Today we are leaving Walden, Colorado, riding east on Hwy 14, the Cache La Poudre Scenic Byway, south on Stove Prairie Rd and Buckhorn Rd., then west on US Hwy 34 through Rocky Mountain National Park on Trail Ridge Road Scenic Byway, elevation 12,183' to Grand Lake, Colorado.

so let me get this straight you have to make a reservation to use a state highway just because it goes through a national park what is a person to do if you do not have a reservation

The reservations are only on busy times of the year. If you don’t have a reservation, you have to take an alternate route. Our National Parks are getting so crowded with tourists that there are traffic jams and not enough parking available, so they now have to limit the amount of vehicles entering. Check with each National Park for their entry requirements.
