2022 MDX HUD And 360 Camera Retrofit??
Hey everyone! I purchased some parts to try out a retrofit of the HUD and wanted to share my experience as I learned about the part numbers, researched the harnesses in the Aspec, and pulled apart the interior.

Buddy, you and me are on the same page. I've been thinking about doing the same upgrade myself and i'm so very disappointed to see that it aint gonna happen. Thanks for going through all that trouble so i don't have to. Shame on Acura ! You couldn't have explained our pain and frustration any better.

My wife and I got a RDX ASpec Advance and a MDX Advance. I never purchased a RDX in the past because I wanted an ASpec but it was missing the items I desired, HUD, Birds Eye View, etc. We got the MDX Advance because of the needed features but I think the ASpec is the beauty of the bunch. Acura should realize they are losing buyers without offering the MDX in the ASpec Advance package.

They listened a little bit by adding in some features but they called it the PMC edition the first time and now they call it the ASPEC/ADV and charge the money as an ADV. They totally screw up with offering items in honda vehicles for refreshes before even offering it in Acura. The 2023 pilot has 360 degree ACTIVE birds eye on the Trailsport version for offroad viewing of trails. It would have been awesome to have that on the MDX as the first . What a shame.

I have a Type S and I cannot believe it did not come with at least a front camera if not the 360 degree.

Agreed, having one part to rule them all would’ve made manufacturing the vehicle much easier for everyone. Maybe buying the advance cluster would make this work.

Great effort - you sir are a gentleman and a scholar for going through all of that effort so others could see and know what is/is not possible. How do you access the "SECRET" menu for the in the MDX? Any useful info in there that regular joe-blows could use? I'm a new Gen 4 MDX owner and am finding your videos quite useful!

Acura is offering the A Spec Advanced Trim for the 2025 MDX. What really sucks though is that the RDX A Spec Advanced has all the features you mentioned but the 360 camera is garbage due to the really poor resolution and the fact that it does not take up the whole screen.

I have considered to upgrade to the new 25' Aspec to get the camera but with inflation and no deals, it doesn't make sense to get rid of the 1.9% for a higher rate and larger payment. I honestly thought about getting a 24' type s advanced to get a deal and better engine, but my financial brain tells me to not do it.

Would the 22 mdx type s have the connections on the dash cluster being closer to the advanced than the a spec? And in your case are you not able get a type s advanced cluster and then it would work ? Along with the wire harness between those two parts since you’re saying there’s two and ones missing? It’s weird but I was literally just wondering if this was possible to do on my 22 mdx type s and then your video came up in my feed. I think another part you didn’t mention was the button on the end of the stock to activate the 360 cameras. Are you on other platforms to talk more in depth with people? Love the content, keep up the good work.

Hi, i think the type s base and the type s advanced are like the normal mdx aspec/tech and mdx advanced. So basically if you don't have the advanced cluster and harnesses, the items are not there to plug into. As for the 360 camera stalk button is only around 59 dollars on the online acura parts warehouse. You would still be missing the camera module to combine the image and the wires/cables to connect all of them. Ive thought about using an aftermarket system and possibly connecting to the input of the nav screen where there is an empty input for the camera.

Great video, wish it had a happier ending. Did you happen to open the back of your cluster (if possible) and look where the plug should be? I'm curious if there is any internal wiring capped on the inside of your cluster. Perhaps only the back panels are different between the models to deter diy upgrades?

I did not open the back of the cluster because i had a scheduled appointment and did not want to cause an additional issue. After it was put all together i just left it as is for now.

Great video. Was hoping for a better outcome. Do you think replacing the cluster would complete the HUD portion? I would think some reprogramming would be needed to adapt the updated cluster. You make some great points at the end, about Acura package choices However, it seem they have limited features in their bag to make the various packages. Hi yeah it looks like its the right list of items to make it work, but the wires and camera cables are not there. For the headsup display its missing the cables from the cluster to the HUD. I think the wires at the hud switch were there as it shares all the same ground and power to turn on all the features, if my memory serves correctly. We could now start looking for junkyard parts for sure on advanced models to get what we want until we can figure out the right connector ends and make our own harnesses.
