2022 MDX Supercharged ? mockup fitment

Hi everyone. This is a video that I was hoping to share with the community after successfully installing a supercharger. Unfortunately, days later when i was reviewing the footage and I was making a template for the top plate, I came to realize that I was at a stopping point.
In the video you see me remove the massive air intake box. This is helpful for doing the spark plug replacement or other gasket replacement, so I decided to share this.
Also, I made this video to help promote the other honda acura texas channels as shown in the video. It takes a lot of effort to make content as I am learning. Everyone who loves cars has to spend their own money and time to do it. I hope some day to monetize this so it can feed my car funds. But for now, I do this because I love to wrench as a hobby.

OMG.....why did Acura go with this intake box??? That motor still has the same stock 290BHP.... so do gain or difference in power? Did they ever explain or post anywhere what the difference is/was with this style of Air Box over the previous? Or was it just a engine cosmetic change to charge $XX.XX for a different style air filter and make it harder to throw a intake or make any changes?

I think the design was to fill the engine bay since it sits much lower inside the engine bay. It also probably helps silence the intake by taking it through many bends and curves. Think about how loud an accord short ram intake is. I would love it but probably 90% or more adults do not want it loud. The forums have many people complain about road noise or an electrical hum from the throttle or turbo (typeS) or other sounds. There is a website that sells 3.5" custom adapters with the MAF but its expensive for what it is. You gotta love the sound to do it.

I think people are already adding TypeS horsepower gains. So base TypeS 355HP plus JB4 addition up to an extra 80 HP. So around 435 HP and I haven't seen any issues on any forum with the transmission. The Honda engineers really limited the 1st gear. Its shift pretty early into 2nd as to save the gear. I'd assume we could do the same with the same transmission. What do you think?

How much more HP and Torque did you get? I assume you had to reprogram the ECU to adjust fuel consumption as well as gas mixture?

How would a j37 manifold work ?

The design is different than the previous years. There are injectors on the manifold for previous years before direct injection. The shapes are different. Maybe a plastic Odyssey manifold will work with a Dremel. Not sure yet.

Just to put it out there, there are kits to supercharge the MDX. But as always, this will void the warranty for the car specially a 2022. The Type S is a turbo combined with 6 cylinder engine and while it’s factory, is probably a better option than to do it yourself. Specially in a car that is still under warranty.

Nothing for the supercharger. I moved onto the HUD and 360 camera retrofit to try out. I am still trying to find an Advanced cluster that has the outputs to make the HUD work.

Uhh, I know I’m not going to be the first asshole that says this but, why not just get a Type S in the first place?

The type-S is only a 3.0L vs the base model's 3.5L. It also redlines/shifts at exactly 6000rpm vs 7000rpm. The type S has a very small turbo (hence the low redline) and finally, no VTEC

Hi JJFLD ! Thanks for commenting as any comments help at this point. I like tinkering with cars. The MDX was purchased the first month it came out. I have enjoyed it and wanted to mess with it and add in features not available on the lower models. I spent 63,000 on this and I know the mark ups on the Type-S were kind of crazy at first. It was usually MSRP plus 10,000 or more. So once you are in the 75000 range, the alternatives are BMW which I love and have owned many of them. In fact I still own a 2007 manual 6 speed single turbo 335i with only 60000 miles. Its my fun car. I guess I could just trade it in and take a loss of 10,000 or more and pay 20,000 to get into the Type-s or just add a supercharger. That was my thought.

@@macgyvergarage2016 my goodness your garage sounds too similar to mine.💀 I have a 2009 335i 6MT & 2019 RDX. I really want to see someone make an intake for the new MDX, it’s just way too quiet and it’s the last new Acura with VTEC, I want to hear the damn engine!

@@JJFLD , I thought about buying a cnc machined 3" adapter and putting a K&N but after looking at the drop in filter, and seeing how easy it was to do, i just paid the $69. I made a video on it. I will see if i can find the link i had to the company selling the adapter. Then you would remove your big intake box, use the adapter, use the OEM MAF sensor, and any 3" opening K&N. There is a ton of room. I even thought about using the really big Corvette intake cone to take up space.
