Hi Recipe for Success Viewers,
Today, we're trying to uncover the most underrated city for software developers or tech workers in general (ex. project managers, PMs, product managers, UX designers, etc). I know many of you are lured in by the idea of being a google project manager in California, but is that really the best city for tech workers?
The goal of this video is to try to find some data to answer the following questions:
1. Is moving to NYC or San Francisco still the best place for tech workers?
2. Are there other burgeoning tech hubs you should consider?
3. What is the best city for tech workers that provides the most value?
In this video I do a review of San Francisco, NYC, Austin, Minneapolis and Detroit to discuss the pros/cons on some of these underrated cities compared to popular tech hubs.
Note - I used software developer/developer engineer salaries here for companies, but you could search for other non-coding roles as well like project manager, program manager, pm, product manager or others.
I reviewed and rate each of these cities based on 4 main categories:
1. Salary for average SDE in these cities - I chose to compare this against the average salary for that city in general.
2. Taxation Rate for average SDE in these cities
3. COL for these cities and how that compared to your take home pay/rate
4. Activities - Would you want to even live there? Is there anything to do? Could any city really ever compare with San Francisco?
This video is somewhat in reaction to Bukola's latest video about why NYC is better than San Fran, but I want to encourage viewers to expand outside these two coastal cities! Tech hubs are popping up everywhere and you should consider checking it out!
