I like this car, but I feel like the 5 seat version makes the most sense. To me this sort of car with a third row always seemed a little silly because it's basically for people who need a van, but would rather sacrifice a ton of practicality for a little style. However, I think they did a good job with the third row here, even if it's a bit cramped. Thanks for a great review, as always.

Again another impressive car! Well, nice of you to show us what the car has to offer, but stepping on the accelerator just ahead of two cop cars is brave......do this in Australia and wait for a flash from above / that was the hidden radar camera or if you went too fast you may have to say good bye to your drivers licence for 6 months. We noticed when driven by taxi to the hotel and we were not in a hurry enjoying the scenery, the driver was a bit heavy footed on the gas pedal and his GPS already screamed at him so it seems that is just fine while driving in Seoul - we know Korea is a very tolerant country and it's people are polite, friendly and helpful....as good as NO ROAD-RAGE and that makes it also fun to drive a car!

Great detailed review! It looks to be a very decent implementation of the hybrid. We would have appreciated more details regarding the 4x4 performance with hybrid implementation and cabin noise average in the city and on the highway.

Interior is good looking in general, except the vent. With all features and volume interior, it would be suite for family for sure. I would choose this car over Santa Fe for sure. Hopefully, all features are carried to US market. K5 for US version doesn’t full features as Korean ver. Little disappointed for that.

Thanks for great review. I've visited just today Kia's dealer (in Europe) to see new Sorento. It differs a bit from Korean's edition but also looks great. Version XL can easily compete with other 'premium' car brands. Will definitely purchase one really soon.

Great review as always. And yes, its about time they update the Kia emblem/logo. Car looks almost German but the logo gives it away. My choice would be the 1.6 Hybrid too vs the diesel.

Charlie: your mpg numbers are pretty astounding! For you highway mpg, what would you estimate the average mph to be? I assume those are converted to US gallons -- correct?

Totally agree about the logo needing a redesign already. Another aspect, apart from the design of the logo, Kia need to fix is the durability of the badge itself. The one on my wife’s Sportage delaminated so badly in year 6 of the 7 year warranty, that I requested the dealership (Kia Bulgaria) replace it. Shockingly I was charged the equivalent of 50 euro for the service. Not good at all! This is the car’s identity and they should replace a faulty, damaged badge for free and make sure they are way more durable. This is a small negative in an otherwise great client experience, so it is really unfortunate.

Is there any information how Long hybrids last past 250,000 miles and the cost to maintain after that point? Cost of ownership probably reverses and then isn’t worth even the gas savings vs regular gas engine? Nobody talks about this.

You know what I think of the logo.:) I think they should put the Nightfall blacked out logos on all their cars. It’s ridiculous the logo change is taking so long. Not only do they not leave the hold on, they also force the driver to turn off the auto start/stop.

What’s the towing capacity of the hybrid and what’s the fuel consumption of the hybrid model?

The Sorento 7 Passenger model for North American markets comes with a tether anchor in the second row of middle seats. This allows Americans to install children's carseats in the safest second row middle seating, while families of three children can install carseat 3 across in the safe 2nd row However, the 7 seater Sorento model for the Korean market has removed the tether anchor from the middle seat in the second row. It's because of cost reduction. The 7 seater Sorento for the Korean market has 2 pairs of latch systems applied to the 3rd row seats. However, families with three children can only install two child carseats on both sides of the second row and cannot enter the 3rd row if two carseats are installed in the 2nd row. By removing a very cheap metal tether anchor, Korean consumers with three children have to experience inconvenience. The U.S. market and the Korean market have differences in carseat fixings, and Korea is being discriminated against. everyone's life is precious.

For the US lineup, the hybrid only comes in front wheel drive which is disappointing. You have to get the plug in hybrid to get all wheel drive and that won't be available for a long time. Looks like I'll have to opt for the Hyundai Santa Fe as their US spec hybrid does have all wheel drive but no 3rd row which i don't really need I guess.

This is the SUV that I want later this year. I don’t think it’s avail in the US as of yet. I will take this over the Telluride.. mainly cuz of a hybrid system although the Telluride looks a little nicer. Faster than Telluride and about 35 mpg yeah baby!!

A hybrid with a direct injection small-displacement turbo seems a little sketchy. Those types of engines are already susceptible to oil dilution problems with short trips and colder climates (see the 1.5T in the CR-V) as well as carbon deposit buildup on the valves. This engine will get even less use with the hybrid system which might exacerbate the issues. Hyundai/Kia seem to recognize the issue by making the new base engine in the Sonata/K5 port and direct injection but haven't done it for their turbo engines. Ford redesigned their EcoBoost engines for dual injection after the first generation engines were just direct injection. Toyota even didn't bother with any direct injection only engines and went straight to dual injection with the engine they introduced in the latest Camry and RAV4. I have to believe Hyundai/Kia took this into account though, and they have that nice long warranty, but DI engines have inherent design flaws that can't help but make me a little nervous when used in hybrids

Watching from Bangladesh. Liked this car so much. i even talked with Kia Bangladesh but sad thing is that they are not willing to bring this hybrid model here in Bangladesh! They may bring 2.2 L Diesel model which will be too much expensive here because of our insane import tax.
