The difference between these 2 cars is dependent heavily on the drivers reaction time.

It's a good point. If you look at the Car and Driver times for these cars, the S4 is certainly the launch king but everything else the G70 wins at. 5-60 (the real acceleration test) has the G70 at 5.0sec and the S4 at 5.7sec. The G70 also wins 30-50 and 50-70. Was the driver of the S4 the owner and thus more familiar with how to get the best out of the car?

@@SlipAngleG70 launch is heavily dependent on the driver very much so. I have the ‘22 G70 sport advanced (RWD) and I get 0-60 in 4.4s. I get 0-80 in 5.8s this review is great because to see a genesis compete with an Audi is nice. BUT…. The driver most definitely didn’t do this car justice.

@@SlipAngleG70 its funny people only knew about genesis because of the coupe, which is nice and fun to drive. I was fully aware that the auto trans would be a little.... off?. more specifically when you're launching in auto mode or braking/downshifting in auto mode. but the car turns into a completely different animal when in manual mode! lol, I love my G70, didn't think I would based on prior genesis cars I've had. but ill be damned! for being an auto I feel almost as engaged in driving like I would be driving a manual. (rip). The 1 gripe I have.... I wish they had a slightly more agro auto trans, almost like the Audi or even M3/M4. but its really a minor issue if you know how to launch I guess.

3rd normal mode race, you can see they react together, so not the case. everyone doesn't react perfect every time, even though you're there for that. these cars stock, do have about the same 1/4 mile times, so this is very fair and accurate

Where do you get that info from ? motortrend and car and driver times, G70 has a wee bit faster times, from their testing..oh.. the M340i, yes, you're right, but the 340i, the G70 takes it.. and it's closer in price, so if being fair fair in comparing...... G70 is the more luxury all around nicer vehicle, IMHO

@@rpmautoreviews9249 I was talking about the m340i, not the 340. It takes it with ease. Which is not a surprise since it basically takes every car in the segment with ease. The s4 gets completely destroyed by the m340i and the s4 destroys the g70. We’re in a racing channel. Not a luxury channel. It does have a nice interior, not that the bmw is ugly or anything. When you have a brand backed up a brand like Hyundai you better have luxury if you’re not going to put perform an m340i or any car with a big luxury brand name

It’s an automatic car and in most of these runs there’s thing more you can do than simply mash your right foot. So I don’t know how using a walk-in talkie slows him down. If these were manual cars and shifts were being delayed due to the extra objects in hand then i can see an argument that he shouldn’t be screwing around. I love how all these ricer wanna be’s still live by “iTs nOt ThE cAr ItS tHe DrIvEr”. As time goes on computers do all the work and you do nothing but mash the pedal. This is already true of most cars and every single electric car.

The issue with the G70 launch is not the rpm. The issue is that the default launch control doesn’t build boost until about 20 mph. You can put a brake switch on that will allow you to build boost but that technically is a modification. You can also do an E-Brake launch but that isn’t really good for the car.

As a genesis/hyundai technician this is false. Boost builds from 1,500 rpms, the genesis needs driver mod... he even says “the audi shifts faster”

What’s crazy is I drove a 2023 g70 2.0t AWD and it would launch hard af!! Like breaking loose the tires hard. But every video I’ve seen where people try to launch, they can’t. I had no problem. And even the 2.0t was insane off the line

Car and Driver tested the S4 0-60 in 4.2s. Dont know why everyone is surprised about the result... On the roll races you could clearly see the S4 driver getting on the gas slightly before they hit the mark. He was only inching ahead slightly but it means he had the turbo's spooled. It would be great if you could swap drivers.

@40 Roller So you use “boy” the most cliche word? Lol. I’ve owned an Audi, BMWs, and Mercedes, and like all German cars, it’s designed to fall apart right after it’s short warranty. All my German cars have fallen apart befor warranty except one which was leased. I’ve never owned a Korean car and only recently have I considered getting a genesis because of their design, drivability, power train, and warranty. I know my German cars “boy”.

Yeah I think that 10 year 100k power terrain warrantee made them tune the launch very conservatively from the factory on the G70.

