I drive a GT2, I am consistently impressed by how fast it is. And I feel like I have some pretty decent bragging rights to being one of the fastest cars in the grocery store parking lot. But if they came out with a Stinger that included the 3.5 TT, with 450hp, as you mentioned, this car would go from a duke to a king! Bow down plebes!

I bought a 2020 GT2 in the early part of the pandemic last year. I managed to get it for $41,500. Pre-pandemic, at least, there were still good discounts to be had on this. You could usually pick up a GT2 for $45k-$47k pretty easily. At the beginning of the pandemic, some dealers were pretty panicked. Mine is in the Ceramic Silver with a red leather interior that really, really elevates it over the black. I absolutely love this car and it's probably the last new or newish internal combustion engine I'll ever buy. I plan to keep it for the long haul, even after I'm finally ready for an EV. When it's out of warranty, I'll probably throw a bigger turbo and intercooler on it. It's easy to make this thing make ~450 HP. With a bigger turbo, tune, etc, there are folks making 600 whp. But all that, for me, won't come until the warranty is done and it's not my primary driver anymore. :)

I know you dislike black interiors, but after owning a 30th Anniversary Camaro Z28 with white seats, I have become more of a fan of black seats. Especially if I intend to keep the car long term. The great thing about black interiors, they never go out of style or give the impression of dating the vehicle.

I have a light grey interior in my black gt here in Australia. It looks fantastic. One issue with the light grey seats is that it does discolour if dark clothing is used frequently. My wife and I tend to wear quite dark colours so the driver's seat does get discoloured and I keep having to clean the colour off with good quality leather cleaners. I had the same issue with the light grey interior when I had my Merc all those years ago. Agee, black does not date

Mix a BMW and an Audi and you get a Stinger. In Australia, we have a dynamics and suspension tuning guru who tunes them for Australian conditions. Result - an absolute dream machine. I love mine.

The new screen is light-years ahead of the old one, it elevates the look of the entire dashboard. I like the updated taillights as well. The new Kia logo is a bit too big, maybe make it 10% smaller? Or even better, put the Stinger script on the right side of the grille, Honda's Type R style. I agree with you on the wheels. Not pretty, but hey, at least they're not black lol. @@johnholst I absolutely love the suede interior with the red stitching and red seatbelts. Mine is standard Nappa leather. Wish we had the suede interior here in Oz. I also am fairly certain we won't be getting the Scorpion edition unfortunately

I commend Kia on making such a well sought after contender to the Ultimate driving machine. Even though I can’t stomach a 50k dollar Kia, you can’t deny you get what you pay for. The Korean company finally gave us something worth buying.

I own a 2019 GT2 AWD. I love this car. I would however be very interested in seeing a 450 HP variant, some upgrade to the suspension tuning and a dual clutch transmission.

I bought a 2019 Singer GT 1 , an end of year lot queen for $7K off the $46K sticker. Love the car but falls just a bit short on build quality, lots of interior squeaks, lift gate rattles, two factory recalls. But hey, torque comes on at 1300 RPM and you’ll be in ticket land quickly. Word is replacing the rear anti roll bar with stiffer aftermarket unit with adjustable end links fixes the back end bad behavior. Your test car looks like it has a drive by wire shifter (boo). Mine has a mechanical shifter which I prefer over paddles . Thanks for the review MM, a breath of fresh air after a steady stream of BM’s.

@@MotoManTV the shifter is same across model years but rather gt2 differs from other trims. Gt2 gets joystick like electronic shifter while lower models get mechanical.

The first recommended mod for Stingers is not a tune, but the lowering springs and/or rear sway bar. Either do wonders for that soft rear end without compromising the ride.

@@Cgee3 I got the Eibach springs and it was game changing. In addition to getting rid of the big tire gap, it eliminated the odd pogoing/seesaw motion I would occasionally experience when coming to a stop. The car sits up too high.

