Excellent review, perfect for new buyers as a lot of information can be lost if given in short period of time. This way people can review after their purchase to take more info in. Ed, hope that car went on a charger after you finished filming, EV’s don’t like to sit at that low state for long.
@edsgarage0013 жыл бұрын
That was the first thing I did afterwards. But I also sold this one within a day of making the video. It's not a big deal if it's only for a few days, but yes if they're left discharged for weeks at a time, that can be detrimental. Also, 8% on the screen isn't a true representation of the actual charge. You can only see the actual percent (which would be higher) using an OBD2 scanner or reader and phone/with app.

Hey Ed - we took delivery of our 2023 Kona Ultimate EV in Black last Thursday...Holy Crap! I have owned well over a 100 cars/trucks in my 50 years of driving and I cannot remember a car that puts as big a smile on my face as this car does! Hyundai has done an awesome job on this thing...wife and I put 500km on it in 2 days! Love it! As for Hyundai making their own steel Hyundai is an incredibly large company that builds more than just cars and steel, they are also one of the biggest electric motor and drive system manufacturer (I was involved in selling/servicing large electric motors - up to 7500 hp+) so they are a pretty interesting company! Anyway love the car and your reviews are excellent! Mike 🇨🇦 🍁 👍

Awesome vids thanks for the walkthrough! Just ordered one from my dealer here in Qc!! Do you know if I can swap the led headlights from ultimate onto my preferred model? And last question, do both models use heat pumps for heating/cooling? Thanks!
@edsgarage0012 жыл бұрын
Thx for the comment! As for the LEDs, it would be much easier and cheaper to just add led bulbs to the existing headlight assemblies. Although the ultimate headlights do look cooler. But the wiring is going to be quite different and the pcm would probably have issues with it. All Canadian models have heat pumps, yes.

got the 2021 ultiamte. for 4200 off. its a great car. the tires are shit in the rain - hopefully they're fine in the snow. it has enough space in the back with the seats down that i fit a 24 inch dishwasher in the box. dont expect to stuff 5 people in the car and have any room though. it IS small. but thats what you're buying - a sub compact suv cross over hatchback thingie. its not a ford explorer. range is excellent and is as advertised. you will get well over 325 miles in and around town when you arent cranking the ac / heat.

Is the IoniqEV (original)discontinued for 2022? I have not seen anything about a 2022 Ioniq EV only the new Ioniq 5. I have a 2019 Ioniq PHEV and was considering moving to full EV but not sure I want to buy a 2021 Ioniq if this model is discontinued. I am presuming the Ioniq 5 will be more expensive and tough to get in BC although I have not seen Canadian pricing for Ioniq 5.
@edsgarage0013 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will be discontinued. But I don't see any reason to avoid purchasing the current 21 Ioniq ev 🤷 the incentives to do so are phenomenal.

Does the Regen level 3 make the car stop when you stop accelerating ? Or do you still need to hold the left paddle ? Looking for one pedal driving without touching the paddle.
@edsgarage0012 жыл бұрын
In the Kona, you need to pull the left paddle to come to a complete stop, otherwise it creeps at about 10kph. What you want, is the ioniq5. That one has i-pedal which brings the car to a complete stop without doing anything aside from lifting your foot off the accelerator.

Thx for the comment! In regards to the Kona, it actually makes sense to be fwd, as The vehicle is based on the gas model, which in its most basic configuration is also fwd. The future Ioniq 5 is a dedicated platform, and will start with rwd but will also have optional awd

Why does it have an engine?
@edsgarage0012 жыл бұрын
It doesn't 😐 Under the hood there's: -The electric motor -The single reduction gear box -The battery temperature management system -the HVAC (heat pump) system -the braking system -the inverter -the AC/DC converter -the accessory battery -the power steering system -the radiator for the battery/motor cooling system -the heat exchanger for the heat pump -the motor controller --etc. I'm sure I'm missing some things. This is actually pretty common, it's the same in many other EVs. Only newer designed EVs are starting to hide all that and add front trunks, like the upcoming Hyundai ioniq5.
