Wondering if you'll fit on a Ninja 1000? Here's my thoughts on the 2021 Ninja 1000 SX, as a 180 cm rider, with 32 inch inseam.
While the Ninja 1000 SX has a 835 mm seat height, I'd still say it's an inviting machine, especially for a sports-tourer. Apart from a great balance and centre of gravity (CoG), the seat design is narrow and sporty towards the tank, ensuring an easy reach to the ground. The raised 'bars also ensure an upright seating position, with a tall tank and plenty of wind protection from the adjustable screen and wide fairings.
All in all, a great sports touring machine, which offers a fun, powerful engine, sportsbike-like style and touring comfort.
To demo ride the 2021 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX contact or head in to MotoHub Motorcycles in Castle Hill in Sydney. A big thanks to them for letting me quick test the bike! Their details are below:

I bought one, a touring version, a few months ago and I can honestly say it’s absolutely brilliant. I’ve added some mods, an Arrow end can, tail tidy, smoked screen, seat cowl and a Garmin satnav system and it looks fantastic as well as goes like the wind. The quick shifter works really well once you get to know it, the heated grips are a God send in UK cold weather and the screen gives me great adjustability. If in doubt, don’t worry, just buy one you won’t be disappointed. Cheers

Kawasaki hit a huge home run with this motorcycle. You get all kinds of cool technology and performance at a great price, especially for someone that doesn’t want a monster like the ZX-14 or something they may outgrow to quickly like a ZX-6

Great insight Kris. I like how you always mention you height, weight and inseam (when most don’t) as it does help put it into perspective for all other riders at the opposite ends of the spectrum. I’ve always liked that sound out of an in-line 4 from team green (going back to the early 90’s). For me, this would be ideal possibly in another 10 or so years when I’m about 60. As I still don’t do much touring. My limits are about a tank in a day, once a week. 👍😎😘

I hope it's of some use, I know it can be really hard to figure out what works for different size riders. I know what you mean too, doing the longer trips can be such a time commitment, on top of everything else, and you really want to be doing the mileage to justify the bike!

Lady rider here - 5’4” - 30” inside Leg, 10stone . Lust racing lowering kit added and I can hold it up on just my tippy toes :) weight through legs nicely to pegs. Nice riding position with Clipons, goes like F and plenty of space to scoot back and tuck in. I have small hands so adjusted levers to 5. Quick shifter better over 2400 revs and smooth. Get the performance pack with the Carbon akro 👌🏻

Great video! Yes we all love different looks for our bikes. I am 72 yo. And added the Ninja 1000 SX to my stable to cover Sport Touring which I still like to do . I love the look of my Ninja 1000SX. I made it my own with. Akro full exhaust, motor cage “somewhere to occasionally Stretch my legs on long rides”, bar risers, adjustable foot pegs, taller wider screen, Corbin seat, hard bags, mirror risers. Fork lights etc.

The KLRs have a great reputation and are a good choice for getting a bit more adventurous. It's nice having that flexibility to basically go anywhere, especially for a trip like that! There's some amazing places you can visit that you definitely only get to on something like the KLR.

Kris. how did you find the comfort of the seat after a while? I'm finding the recent models of Ninjas and Versys seem to have very firm seats. Hell, even the old Ninjas have firm seats. Then there's the high footpegs, relative to the seat. It is a sports-touring bike, I suppose, and maybe there's not much difference in that department, say with a Tracer 9 GT, for example. Videos like this help potential buyers become better informed before hitting the dealerships. That's a good thing. Keep 'em coming.
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say on the firm side of things seat wise (for a tourer), although the high footpegs help as if you've got some nice twisties you move around on the bike a little more, taking the weight off somewhat and helping get some blood flow back. It definitely wasn't that full touring lounge chair-like comfort, but the cut and design of the seat is more that compromise between sport and touring. There was some nice give in the seat too when I tested it by hand, however after a couple of hours I was ready for a quick break. Definitely better than the Ninjas though!