My favorite thing about this car is I told one of my mentors about what I bought... He bit his lip and said that this car was not a good investment. That I'm going to be loosing money hand over fist. Well... As of right now considering the market and how it's going to be for a while at least my car has actually appreciated in value. 10y 100k powertrain Reliable (3.3) with intake and valve cleaner every 8-10k and oil changes on time. Along with alignment. This is the best car to own long term. P. S don't blare your speakers with your windows halfway down along with your sunroof. THAT'S how this car starts getting cracks and rattles. Common sense on the consequences of your actions will depend on how you treat the car.

or...KIA could bump the horsepower to 400hp and drop the weight to 3,600lbs..remember when you reduce the weight you are adding horsepower. That color is gorgeous and so is the blue. Great video, smart review.

why do you think it's 20k less than the germans? they can't make it as good in every discipline, otherwise it will be a BMW. people always say they are overpriced but it's clear that they just are built better/lighter etc.

Motoman, my 2018 GT2 RWD weighs 3800# what happened? Also in 2018 my red and floor mats were included as standard. Sigh. The only option for that game we all love to play was a $50 cargo net. Safely tucked under the cargo floor for safe keeping. You and Douggy were my main influencers, thank you again.

As mentioned in the episode . . . there were a number of conflicting reports on actual weight. Kia USA did not provide weight specs for the 2022 as they have in the past . . . so the number you hear in the episode what I believe to be the most realistic figure based on the sources I was provided. I'll have to concurr on weight. My '22 GT1 Weighs in roughly 3,800 lbs. Also has the same tires as the GT2

Great review! I have a G70 with an ECU tune and a TCU tune. 0-60 3.5s. No other modifications, though I will be changing springs shortly to lower COG a bit. The platform is unbelievable. It's a joy to drive and the engine feels so under stressed at this power level. Lots of Stingers running similar setups, so much the same results other than a difference in handling.

3.5 is insanely fast. That is getting into super car league. Must be a hoot to drive when the opportunity to extend it presents itself. Would be sensational on the German Autobahn

I just bought a GT2 Saturday, and I would trade it in if they were to come out with a 450whp version of the car (especially if they put LSD in the transaxle and both axles, and make AWD highly tunable like the STI - oh, and a pure RWD/drift mode in the top trim please. Kia, maybe a GT3 trim and throw in the KDM 3D cluster and give it a hybrid rearview mirror like the Corvette while you're at it?). :)

450 OEM hp. Not happening because of homologation costs and near electrificatuon... We nerd to enjoy what is left (tune the car and upgrade the suspension on your own and it will end near 60k) and what is left is good. Knobs, button, ergonomics, hatch... Greetings Motoman.

I still prefer the original emblem over the new one because it adds contrast to the body and balances the overall look of the black detail of the car. The new emblem can use some black plastidip.

The car comes standard with All weather floor mats.. you pay extra for the carpet floor mats!

Eh, who cares? Every single non car person I know has to pay for the rubber floor mats and they end up using only those, not the carpet ones, so you might not like it, but I suspect most people greatly prefer the rubbers

@@Qkazam The GT carpet mats are extra here in Oz. I laughed when the salesman asked if I wanted them for a discount price. I always get the carpet mats thrown in as "gift with purchase" when I buy my cars. Either that or I go elsewhere. Works every time.

I enjoyed owning a 2018 Stinger GT2, and miss it often. Three things KIA prompted me to move on from this vehicle. First, the rear suspension seemed too light around corners, almost felt like the rear was lifting/hoping around corners. Second, exterior trim wasn’t holding up well, trim fading and cracking in some places even though I babied the car. Finally, the dealership and service experience didn’t match the price of the car. Wouldn’t it be great if Kia handed the Stinger over to Genesis so they could upmarket this vehicle by improving the service, suspension, engine, transmission and interior? Make it a true Audi A7/BMW 440i Grand Coupé competitor to challenge the marketplace. Then Kia could make the Telluride or upcoming EV6 their halo vehicle. Everyone wins, especially the consumer.

Good points. The exterior trim is awful along with the hood vents. Plus for that 50k p,us price, it needs to be 400hp in my opinion. If they cleaned up the exterior and bumped up the HP to 400, I’d buy one, as long as they fix the suspension like you mentioned as well.

I upgraded the rear sways. I rarely go to dealer unless it's dealer specific work, for oil changes I buy my own oil and pay local mom and pop store for labor. I really don't want to pay hundreds and not even know what oil they used. No problem with exterior trim, I have had my cars for 2.5 and 2 years.

