This video showcases a brand new 2021 Peterbilt 389 log truck equipped with a short logger "mule train" configuration. We'll take a ride to the woods, load some logs, get an overview of the truck and head back to the mill and unload. Enjoy the ride.

This is a cool video. Very different setup in configuration to our log Truck units here in New Zealand. I have a 4 axle truck towing a 5 axle trailer. International with 615hp x15 cummins. Total unit weight of 54ton , pay load of 37.5 ton. When unloaded we also piggy back our trailer.

I've seen some of those NZ rigs. Impressive. In the PNW we only run on-highway trucks and this configuration allows the flexibility to haul varying lengths of short logs and the maximum legal weight which is 105500 lbs gross. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Very nice set up, clean landing, clean truck. Light set up with the pederson gear. Only downside I can see is the way the trailer is when it is loaded, it will be a pain in the ass throwing chains on those front drivers come winter

Cool rigging for longs and shorts . We use a similar set up in BC Canada. You must have good traction on logging roads with those lift axles up👍

How do they off-load the log trailer in the woods? Didn’t see a gantry system like they had in the yard. Do they use the loader?
@elwellboy
@elwellboy 2 жыл бұрын
The log loader picks it off the truck. On this type of truck they lift off the trailer and set it aside while the truck is loaded and then lift the trailer back and hitch it to the truck and load it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

For many years the rear trailer for a mule train set up was just 2 axles, 1 front 1 back. In the last few years 3 axle trailers have been really big so you can get up to maximum weight and make more money. Suprisingly these pull very well, a lot better than when the tandem axles are in the back.
