The Kia Picanto is part of a dying breed of tiny city cars with an analogue feel. How does it stack up against rivals such as the Fiat 500, Toyota Aygo, Hyundai i10 and VW UP? With a little turbo engine and a solid manual gearbox, this makes for some old fashioned fun thats super cheap to run.

50 mph at 1500 rpm in 5th gear - and you’ve got nothing but criticism about that? That’s extraordinarily high gearing (courtesy of the torque from the turbo) which will give very relaxed high-speed cruising, and good fuel economy too. You did it the wrong way round - if you want acceleration change to a lower gear (that’s what gearboxes are for) rather than staying in the very high top gear, then pouring cold water when it doesn’t instantly leap ahead…

@leestockton9367 not if its declared to the insurance company it won't, and a tuning box is plug and play so can easily be removed without trace, although I'd rather get a proper remap.

Could you elaborate a bit as to why you think the picanto is a bit better than the Hyundai G-i10. I bought the G-i10 but I can confess that I have had the itch about the picanto ever since. Interested to hear your take on it. Thanks!

Yep! It sat for a few months before being cleared away. Brand new car, and very straight open roads so no idea how they managed such a severe crash.

Love the trashed car on the roundabout, as if he was saying "this is what happens if you try to corner this fast and you're NOT driving a Picanto GT-Line S"!

It was a pretty basic hatchback of some description, it’s probably the third car I’ve seen trashed there, its a straight road as well 😂

The 1 Litre non-turbo has a chain driven cam rather than a belt so for someone like me who doesn't like cam belts nor turbos either the 1 litre normally aspirated engine is a better buy.

I drove the auto non turbo yesterday and found it great. Too many reviews jumping on the 1.0 Turbo without driving the 66bhp engine to compare.

why did they call it the GT Linse S? in Australia its the GT & the model down from it is the GT line

In the UK there is no GT model. The model range starts at 1, then 2, then 3, then GT Line, then GT Line S. Although from 2023 the GT Line S has been removed, the GT Line is now top of the range.

I never really like cars of this size and speed for motorway driving, but it performs just fine. Its adequate.

Hm, I’ve ordered an X line S version of these which doesn’t have the turbo charged engine because I wanted an automatic. Do you think the GT line S is a better option?

Personally I wouldn’t have a non turbocharged version but thats just me. If you’re coming from a car with similar power then it probably won’t bother you that much!

Not sure. It was there for about 2 months before being cleared up. Its a very wide road straight in each direction. The car was brand new as well.

Yes it's cheap to maintain (full major service by a Kia dealership is £330), no real parts issues and it is warrantied for seven years anyway (no quibble)

Great car but the huge con about it is the childish design. For example, Fiesta is a small car too (not as small as Picanto but still) but it looks nice. It’s sporty, sharp and looks decent, it’s good for a men 30+. But Picanto is for 18 yo guys.

Fiesta sucks, I'm 6'4 tall and my frigging nose can touch the roof. The worst headroom in my life. It's a dwarfs car, if you are not a dwarf get at least a Toyota Vios. This Picanto actually has a good headroom.