Moto-ManTv you are so right if KIA make a Stinger with 450-500 HP they will sell like hot cake most people will forget about BWM to get a Stinger . I thought With the Scorpion 🦂 Edition they will add more HP and bring a lively exhaust unfortunately the Scorpion edition is a missed opportunity

As a former BMW driver, I find this more than sporty enough as is ('18 GT2), and love the hatch back for practicality and hailing long objects with the seats folded. The comfort level with the adjustable suspension is perfect. Comfort mode is super comfy even over large potholes and sport mode changes this to an awesome sport GT. The one thing I really would like is the upgraded trim in the '22.

I purchased a 2022 Genesis G70 recently and I could see Hyundai/Kia upgrading both the Stinger and G70 to a higher output 3.5, which would be a punch to my ego, but then again the market is always changing so no one can ever have “the best”.

@@mastertry1935 g70 has been overall better interior wise but smaller. Due to size it would handle better but rear leg space is an issue. Engine, transmission and lots of parts are shared.

I have grey in mine and it looks fantastic especially with the dark Alcantara roof lining. Only problem with light colour seats is that they do stain from wearing dark clothing so lots of cleaning required. The red leather interior in a black or dark blue Stinger is fantastic. I nearly bought my black one with the red interior but SWMBO wanted the light grey so we compromised and got the light grey.

KIA needs to continue this model. They also need to turn KIA into Hyundai's motorsport division and develop more sport tune cars, not just Hyundai clones. Otherwise, we seen what happened to GM ... at one point a Camaro was just a Firebird clone and look how that worked out for Pontiac. Also KIA needs to come up with a GT3 version that rocks 450+ hp at the wheels.

If they made a fully optioned 2.5t Stinger with all the tech and materials I'd buy it! And I totally agree! I'm so sick of the boring ubiquitous all black interior smh...however they do offer a beige interior that's on "delayed availability" safe to say I'll be waiting for that to be available!! Great video!

They do allow a fully speced out model of the 2.5T here in Korea. But it's only about 3500 bucks cheaper than the fully loaded 3.3TT. Might be different if they had it for the US market.

I guess Motoman is not aware, KIA is killing off The Stinger, so sad really like this car, but it didn't sell enough. It had all the right stuff, good pricing, great looks, good options, all wheel drive, but America loves SUV's and crossovers so much. Very, very sad.

New screen IS GOOD, but huge sin, leaving out one of Kia’s biggest killer apps, the screens in the gauge cluster that show your blind spots when you turn on the blinker

@@cls63amgwagon34 It is the best they could do with the non digital gauges and is almost as good I suppose. I saw it in a video and it is a bit off putting having both sides in the same place depending on which side you are going to with a little indicator I think to tell you which side you are seeing, and it is a slightly weird shape filling in the gap between the two round gauges if I recall correctly. You had better not be driving very tired or drunk and indicate the wrong way on a multilane road or it could get dangerous thinking it is clear when it is not. That is a long shot chance of that ever happening but it is long shots that cause a lot of accidents. Somebody will eventually do it. Of course the Genesis version is better but you can’t have everything.

I have a 2021 Stinger GT1 RWD. $2000 in mods gets you to 400 wheel horsepower easily.

Car don't prove it self with a utubers, or horse power. This car have to be proving on a race track against competitors with Acura, Honda, BMW, Mercedes,Mazda, Toyota, Porsche, Ford etc. This is the proper way to judge performance.

RIP Also, you might be smoking some amazing s$*t if you believe people are looking to spend anywhere north of 60k on a Kia product without the aid of future inflationary forces. Even the now defunct K900 never tried to cost so much...and that actually was a solid luxury car. Further, nobody was paying 53k for these Stingers for the vast majority of its production run. The value proposition laid in the Gt Line 4 cylinder models that priced MSRP around the 30k's. The 4 cylinders haven't been selling mostly due to a in-brand product overlap with the top trim Optimas/K5's feature wise. Kia knows the GT1 and GT2 are overpriced and, up until the past year or so, made a regular habit of discounting the MSRP of these by around 7k minimum. This was also probably a necessary measure to help offset the tremendous depreciation hit that the new car owner was going to take on the car since Kia's are not known for holding value. God help any poor soul who agreed to pay full MSRP on a car loan for a new top trim Stinger GT in the last year or so. Unless they put a ton of cash down, when the inflated prices that are industry wide right now go away and join up with the already poor depreciation value on these, we are going to see a lot of people saddled with huge negative equity on their cars and will end up upside down on their car loans.

