Thanks man! Solid bike for sure - though I must say I’m not sure I’d opt for it if I was living in the Midwest. Personally I might look for something a bit more agile and nimble. I mostly ride our local bike park but also really like our local trail centres as well, do you think the bike would be too sedated for this? I was thinking the spectral could be a good option but like the idea of big travel for the bigger jump lines and steep tech at the bike park.....
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Have not yet ridden a Spectral, though I wish I have, but I’m confident in saying it would be a much better all-rounder. However, both bikes are very slack and downhill oriented and I think either would serve you well at the bike park. Honestly, I’m confused why Canyon makes the newest Spectral, the Torque, AND the Strive. If you can’t have a trail bike and a park bike, I’d go Spectral. And then consider two wheelsets - one with fast rolling tires for trail and another with burly tires / inserts for the park 🤘🏼

Hi nice movie👍I want to ask you.. How are you feel when you cornering in low speed with 63,5° head angle? Because I feel unstability when I tilt the bike little bit the bike spontaneously tilt and turns more than I want, especially it make problem on north shore section, I am thinking about angleset headset to increase this angle. And The Bottom bracket is in really low position, did you have also problem with hiting the roots during pedaling?
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thank you! Firstly, you’re justified in your feelings - depending on what type of bike you were riding prior to the Torque, this would be a significant change in geo. Your experiences are a common feeling when switching to such a slack and low bike. For me, I’m familiar with the feeling because my prior bike also had a 64 degree HA and was very low, therefore my riding style has already adapted and I don’t even notice anymore 😅 so thank you for sharing your experience and sorry I didn’t mention this in the video I have noticed that on some climbs that the handlebars will tip in and create some additional instability. However it’s not super common and it occurs most often when I’m talking with other people and not really focused on the task at hand.

@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide Жыл бұрын
It’s a super comfortable bike anywhere, but it’s definitely slow on flat terrain compared with a trail bike. Maybe a tire swap could help, but either way.. the suspension and head angle require serious terrain to make the most of the bike. The spectral is a better suited all rounder that can still boogie on some difficult terrain. That said, if it’s too late to cancel - I wouldn’t worry. It’s a sweet bike and now you have an excuse to take it to the rad places that it demands

Did you know you can change the travel from 175 to 181 or 187.5 by removing bottom out spacers on the shocks without it changing the way the bike handles if you run the same air pressure or coil rate
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm…. I am not familiar with this. Canyon also states the 29er rear travel is 170, not 175. Sounds like you might be referring to the 27.5 Torque. Still cool though. What’s your source / info for the shock adjustment?
@1998nathanr
@1998nathanr 2 жыл бұрын
@@GlobalTrailGuide no source just think fox and rockshox normally have one shock with eye to eye of 250mm for example but with 3 different strokes to save money they just come with a set amount of spacers to fit bike manufacturers requirements. I messaged you on Instagram if you want to hear more
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
@@1998nathanr yes, you're correct about the spacers. Both air and coil shocks have internal spacers, which can be removed / added to adjust the stroke length. However not many bikes can actually accommodate a longer stroke length without either the frame or the wheel making contact with each other. I feel obligated to mention that it can be risky and can result in broken frames / shocks - definitely not approved by manufacturers and it's a bike by bike scenario regarding if it's even possible. And thanks, I'll check my DMs

Hey, I love canyon's bikes. I am looking at both the spectral 29 and the torque 29, but don't know which one would suit me best. If I go the torque, I am worried that 170 mm of travel is too much travel for trail/all-mountain riding. What do you think ?
@GlobalTrailGuide

Hey hey! If you have concerns about pedaling, then Spectral is probably the better move. Spectral is still more than capable for when the riding gets rowdy!

