The 2nd row lack of everything is a major deal breaker for a luxury suv like that
@dougrobinson8602
@dougrobinson8602 2 жыл бұрын
I'd contend that the lack of front seat massagers is an even bigger deal breaker. I don't know what the buyer demographics are for this thing, but I'd guess that it's double income no kids. Maybe they get used as family haulers, but if that were the customer base, I'd expect Lexus would have made it more kid friendly. Lexus listens to customers, unlike BMW. Also unlike BMW, Lexus respects the hardcore "Lexus or nothing" early adopter. BMW has almost completely abandoned the owners who bought them in the '70's when they were a boutique brand for enthusiasts. I'm one of those BMW guys, and apart from the M2 CS, (which is basically unobtainium) they've got nothing that even remotely interests me.

This specific spec is just a luxury one. The normal lx will obviously be the bulk of the sales, just like few people buy gls Maybach. It's very rare to spec a 4 Seater suv. I would. I don't ever intend to have kids and 4 people is the most I drive with. But it's not a normal spec and can hurt resale value.

Drove an LX600 (F-sport) today with the consideration of purchasing, which landed me here. Once again, another stellar (and spot-on) analysis of this vehicle gentlemen, well done. I made the comment to the salesman the secondary screen appeared to be an after thought. Overall though, I really enjoyed the ride quality of it. In a bizarre way, I felt it was a splendid combination of my LC500 and my 10 year old 200 Series Land Cruiser that this would be replacing. I'm a long time Toyota/Lexus fan, reliability and resale ranks very high in my book for this type of vehicle. It will be an investment, but if history repeats itself, buying a Toyota/Lexus is far less risky. Thanks again for the input/review.

And what’s wrong with reliability being the focal point of this car. There’s a reason these thrive in Australia and Middle East because there’s a market that prioritizes reliability over gimmicky features. It’s nowhere close to Germans in tech, but excels in long term ownership and owners satisfaction, and there’s a big demand for that here in the Middle East you can’t have both.

As a salesperson for the Lexus brand, reliability has been the strongest selling point in my career. But recently, with the introduction of the NX and LX, I’ve had to foreshadow my clients experience with, “you are buying a brand new, fully redesigned vehicle, therefore, you are agreeing to be a test subject for the next several months while Lexus works out all the kinks found from real world testing. You will probably encounter an issue or some idiosyncrasies within the first year of ownership, but we are here to help you because we want you to have the best ownership experience possible.” Instilling patience in my guests has been the best method to maintain loyalty to the Lexus brand.

Great review, interesting the point made a few times about some brands making disposable vehicles. A video comparing build quality, price and buyer would be interesting. If you sit in a 2010 Lexus LX everything is tight and more importantly functions as intended even at 200,000 miles and several owners. A 2010 Escalade not only feels really cheap with creaks, rattles etc, but will most certainly be falling apart at 200,000 miles. I feel the same about a 2022 Escalade, although the Lexus is more modest the Escalade will feel dated/cheap in 2032. .

On the other hand anything you put in the door pockets rattle on this when new because it's all plastic, in my €25k Skoda they're lined with fabric to stop stuff from rattling around. We have also owned a 2001 lx470 which was traded towards the 2013, also had zero issues. Lexus has always felt dated in terms of technology, but we don’t mind it. Is it overpriced? Yes, but most cars are nowadays. We keep our vehicles long term, and we don’t care about fancy bells and whistles. Hopefully the new lx will be as reliable as the others have been. I saw on your live Q and A that you were short some cash, maybe you could start buying used cars and doing them up to sell while documenting the journey could be fun for you and it would be interesting to watch. then you could have content for expensive cars and affordable cars. whatever happens good luck and thanks for everything you've done so far.

I'm still annoyed at why the Sequoia has better features on paper and bang for your buck than this. Its almost like they didn't want this to do better. No disconnecting sway bars, no panoramic sunroof, no locking diffs (although MTS is better IMO). No hybrid. The sequoia makes 100ftlbs more in torque given that its a hybrid. I was hoping the LX would kick it up. The sequoia's torque numbers alone make it a crazy truck in its own right. I hope they do more with the LX. I can't believe I'm already wanting for an update.

The biggest flaw in the 2022 LX is that it will be a very low distribution model unlike the 80, 100, and 200 series Land Cruisers and LXs. Toyota might sell a couple thousand a year. Instead of being a vibrant parts market, after a few years parts will be impossible to find.

Really good, fair review. I share a lot of the same concerns. I have the 2016 model, and it's tough as nails, yet supremely luxurious. The European options aren't even close when it comes to durability and resale value. I wished they would have done more to update the LX600 (panoramic sunroof, power rear sunshades, fully adjustable rear seats), and I don't see any value in upgrading my current model with this one. Maybe the mid-cycle refresh will improve things some.

The Straight Pipes review said the audio system slaps harder than Will Smith, so it's interesting to see your opinion on it (may have been a different version?). What I love about you guys is that you're not afraid to call out when a company is resting on its laurels...which this vehicle seems to be. Lexus knows they'll sell a million of them anyway, so why do better? Mind you, that's the same attitude the Americans automakers had in the 60's and 70's, and look how that worked out for them.

@@kevinyeh8891 I don't mind them being slow to adopt new tech; I drive an 08 Fiesta and the classic triple-knob HVAC interface in it is far superior to a touchscreen.