New Tracer has adjustable height foot pegs…More crouched on the Kwaka in the first place. They’re very different to ride but both great, I prefer the tracer, for me it’s a better position for touring, lighter in feel and a bit more fun on those days…Arn’t we lucky we have two great choices !
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 3 жыл бұрын
@@douglasalexander4348 I haven't tested the new Tracer yet but that was certainly the case with the old one, it had that more upright touring/adventure ergonomic which stretches you out a bit more.

Hi Kris, I currently own a 2017 N1K and have loved it… it is a great bike. I have been thinking about a change and I very much like the classic look of the z900RS, which you recently reviewed…(good review btw). I was wondering what your thoughts were in regards to comparing these two bikes for the three main things that interest Me? 1. Fun factor. 2. Handling. Have never really loved the N1K in this regard… and 3. Feeling of Power (Vs. on paper power claims)…. I like to keep a swift pace on country roads.Cheers mate.
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 3 жыл бұрын
I do reckon the Ninja 1000 handling is majorly improved over when I last tested one, so you might find there's a nice difference there, but I'd lean towards the Z900RS with those criteria. The benefit of the Ninja is you're going to be much more comfortable at a swift pace on the country roads, especially doing long distance.

Tryed today. Too much wind around the body. The glassess are far to adjust while driving. After a while knee and legs hurt. The position is more sport than tourer (i come from gsxr 1000 k7)the Versys is way better for touring. I felt really relaxed. The Z series sx is a naked with covers and bags. Great engine ma the position expecially of the passenger is too little and hard for legs. Thanks for video .

Have a 2019 model prefer the exhaust style (both sides) appose to the single side exit exhaust on the 2021 model. The 2019 doesn’t sound too bad IMO maybe there exhaust change limits noise? Pros: great price (paid 10k new), pannier options, Good features and feels like a big bike pulling great in all gears Cons: could do with 160bhp or so. Seat isn’t great and comfort seat from Kawasaki is £300-350 10k is a good price compared to Ducati’s Ktms and BMWs etc but the price reflects as there’s no online etc or electronic suspension etc etc but great price

Until you ride one! I had an earlier model of this bike and that engine is just so smooth and so much torque from down low that it makes mile munching so relaxed. Overtaking other vehicles is just a light twist of the wrist, without ever having to change down a couple of gears. This bike is just a brilliant do it all road bike.

You could just add that the bike comes with a lower seat option as well, I think you can lower it somewhere between 8-28 mm (0.3-1.1 inches). I am 5'8'' (177 cm) with a 32'' inseam and I fit the taller seat too. In terms of seat comfort, the outer edges of the seat might become uncomfortable on the inside of your thighs after a couple of hours, but with fair roads I found that I can still do a 9 hour ride.
@MotoJournoKris

Would the rider fit on this be similar to a 2021 MT09? Particularly the seat to peg ratio.
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 2 жыл бұрын
I'd have said the ratio is similar, but the Ninja does have a wider/bigger seat, which will come into play there too. The 'bars are a tiny bit more aggressive on the Ninja too, but it's mainly the angle.

Would you consider this on the 400, 650 model level ? or would you consider this more like a full Touring bike? I'm thinking of getting one but not sure if its considered to be an "Old Man/Women" bike lol. I love my 400(Learning bike) not really wanting a Super sport for the cost and Insurance reasons, and my Friends 650 feels almost the same as my 400 just a bit more torque(y) not diff enough to jump to a 650
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris Жыл бұрын
These are enormous step up from the 400 and 650s, so definitely in the full touring or sports touring category there, and they've got quite the cult following and a great reputation overall, if maybe not the hype that we some some brands really cultivate. It probably depends who you talk to, I think the best group if you're interested in a bike is owners, often checking out a dedicated forum, rather than social media. You'll get to see the pros and cons of the bikes there, and any common mods or issues people face, often going back many model variants.