Nah man it’s the transmission. My Veloster N with the new 8 speed wet clutch DCT launches super hard beating the manufacturers estimated 5.2 second 0-60 mph every time lol. 4.8s all day. They need to put the new 8 speed DCT out of Veloster Ns in this. Gonna need to beef it up more for the higher hp and torque tho

@@frf1670 The V6 turbo has 100 more HP and torque. Sorry but Hyundai/Genesis has yet to develop a transmission that can reliability take that to 100k miles because numb nuts always will drag race their cars. I’m sure Hyundai will soon. A DCT for the turbo V6 would be awesome.

Ya, bought G70 3.3T RWD. If you noticed the stig (Sam) was driving AWD. Maybe RWD has a very slight advantage over AWD, my guess. A DCT trans would go a long way to get the most out of the 3.3T. For the extended warranty and $5k plus savings over the S4, would take the G70 for sure.

I like that you do multiple runs with different settings and starts and not just one or two, as I’m sure you know it can change the outcome. I agree. Not as bad a the q50 though. I never liked the way my q50 or q70L shifted. I just got a 2022 g70 3.3t yesterday and to be honest, (If I was going to go with a genisis) I wanted a g80 as I like a bigger and more luxury oriented car, but there are very little new cars at the moment, my q70L's lease was up 3 months ago and they want it back by Monday (even though they agreed to a 6 month extension.) The 530i is an absolute joke and has zero balls, lexus is has nothing under their hood either, unless you want to spend 80k, mercedes had no inventory, cadillac had no inventory and so I just decided to check out the g70. It's very responsive, comes with far more goodies and power than the 530i and although it's much smaller, it was nice drive something different and fun for a change. I was going to go with a q50 Red sport, but I had a q50s prior to my q70L and nothing changed aside from the motor. It's hard to go from a car that was 202" long, to one that's 185", but you get a lot for just under 53k and again, it's fun to drive!

I'd love for you to try the e-brake launch instead of the factory launch control on the genesis. The factory LC only builds revs and no boost. If you come to a stop right before the start line using and holding the e-brake and add throttle once the car has fully stopped, you will build boost. Get revs upto about 2500-2700 rpm and release the e-brake and floor it at the same time. You will get a much harder launch. Love your work buddy, stay safe. Also I like to shift at around 4800rpm to 5500 rpm since that is more in the torque curve of the g70 and yeilds better 0-100 times.

This all comes down to the launch. Genesis is protecting that 10 year warranty. Brake snip, e-brake launch or ECU tune fixes this and would result in a win for the G70 or a tie. S4 is a great car though.

Audi launch control builds max boost dumps 4K rpm G70 launch control doesn’t even build boost If the driver would have done the parking brake launch with g70 it would win or be neck n neck. Try to use the current car vs current car that Audi is 2017-2019 and the genesis is the 2022 still lost but the new Audi S4 could've done better since they've added the mild hybrid system to boost the power and better fuel ratings.

Mild hybrid is only on the newer A4. S4/5 still use the same V6T, but Audi could have done some tweaks to it.

Not true in my experience - my 2018 S5 SB is the most trouble free car I’ve ever owned and I’m 3.5 years and 43K miles in. This is after lemon-lawing 2 Genesis sedan/G80’s in a row for rattling sunroofs (2015 replaced with a 2016 which was subsequently bought back) - I liked the car, but the sunroof design was flawed!

@@joneill63 Between myself, family, and close friends, we have had more than 20 Audis over the years, plus a bunch of VWs. The only one I can remember that had no issues was a 1979 Audi 4000, which we only had for about a year. I do admit that none of them were 2018 or newer models. I think my friend's S4 with electronic issues is a 2016. His 2008 S4 went through oil like crazy. Again, I absolutely love them, but I don't feel they are for people who expect to just drive their cars. Sounds like you've good a good one. Hopefully it stays that way!

Yea I’m between an S5 or the G70. I WANT the Audi but I’m concerned about maintenance and pricing. Like how expensive are oil changes and brakes and all that? I want a nice car but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg just to keep it going.

This is about what i expected. I would like that S4 to come back and go against the Type S if you ever get one. The S4 is pretty much on par with a C43 on most runs so expect the same results.

