The reason the corollas are so reliable is cause their simple and naturally aspirated adding a turbo would be more problematic

Agreed. When I was deciding to buy corolla hatch or civic hatch, when I saw normal civic hatch comes only with 1.5l turbo, that was enough for me to go for corolla with 2.0l no turbo...

Amen, i was a Honda fan for a long time. Then, I had some issues with a 2008 Accord, V6. Another story. Anyway, yes the normally aspirated engine, other than the great looks of the hatchback, made the Corolla my choice.

Don't mess with perfection. Those Corollas will run forever and get awesome fuel economy and low maintenance

It doesn't need a turbo but the 2.5 engine from the Camry would be a great fit for a sportier trim for the Corolla IMO

Yes!! Would probably get near the same mpg as the 2.0 since it gets near 40 in the Camry.

Great review Ben! I've been told that the CVT with the physical first gear is surprisingly good. In fact, it's so good that the 2020/2021 Lexus UX 200 has the exact same Corolla CVT and Corolla 2 liter engine.

Would've appreciated commenting on the car's handling and, especially, ride with those huge wheels which can cause the ride to be jarring. There's more to a car review than the interior, powertrain and the transmission!

I’m doing the same, but I want the sedan. I just want the xse sedan in a manual but it doesn’t exist so I’ll have to get the se.

I've had the 2019 since April of that year. I can confirm its a great car. Biggest con for me is the lack of storage it just wasn't very well thought out. The GDI is done better, frankly everyone is better. Between my buddies and I we own most of them.

I have the sedan in the SE trim level, I’ve had it for almost a year now. It’s been a great car and it’s paid off which is an even better feeling.

@@historydude2743 the sedan has more rear leg room in case you tend to have passengers back there often. The hatch cargo area is good for carrying taller items in the trunk. Other than that they are identical in every other way.

Just bought 2021 Hatchback XSE, 6 speed manual, in silver metallic w/black metallic roof. I haven’t had a manual in 20 years and have missed having one. Finally got my chance. It, “totally”, makes this car. I’ve had all kinds of transmissions. They all have their attributes. Dual clutch are great. I’ve owned 2. Especially if you like manuals. They are basically manual’s that are electro/hydraulically controlled. Pure manuals can’t be bet for all out fun and control of the vehicle.

3:21 "that's everything for the back of the corolla". the seats fold down a biggee for hatch buyers. i am looking at the manual SE but heard Nav not included unless geek cell phone hook ups. xse supposed to have on screen ready.

Another best thing is there is no rev hang. 2017 Corolla I had before trading it in for 2021 Corolla hatchback had annoying rev hang.

I would think that this Corolla would have enough power with the 2 liter. I have had 2 Corolla's, both MT's, and they were 1.8 liters. I'd buy one.

I can’t disagree with that statement. I was a Honda fan for a long time, but had an issue with a 2008 (bought new) V6 that was using a quart of oil every 1,000 mikes and the front camshaft went bad. All of this before it hit 150,000 miles. And all factory, by the book maintenance. Honda has never addressed either of the issues that were quite prevalent from what I can tell.

Love this hatchback with manual transmission. It really pops in Toyota's flame blue & black roof combination. I usually stick with AWD vehicles. I may have to stray off the AWD path.

@@PiLLO360 Yes. We get snow. I live at the top of a steep hill. Without AWD, I'd have to park at the bottom of the hill outside, & walk up sometimes with groceries in tow. AWD make it easy to climb snowy hills.

I really like the design of the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback XSE, The front and the rear - the rear tailight is freakin awesome BUT The rear passengers doesn't have a lot of ROOM, that's a dislike for me, so I went to Corolla Sedan- I only like the Front(b/c same in hatchback) - the rear is not the best looking for me. So it's hard to choose between them

No he doesn't have the premium option, wireless charging, jbl speaker package, rear air, and I think slight adjustment on the headlights when you turn .

I would only want this in a Manual. Automatics are for sleepy drivers who want it easy. don't get me wrong automatics have their uses if you have a broken left foot, or a broken right hand, or you're just too damn lazy to learn how to drive a manual. No wonder there's more accidents in cars that happen to be driving automatics compared to manual.
