Man, that is a seriously great gear to start your wing foiling journey. I love the Ensis wings, been on Vayu mostly last year but I still ride a 4.6 and a 4 Ensis on windy days. Great stuff makes better and more fun sessions. Of course, it will be a bit of trial and error learning. Where will you be riding?

@@wingfoil_mallorca thx for reply. i know that the boards volume will be a struggle for the first ridings. but i have some watersports experience, like surfing and waking. i also snowboard/skate... so i deal with the struggle😅 i will be in lake constance and lake silvaplana. flatwater grounds. in summer i go to denmark and try it there😃 do you think the prolimit mercury 4/3 will fit in that termperature range of lets say 8-25 water temperature? or may i change it to a 5/3? greetings and thank you for your informative content👍

Hey, nice places for riding you got access to. Good luck and it’s just to put in the hours and you will be fine. Regarding wetsuits, it’s tricky. Depends how easily you get cold. 8-14 degrees I would generally say 5/3. 14 degrees and up a 4/3 is great. Winter 5/3, spring and autumn 4/3 and summer a 2/3 shorty and for really warm days just shorts and a Lycra is a good setup.

You are most welcome. Thank you for commenting. I am happy to hear you get value from my videos. I make them for you, and other riders starting to learn Wing Foil like Diane and I did 2020. What foil are you planning to have with this board if you choose to buy it?

@@wingfoil_mallorca well I have Fanatic Aero foil HA 1750/300 with AL 82mast 64 fuselage . It's all I know and have used so far and I enjoy it on my 5'4"95 ltr Fanatic Sky Wing board. I own a home in the Grenadines and traveling back and forth with gear is expensive and hard, and I want 2nd board to leave down there and the Starboard looks like a compact size with enough volume. Just curious how cold the water is in Mallorca as you wear wetsuits a lot? I LOVE Spain and have surfed Basque region a few times...maybe Mallorca is calling😁. Feiz Navidad..
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca Жыл бұрын
@@CaribsurfDon Ok, that’s good stuff. The reason I asked is that the Starboard has quite a cut out in the back and a heavy foil will impact the balance a lot. The stern will sink a bit as you can tell in my video. The Axis foil is heavy and had that effect. I think the Take off is an easier bird to go with any foil as the volume is more distributed evenly. If you have the chance to try it, that would obviously be the best. But we can’t many times. To have a second board there is the right way to go. Regarding your question about water temp here. Yes, we use wetsuits between November and March/April as the water is below 15-17 degrees. I guess it also depends how easy you get cold in the wind when you are wet. It’s ok, most of the year it’s warm and nice here. And the thermic winds during summer gives us more or less 4 months with wind every day. So we are not complaining. If you get here, I’ll show you some spots! Feliz Navidad y feliz año nuevo!

@@wingfoil_mallorca good point. It did look like you were a bit weighed down in the back..90% of the time I wing with no wetsuit/added weight, but the Fanatic foils, even the AL 3.0 are rather heavy compared to my friends wings. I might have to invest in lighter gear one day..I prefer durable gear for travel and why I usually buy heavier stuff..thanks agin for your help and take care.

Thank you so much for this video Fredrick, I'm 63 and haven't surfed in years, Foiling has my attention for riding in lakes and bays. I'm 196CM & 105KG in summer :) I'm looking to cruise and down wind I have a few SUPS 11'2 blend etc but time to look at foiling heading into retirement.

Hi Fredric, happy to see Starboard made this change! I’ve recently graduated to a 75L Armstrong 5.2, but I learned on the 88L Starboard 5.8 and I must say the shorter lighter Armstrong board is much easier to lift off the water. I can now foil in the lightest of wind conditions :) Greetings from Barbados!

@@wingfoil_mallorca No I changed the foil to an Armstrong 1850 and I just tried the 1550 from a friend, both work really well for me now! I don’t need as much lift anymore. I see you have changed your foil as well, how do you like your Axis?

@@peronnecozier So you have made some serious progression I hear. 🤩 Great stuff! I haven’t had the chance to try Armstrong material, but the word is they are great. The Axis I got to get more into riding downwinders. Still working on how to stay on the wave for longer rides. It’s a bit tricky. The foil however does have great lift and is very stable. A lot of fun! Stay safe!