As I have said many times before, they are a steel company masquerading as a car company. So, yes, they do use A LOT of high strength steel but in reality, most of their cars - especially on the lower end, are significantly lighter than the competition with the use of UHSS.

@@jrslugwell let’s be clear. GT2 with red exterior. Only black interior since 2018, to my knowledge. In the US. Red interior has been in numerous colors but red/red was in 2018 and I missed my opportunity. My dealer located one in San Diego. They wouldn’t flatbed it. Only drive it. I had a pit in my stomach about it being driven 150 miles not by me. My dealer sweetened the red/black GT2 RWD he had with 12 miles and all the shrink wrap still on it in the back of three other cars on a lot. So only Kia drove it in transport. I’d be the only driver not Kia. I bought it.

@@jbs256 Here in Oz, the red interior was an option on the black, dark blue and white GT's which is the top of the range. I seriously thought about getting the red interior for my black GT when I bought it last year. SWMBO decided on the light grey which was an option on the black, dark blue and I think red GT's. Red is still an option on some colours for the new models released recently.

Great review as always. The Koreans give you more bang for the buck in a luxury sport sedan than the Germans. By the way they do have different interior colors to choose from.

My GF’s Audi cost more than my 2021 GT1 Stinger. And It is worse in literally every way…sound system, acceleration, features, looks etc. Not to mention people are constantly giving me a thumbs up and asking about my car. Meanwhile nobody even looks twice at her Audi…ever.

Actually my friend the Audi has had 3 warranty repairs. The Stinger has had only had oil changes, and rear Michelin Pilot Sports that wear quicker than expected.( The Audi is only 3 months older and has less miles) As for interior fit and finish, the squeaky sunroof in the Stinger is the only poor aspect. The difference in everything else is only slight, definitely not enough to make up for the other shortcomings in the Audi. You need a $100K Audi to get the huge difference in interior feel I think your referring to. Take away the badge and our A6 does not justify the higher price…it just doesn’t 🤷🏾♂️….and side note the Audi guzzles oil like gas.

@@1scubas2 In Australia, an equivalent specced Audi is approximately twice the cost of the Stinger, that is approximately AUD $70K. I have no issue with the sunroof in mine. In fact, I very rarely ever use the sunroof in any of the cars I have had. I agree about the very slight difference in quality. I certainly don't think it is worth twice the price.

Kia defense needs to make a two door coupe version of the Stinger. They could call it the Stinger GT-C (Grand Turismo-Coupé) and would compete with cars like the Camaro, Challenger and Mustang.

1. Stinger / Arteon. Both very good cars that virtually no one buys. 2. It still has a stupid small gas tank. The range in the Kia is terrible. 3. The gas mileage ain't that good considering the low drag coefficient of the Kia. 4. It's a good deal, but the money off just isn't worth it. 5. Did I mention the small gas tank?

Greg, I have done the Melbourne - Sydney trip a couple of times here in Oz since owning my Stinger. I filled up after doing close to 650 kays and it still said the range was about 75kays until totally empty. That is not bad for such a big car with a 60 liter tank

It can do much better than rated, I easily get 28-30 on most highway trips, and frequently push 30+ on day long road trips. But let's be real, no one's buying this for fuel economy...

@@Randazler -- That's pretty remarkable. I was lucky to average 22mpg in my 2014 Elantra. Not sure how your 3.3L turbocharged V6 Kia Stinger can do 25 / 31, especially since it's rated at 17 city and 20 highway.

Not quite as nice as BMW and the quality simply isn’t there. Performance falls below the Germans. Just my experience with it.

@@jlo6388 I had a 7 year old Optima that was trouble free till the high pressure fuel pump died. Dealer replaced for free under “silent warranty”. Tell me about 7 year old German cars. Every independent mechanic I’ve known has said never bring any German car fir service. YMMV

Kia will never again credibility with people having knowledge of true performance. Kia need to prove its performance against competitors on the race track with a team. what are they afraid of. Tesla is meaning every challenge with model s plaid in pikes peak, on the track against McLaren, Ferrari. Etc. Utubers, horse power is not credibility