The TLX Type S beat the Audi S4 (RedlineReview), and the Audi S4 beat/lost to the Mercedes C43 AMG (Throttle House), and the S4 beat the Genesis G70 3.3T (this video). And the BMW M340i beat the S4 and C43 (Throttle House), therefore... BMW M340i > Acura TLX Type S > Audi S4 = Mercedes C43 AMG > Genesis G70

So, in my opinion, for the price the G70 100% no-brainer. If it’s losing by that little (due in part to driver error) or beating the Audi means one would save 10’s of thousands on the sticker. It’s not a overly difficult decision. That being said, you’re not gonna convince an Audi or BMW or a Mercedes lifer to switch to a Genesis G70. You will, however have a better chance of getting new money into one.

Where i come from Israel every one knows that the DSG is the worst transmission that VW group has ever made. You are right the G70/Stinger need an automated manual. I had a 2015 GTI. Everything about the Stinger is better except the transmission. The DSG in the GTI was awesome.

First, press and hold the traction control button to disable TCS and Stability Control. Turn the drive mode selector to Sport or Sport Plus mode. Put your left foot on the break. Rev the gas until it hits 2,000 RPM, activating the launch control. Put the car in drive. Now rev the engine past 2,000 RPMs and release the brake to launch the G70.

Manual mode is the best for launch. But it sounds like you weren’t doing manual for either? But it could also be the AWD vs RWD. I have the ‘22 g70 sport advanced (RWD) and I don’t have issues with launch even without manual mode. The car was designed with everything tuned sport the eco and comfort mode make throttle response and shifting kinda odd and almost “lazy”? But that can be negated with manual mode. Also… the car performs best in Sport+ mode FOR SURE.

The Audi definitely seems to have bumped the boost in sport+ along with some hard shifts.. it would be a fair trade off if Genesis knocked off 2 years of the powertrain warranty for a Sport mode with abit more aggression..

It’s not the sport mode that doesn’t have agression it’s the launch control……In sport mode it moves but the launch control is as it doesn’t build boost

@@Tsand4 but that's what I'm saying the lack of not just boost but power is deliberately tuned in by the manufacturer the N/A models do the same thing.. if u apply brake and gas it pulls the throttle input.. so for those who want abit more kick there should be a button to tell the ECM we want all u got.. the flip side is shorten drive train life.. thus my agreement i would take the extra performance in sacrifice for abit of longevity

@@joebrown9621 I agree I’d take a crazy aggressive launch control all day. There is a work around in the g70/stinger tho which is the parking brake launch. It builds boost on launch n moves out. But only people in the g70/stinger community know about/know how to do it.

The roll racing reaction time doesn’t hinder the outcome as much I think the Audi has a bit more of a power band up top the genesis might be heavier I’m not sure also .... but with the 3.3 the tenses should take it after 130

The Genesis is lighter and has more hp. The issue is, it's rear wheel drive. The Audi is AWD so although it's heavier, it puts power to all of the wheels.

As an owner of a G70, all I can say is that damn nasty 8-speed auto that Hyundai made in-house and put into it is what holds its power back a lot and makes it suffer on launches. If only they put the velosters 8-speed DCT inside the G70, it would be a way more responsive car on acceleration.

I wonder if the next G70 would get the 8speed dct used in Veloster N. It can shift much better than current automatic I think. Anyway, if you search on the internet, g70 sport has 4.4 0 to 60 and S4 has 4.2 so this isn't surprising result. I still think G70 is a decent 🚗 with such luxurious looks and competitive price and warranty

That transmission is completely incompatible with a RWD car. The 8 speed DCT was built for FWD and FWD based AWD setups only. No way to convert it. They would have to build an entirely new transmission and they’ve already said that isn’t happening. Not unless they build an M or AMG fighter

The gears are not far apart there actually really short gears n it shifts really quick. It’s not as quick as bmw zf 8 sp but the zf 8 sp in s4 is not on that level either.

I think the Genesis was heat soaked after run 4. Hyundai turbo engines are known to have this problem.

the 2.0L was like that, not the 3.3L. AudiS4 on paper by C & D /Motor trend is 12.8 sec car & g70 is atime 13 sec car. So regardless of drivers, he results are accurate

Results totally make sense. Even though the G70 has a bit more power and torque, the S4 was faster in sport and sport plus modes. After all, the G70 has no "N" model. It's not quite the sports car that the S model is. I'd still take the Genesis any day of the week!