Hey, haha yes! Last year they had a different opinion of how a board should look. But as different disciplines gets more evident. The market and the demand change. And so I am also happy they made these changes to their range. Easy to get up on foil and it’s really a lot easier to handle the short boards. Where do you ride?

Nice review Fredric, you should set up a patreon to get sponsors for the 360 camera attached to the harness, this will give the views better views. I have just invested in the Skymount, but some say that it's too heavy. Lets see, if not wallapop watch out 🤣

Thanks Victor - good review ! I’m waiting for the 6”3’x115L model which is a little floatier then what is recommended for a person 73KG. Hoping the stability and balance will be worth the extra flotation.
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes you will be very steady on the 6’3”. You can instead of concentrating on balance, focus on coming up and riding the foil. And get those jibes rocking. Should be just fine to get the foot switch done on that board. Good luck and let me know what you think of the board when you have done a few sessions! Stay safe!

Great review! I commented on your previous video on this board. After you’ve done some sessions on it would you recommend the 90l or the 100l for a beginner weighing around 62kg? I am looking for a board size where I can do different things. Both freeride, down winding and a bit of jumping.
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Victor, I’d say the 90L would be enough. You’d have a good margin and you can do any of those disciplines with this board! Also look at the Take-off. That board would work as well. Good luck and let me know how it goes! Stay safe!

That's fine if your 75kg 85kg what if I your 60 kg or 105kg ? Have trouble keeping it down , or getting on the foil, Many thanks for lots of entertaining hours

Thanks Bob. I appreciate you! Yes, I know this is the eternal question. With so many factors affecting us in the sea. No two days are the same! What equipment to use when, is a very important question to know. The way we do it. We have a foil for low wind and a foil for the rest. We adjust the position of the mast if the wind is strong or stronger. And regarding keeping the foil down, that is a matter of adjusting your feet position. I don’t recommend learning with foot straps. Better to be free to move around and discover best foot placement. To get on foil is also one of the most asked questions. I have tried to explain in some of my videos. It is in the beginning, super important not to try to get up on foil in too low wind. I’d say from 14-15 knots you can put up the wing and get sufficient speed. Lean a bit back to angle the foil up, just a little bit and you only need to come up a bit and stop there. Set the board down and then repeat. We need time to learn. When your level increases you can start to pump the wing to accelerate more and faster. You need to have a good balance before you start pumping the wing as you offset the balance directly when you start moving the wing. Good luck. If I could do it, you can too! Stay on it.

HI Fredric, I was wondering how Diane can stay up on Foil at such a slow speed in your Jibe video. I am about 97kg but I keep dropping down if I slow down. If I could go slower and stay up on foil I think it would be a lot easier to learn to jibe. What foil does and board does she use? Thank you, Scott P
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, in that video she was riding a Starboard foil 2400cm. That is well beyond what she needs for her 45 kg. Therefore she can still get lift at low speeds. I have a hard time myself going that slow and I’m only 74-75 kg. So for a rider of your weight. If you would go out with a front wing in that size. It would help you but I don’t see you going that slow and still have lift. But bigger makes learning easier. What are you riding with now?

I noticed looking at the starboard 2021 wing foil board and the 2022, the foil box on the 21 is sooooo far forward, then in 2022 they moved it back? What's your take on that decision?
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, what I have gathered is that the difference size of the boards requires the position of the fin box to be placed different. This due to get a reasonable level of adjustment depending foil and rider weight. Also interesting to notice is that the -22 board has a larger fin box which gives us a wider possibilities to trim the position of the foil mast. In my experience I am more content with the position of the fin box on the -22 board. On the -21 board I couldn’t use foot straps as I preferred to have the front foot further back and centered. Just at the place where the two foot straps meet. Now with the -22 board the placement of my front foot and the placement of the foot straps are in sync. 😊

Not convinced by the cut away. What is the interest for some thing supposed to be in the air. You loose volume an lateral stability in the back.
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Fred, yes at first thought it would appear so. But as I have understood the cutouts are made like that so we have an earlier release from the water, and planing only on the flat surface in the middle. All this to help us get up on foil faster and easier. As I said in the video, this 5,2 board is easy to get up on foil even though it’s short. It is still 90L so the litres are distributed differently than on the 5,8. It takes some rides to get used to this. But I’m hopeful to crack the “code” very soon and be all comfortable with this board. 😁👍
