Today on the channel we have a 4th generation SsangYong Korando, as a 2021 model year. This Korean built compact SUV has a 1.5L turbo petrol engine (but there is also a 1.6L diesel available), putting out 163hp and 260Nm of torque for this particular car, which has an automatic gearbox (the MT version has 280Nm).
The dynamic performance is quite good, although not impressive. The obvious bottleneck is the gearbox, imo. It's rather slow in changing gears and it shifts up too early (5.100-5.200 rpm). Even in manual mode the gearbox takes over around 5k rpms and shifts up. I'm pretty sure the car could be some good tenths of a sec quicker to 100 kmh with a better performing gearbox.

Please excuse the grainy look of the image in the exterior shots, my phone doesn`t do that great in low light. It seems i`ve waited for the "golden hour" a bit too much and only got to film in the last few minutes of that golden hour :-)

You are right, Aisin AT doesn't use lock-up on 1st and 2nd gear and shifted very early at 4500 rpm. Flex accel 80-120 is slow too, again because shift point at 5400 rpm. BTW, service documentation stated torque 280 Nm for manual and auto transmission too, not 280 for manual and 260 for auto.

Thanks for your comment! As for the torque values, i saw them (2 distinct values) on a car presentation brochure at the SsangYong dealer. I don't know exactly what service "documentation" is, but it may provide more accurate info than a marketing flyer :-)

Cant you use paddles to shift manually when you want ?

@@Chris-hw4mq You can, but in high rpm electronic will take control and shift up without Your intervention. Same in low rpm. So, You can't hit rpm limiter.
