Not my typical video. Trying to add some useful information that I couldn't find on KZfaq about electronic parking brake for the Chevy Traverse. Maybe this will help out some Chevy owners.

I will be replacing all of my brake pads and this video is a great help for those of us that actually have a electronic parking actuator module. This is my baby and so I want to take great care of it when handling sensitive electronic component. The worse thing you or anyone can do is destroying it by not researching it and they just go and start tearing things apart without knowing what can really go south quickly and will cost you an even bigger problem. Thank you very much for providing this great video guide that I have been looking for. These parts aren't cheap, so take great care of them when servicing it yourself. I much rather play it safe then sorry. I just got a recent code for right parking barrage actuator high voltage when I went to use my diagnostic scanner. It detected a problem with the parking brake actuator. Says it needed recalibrate probably because my brake pads are worn out. For now I just clear the code only until I get all the new pads in then I will go ahead and recalibrate it back to manufacturer spec. These electronic parking brake actuator are picky and prone to going out if you use it too often when it is unnecessary on a flat surface. They're only meant to be use temporary when you are parking in a steep incline road. They're not meant to be use all the time on flat surface road. I just found out a hard lesson to never use then unless it is necessary only in steep hill parking and not on flat road that are ground zero level.

Thank you for making this video, this saved me from having to pay hundreds of dollars to the dealer. I do most all of my own maintenance , (although I know my limits). I used this process on my wife’s 22 Chevy Blazer RS and this worked flawlessly! Thanks again!

Just got a 2021 Traverse and havent had to change the breaks yet but liked the vid for future reference. I did habe a question and wondering if u had any experience with this . So a few times I've gotten in the car , realized breaks have beem engaged or turned on without me doing it !! Bc i only use it when parking on a hill or something.. I've seen online some people have had same issue and many say its mentioned somewhere in the book but i couldn't find anything.. Only thing i can think of, they gave me three months free onStar trial and sometimes i have lokced or unlocked the car or turn it on/off and thinking maybe that's whats doing it .. Any thoughts? Thank you for ur vid, short and to the point im sure ill appreciate it more when its time to work in the breaks

I don't have an answer for why it does that other than mine has done that as well from time to time. I would put the car in reverse and I would feel momentary resistance, then hear the parking brake auto release. I hadn't set the parking brake. It hasn't done it in a while but it's my wife's car and she daily drives it. I don't drive the car every day so I really don't know how often it does this. I don't think it is anything to worry about. My biggest gripe is not being able to turn off the auto-stop feature for the engine. Terrible design on the 2021 as the new Traverse now has a button to press to disable the auto-stop feature. If you know how to stop the auto start-stop feature, please let me know. Thanks for watching.

@@ForceBuilt I'm hearing/seeing different opinions! Some kind of "safety feature"! I noticed when I use onstar app to turn on or lock the car it might be automatically putting the breaks on ! I'm texting with my guy at the dealership and he's looking into it .. Do I have a solution for that annoying as hell auto stop for ya brother! Simple: put the gear in L rather than D and click up all the way to 9th gear (will obviously show on screen) and this feature works exactly like if it's on D as long as it's on L9 and not L1 and the "manual shift buttons" are right on there, use right thumb! Just a note and probably not ok for the new generation sensitive men/women ! But if it's a female driving it , MAKE SURE she understands it MUST be manually shifted all way up to last gear ! No disrespect just have had experience with this where she called me and says my RPM is on a million!! 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣 Solution works perfectly just takes some time getting used to it .. checked with a few master transmission technicians and they said shouldn't cause any issues since it drives exactly like as if it were on D .. Thank you for taking the time to reply and happy new Year to you , fam and all loved ones 🎉🙏

So, that is interesting. I also had OnStar for 3 months. That is when mine was doing it. I haven't noticed it since then. I am convinced OnStar is what was engaging my Parking Brake and yours too. Thanks for the information!

@@ForceBuilt you're very welcome! Glad I could be of some help .. Just make sure , as you know , when it's on D we're used to going up three gears to put it into P (park) .. at first when ur not used to it , and ur on L , you might , out of habit, move the shift up "three counts" and now obviously ur on (R)/ Reverse instead of being in P or Park .. Just takes some getting used to as I have put in on R out of habit , thinking it's In park and it's obvious how this can be unsafe! so PLEASE just be aware and careful until u get used to it .. otherwise works like a charm ! Usually on long or highway driving I won't use it but only in city where I have to make lots of stops . Anyways, thanks for the conversation and hope u enjoy the Verse as I am.. TC ✌️🙏

I would think so.

Will I have to leave a reference to this video in my owner's manual. Can't think of any reason GM would have designed a system like this with such a convoluted procedure other than to try to prevent people from doing brake jobs on their own car at home, without a $10,000 scan tool.
@ForceBuiltАй бұрын
Yeah, I don't know why they just make it hard sometimes. I know they don't want us working on our own cars. It was hard for me to find this procedure. I'm surprised they don't make the procedure different for each GM automobile lol. Thanks for watching!
@dand3975Ай бұрын
Does your Traverse automatically set the parking brakes, when car is in park and not running?
@ForceBuiltАй бұрын
Yes it does at times. I don't think it does every time. I do hear it when it does it. My wife always says, "why does it do that" lol. It is normal and nothing to worry about.

I can’t get this to work for 2018. Any ideas? On Traverse.
@ForceBuilt3 ай бұрын
Engine must be running. Timing is everything. As soon as you let off the brake press and release the e-brake button(don't delay even as much as I did in the video).
@tonyceron86727 күн бұрын
So looks like you keep the vehicle running for the whole process?
@ForceBuilt7 күн бұрын
Yes. When the Parking brake releases, you can stop the engine to change the rear brakes. Start the engine when finished to put the park brake back active again with the procedure shown. THanks for wathcing!

What will happen if you don’t put the brake back on
@ForceBuilt Жыл бұрын
I would think you would not have rear brakes, just front brakes. I just set the brake at the end to show it worked. When I set the brake and held the button I was taking it out of maintenance mode. Otherwise the light would flash forever. Thanks is for watching!