@@GlobalTrailGuide I am too between both. I was about to purchase a Spectral but found that for the same price I can get a Torque with seemingly better components - go figure. @@j.albertogratacos2076 nah dude go for the Torque, it’s much better downhill and it’s climbing is ok 👍
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
@@j.albertogratacos2076 without a doubt, the Spectral will be a better all arounder. Where are you riding most and what types of trails? Some of the fastest EWS pros were on Spectrals last year, those bikes can certainly still get down in a hurry. Regarding value between Spectral and Torque… as far as I can tell the drivetrains are similar or the same across the builds, but suspension on the Spectrals may be lacking slightly with weaker dampers. Nothing wrong with a 36 or lyrik though, still more than capable. However, Zebs and 38s do hold their own when things get REALLY rowdy. Bikes are all about compromises, always so hard to decide between them. Regardless, I doubt you’d be disappointed by either… so long as you aren’t getting a Torque to ride flat trails or light rolling terrain, other bikes are better suited for that imo

How would you describe the feel of the rear suspension more poppy or more dead?
@GlobalTrailGuide

I feel this question has more to do with shock setup than leverage curve, though I recognize the affects of both. As a 170mm travel bike, and a heavy one at that, I feel I have to describe the bike as being more muted than poppy. But it still sends regardless.

I’m not an expert on bike sizing; however, yes, I do believe that it will fit you well. Ideally someone else closer to your height can chime in and confirm. Interesting that you run a Z1 coil. Have you ridden a Zeb and do you rate the Z1 as better? I have an air Z1 and I’m tossing between doing the coil conversion or buying a new Zeb for 3 times the cost of the coil conversion. Thanks.
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I rode a Zeb Ultimate for a year on my previous bike, then I installed this Z1 Coil on my previous bike. I love the stiffness of the Zeb (which I noticed most around chunky corners), but I also love the smoothness and consistency of a coil fork. I have not tried it yet, but I believe my ideal solution would be a coil Zeb, however that’s a lot of $$$ and I already have my affordable Z1 Coil - so that’s what I’m currently using. I made a video discussing my coil fork experience here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/paxydbKbvLCooWw.html
@nigehill
@nigehill 2 жыл бұрын
@@GlobalTrailGuide thanks. You do give a good review but I’m interested in the direct comparison. Is the Z1 heavier than the Zeb and if you’re riding the Z1 over the Zeb select that came on the Canyon, I’m assuming you prefer the Z1 over the Zeb select? Thanks for your reply. New subscriber.
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
@@nigehill thank you. For me, it’s more about coil vs air than it is about Z1 vs Zeb. The Zeb select damper is essentially equivalent to the grip damper in the Z1, so I feel I can’t choose which is better. Additionally, I know that I prefer the stiffness of the Zeb over the Z1. However, I really like the coil and it can be had for $780 vs ($800 or $1000 + $400) for a Zeb coil conversion. This decision for me is more about money and affordability. At the end of the day, it’s marginal differences between a Z1 and a Zeb. I swapped my Zeb select immediately so that I could keep it as a new fork in perfect condition in case I decide to sell it. And yes, the Z1 is a couple hundred grams heavier, but I don’t notice it on trail.
@nigehill
@nigehill 2 жыл бұрын
@@GlobalTrailGuide awesome thanks. I do think the Z1 is good and looking at buying the coil conversion which is $320 AU here opposed to $1500 au for the Zeb ultimate. There's no footage of you sitting and pedaling (flat or uphill) You even mentioned the seat post angle but we can't even see your body position. I don't even know the frame size or your height. Is this a new megalong canyon also? All these reviews are barely surface level insight, if you're trying to show me a $2-5000 bike I'm not convinced

Thanks for your feedback, I’ll make improvements for the future. There are some shots of me seated and climbing, albeit they’re quick, but on camera things never look as steep as they are. Additionally, it’s very hard to get side profile shots on trails that are in the woods 🤷‍♂️ In my previous released video of the bike, I mentioned I’m 193cm and riding an XL. Lastly, I’m just a fellow mtber, I don’t sell bikes and it doesn’t matter to me whether you buy a $2-5000 bike or not 😂

Not gonna lie… that’s the ugliest bike I’ve ever seen - lol - but great video and if it rides THAT GOOD, who cares what it looks like 😎

Not going to disagree. Very glad there's a silver and black option.
