2021 Starboard Wingboard Full Lineup Review

Stable. Stable. Stable.
We can't say it enough. The Starboard Wingboards are the most stable and user friendly wing foil boards on the market. These boards don't look like other wing foil boards, because they're not, and that's why they stand out. The 7'0 and 6'7 are our go-to boards in our wing foiling school because of how easy they are to get your first flights in and give you the confidence to push new maneuvers. The 5'8 is a great intermediate board that still boasts the stability of the bigger sizes but in a more compact and maneuverable shape. The 4'6 has a very different shape, but you will be surprised at how stable a 69 liter wing foil board can be. We tested these boards at sea level in salt water, so if you are winging in higher altitudes and fresh water, size recommendations could be different. Comment with any questions, or give us a call. Nice review. I really like my 7’. I’m 215 but over 220 after wetsuit and life vest. I’m able to plane up on the wing fairly easily. My only complaint is I Wish they put another handle on the top of balanced the handle more. But for $999? Great deal!

Hi Jake. Yeah, another handle would be pretty helpful, or maybe one that is a little wider, but we're still pretty stoked on these boards. I've been using the 5'8 for awhile now and still love it!

Thanks for the great review and advice which board size suits what kind of people. The 4"6 looks hardly like a sinker in the video, it takes off smoothly with the light wind. Can you tell me what the volume/weight difference is with the rider? I'm 75kg/165pnd, so will it be floating for me the same way? Thanks for your reply!

Hi Bart. Yeah, the 4'6 is still one of the more stable boards for 69 liters. The rider is about 175 lbs/79 kg, so you guys are pretty close in weight, so the board will handle about the same for you.

Thanks for the review! Would the 5'8" have enough float to let a 60kg rider sail upwind when NOT on the foil (in case the wind drops in light conditions)? Assuming the rider is a foiling newbie but experienced windsurfer.

You would be able to stay upwind, but when you're schlogging you aren't really able to gain ground going upwind. It would be equivalent to schlogging a windsurfing short board upwind. The 5'8 will have enough float for you, and once you're up on foil, which this board gets up onto foil really easy, then you'll be able to get upwind efficiently.

Hello, thank you for the detailed review of all sizes. Very helpful. QUESTION: I weigh 205 lbs (hoping to reduce a little bit 😜, maybe 195 lbs at best). But I do have Kiteboarding experience (only TwinTip though, never ridden a hydrofoil at all). Given that little bit of wind-sport experience and for my weight, do you suggest the 6-7 size board? Or would you say I should still go with 7 size because of zero foiling experience?

Hi Raghu. I think the 6'7 would work out pretty well for you. Even though it's a little less volume, they are still so stable. The 6'7 handles pretty similar to the 7'0 and I think you'll do great with the 6'7.

I am a beginner and I weigh around 62kg. Do you think the 5 8 would be a good board for me? I have quite a bit of surf experience. Does it feel too big when foiling or is it still maneuverable?

@@victorbmadslund The 5'8 will work for the right beginner at your weight as long as you're willing to put in a little bit of work for it. We've gotten a lot of guys and gals out on that shape and can't recommend it enough. It's remarkably fun to once airborne as the foil balances on the board super well, so it manages it's length surprisingly well. It's not as maneuverable as smaller boards, but it's a great place to start. I would not recommend starting on the 4'6 unless you have prior foiling experience and are below 5'10 in height.
