engine, totally acceptable for most uses, but once you get into that $65-70k price range, 290 hp starts looking pretty low compared to the X7, Q7, Discovery, etc.

I will say I am impressed. I have never (since the mid-1990s) seen a JGC that I would call "luxury". At the $60K mark I was really a fan of the Caddy XT6 Sport but with this new GC available with the 5.7 Hemi V8 (something you cannot get on the Caddy) it resolves my #1 problem with the XT6---lack of "Caddy" level power. This with the V8 to me is a slam dunk.

as of 5 day's ago I picked up my 2021 fully-loaded $71,065 HEMI V8 Jeep Grand-Cherokee L Summit Reserve as a first car after getting my full driver's license, mine has the black exterior just like this one and has the black interior instead of the tan, also my car was custom ordered off of Jeep's website, just FYI I'm 20 year's old.

If you look inside the grill in the first slot on the driver side there should be another camera which is for night vision

100× better than anything I've heard come out of a factory-installed system and even some custom sets. Bose, H/K, Infinity, Boston Acoustics, B&O, Alpine, JBL, Bower & Wilkins, and Sony it's better than any of those. The only one's that I've never heard yet are ones like Burmester and Nakamichi.

Volvo xc90 would be a very very close comparison. T6 Inscription is the same price as this, its interior while more simple, still very luxurious. But there are more luxury 3 rows way under 6 figures that this can be compared to, like the bmw x7 , Audi q7 , q8 or Mercedes gls. Pentastar and hemi are great engines, neither is as modern or updated as the volvos, bmws,or mercedes’s engine options. That said, this a super welcome addition to Jeep, but with this price they really need to be compared to the top luxury suvs not the fords, kias, chevys and hyundais.

Jeep has always occupied a weird blurred line between luxury and mainstream, and think that's why many have a tough time quantifying the GC. Jeep doesn't bill it as a luxury ride, yet it puts Range Rover level of leather and wood in the vehicle for $30k less. Sure, the engines are older, but after visiting the Volvo(especially), BMW, and MB owners forums, I'll take the slower but more reliable options. As for the Audi and other luxury marques, you don't get this type of interior with them for $66k. An Audi Q7 Prestige costs nearly $80k and its 3.0L V6 performance isn't startling, and it is smaller on the inside...and can't hope to keep up with the Jeep when the tough gets going.

@@hellkitty1014 I agree with most of what you said, GC is definitely occupying a weird blurred line between luxury and mainstream but that price is creeping up. Its just a hair below $70K with the hemi. 70K would definitely put it against the European luxuries, and I also agree Audi is behind especially compared to volvo, bmw, and Merc. Even the new genesis gv80 is kind of in this category and maybe the Lincoln aviator as well. Im just trying to point it out that while on low-end it does start around 40K the summit reserve does need to be treated and compared to these cars not mainstreams.

The Chrysler engines are some of the very few available that are still port injected, saving you from carbon build-up on your intake valves, the bane of DGI engines.

The reserve has everything basically added on. The standard summit sodium you to remove some options. That's it.

I test drove it yesterday, it feels the road and jerky transmission just like my Cherokee 2015, i love the interior and true 6 adults seats if offers. i would buy it for the space and the opulent interior. The ride quality was no where near the Volvo i drove 2 hrs later.

I think it's pathetic that they would put a 3.6 in a summit model i mean come on at least give it a turbo with the 3.6 It's supposed to be top trim level it's actually pretty Is disrespectful to the Jeep Grand Cherokee summit reserve to slap a 3.6 foreign engine. In my opinion there should have been a 6.4 in there we're in there if it's supposed to be top luxury trim level it should be trim level that being said it should be standard with a 5.7 and nothing less.

I test drove the Summit Grand Cherokee L and the air conditioning when on 7 which is the highest setting was barely able to be felt on my face as I was driving as well as sitting still. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Either user error or it was broken. I've test driven an Overland and Summit Reserve and neither of them did that.

Trailhawk uses that button for its swaybar disconnect. Auto-hold is a setting in the infotainment system, my 2020 KL Trailhawk had autohold.

Good, but not German level of a true luxury SUV and certainly not even close in performance and ride. The top dogs from BMW and MB are really 4 steps higher on every level than what the GCL is in the market. Jeep did a great job for a “near luxury” level vehicle. Jeep leather is low grade and interior materials are average domestic level. Not even close to the big boys in the true high end luxury SUV’s.

Not to mention everyone said that exact thing about the XJ and ZJ when those came out. "Oh that's not a REAL Jeep" and "Jeep is going down the tubes with this new Cherokee". Jeep would've been killed off without the XJ or ZJ by 2004. The new modern Jeeps are easily more capable stock for stock and pound for pound than any old Jeep save for TJ Rubicon.
