I can tell your viewers why the MM2H was changed with such drastic new income requirements. It was brought to our govt's attention by the local real estate agents, that too many wealthy Mainlanders from China (many are CCP members) are snapping up many of our landed properties/condos even agricultural lands per person/couple at an alarming rate. These wealthy Chinese were taking advantage of the old MM2H requirement loopholes. That's why the govt suddenly changed it..mainly to deter the Mainland Chinese without offending or inviting wrath from the CCP govt.

Well, the government can implement some sort of quota maximum by country then. The thing is though, your government is naive to think oh by just raising the requirements the rich and famous will find Malaysia sooooo desirable. Uh, no. Rich people do not like to be told what to do nor like to be told that they have to stay in the country for a minimum time. The rich will simply go elsewhere. Just look at how many people have applied since the change. A drop in the bucket.

@@Ribble.B087 First of all, not a Mainlander. Second of all, I think even you would agree that if you were promised something by your government and later it was changed you might be a bit salty about it too. Don't you think that people who made the commitment to Malaysia by selling everything to go there should not have been told at least initially that sorry rules changed now? What happened to credibility and your WORD? Worth pennies, apparently....

exactly, around 50,000 chinese went missing in 1 year, got in but never go out. this is unhealthy. Although we welcome hong kongoer or mainland, but need to take account the consequent towards malaysian poeple. I use to work in singapore 3-4 years back, the singapoeran malay, chinese, indian all united really have a negative perception towards the mainland.

Andrew, I really appreciate your KZfaq channel, your friendly, affable way of presenting facts and sharing your own experiences with your subscribers stands out pleasantly from other posts. This video particularly spoke to me because my wife and I are specifically considering spending our retirement in Malaysia. We have chosen Penang as our location. We would have easily met the requirement of the old version MM2H program; the new scheme is extremely ambitious in its requirements, so we are seriously considering whether Malaysia can then remain the favored emigration country. We have heard about the options in Sarawak and Sabah - S-MM2H visa - and are currently sounding out the possibilities agency-wise. In January 2023 we will be there for a longer stay and will take care of the formalities directly. In Europe, specifically in Germany, Malaysia is practically unknown as a retirement home, since many Germans and Swiss have oriented themselves towards Thailand, which is out of the question for us. I would be happy if one or the other reader with the same intention as we have, writes here and brings his experiences. Please continue with your great channel ...

be EXTREMELY CAREFUL, CONSIDER DEEPLY AND LONG before buying property as a foreigner. as a foreigner, there are multitudes of absolute horror stories of property deals/ownerships gone wrong that are still yet to be fully resolved decades later; even locals are not immune when their luck is bad enough. if you insist on buying a property, MAKE SURE YOU BUY ONE WITH A PROPER OFFICIAL TITLE (STRATA OR OTHERWISE) AND NOT JUST A CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS. beware of issues with property owners not paying strata management fees and trustworthiness of strata management not being responsible and accountable (failure to meticulously record ALL money collected and spent, be responsible and accountable for exactly how and why the money was spent in the way it was) is rife. am personally involved in such a situation myself - after decades, still no title and no resolution in sight; no trust in strata management and all those involved. DO NOT BUY PROPERTY UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO WALK AWAY FROM IT or just buy a bare-bones cheap simple one you can afford to just forget about if the proverbial hits the fan (i'd just rent if i were you - let the property owner worry about maintenance and strata fees) as besides property woes, if/when it happens, it might coincide with VISA issues detrimentally affecting your ability to remain in-country to attempt to sort out the problems; and when issues arise, dont expect orderly, logical, fair, prompt operation of the various bureaucracies and legal system - its going to be even worse than whatever nightmare you can imagine. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH FINANCIAL STRENGTH TO CONDUCT LEGAL ACTION. even then, it's practically hit-or-miss; may well be just burning even more money. when $h1t hits the fan you'd more likely than not be met with excuses instead of positive constructive help. be prepared to even be blamed for your predicament even though you are clearly not the cause of it; you only were doing something and reasonably expecting things to happen as it should. the people who are expected to do their job and assist you to fix an oversight might likely even get really abusive at and be belligerent towards you ALTHOUGH often you'd be a little luckier and treated better if you clearly look and sound like a white caucasian foreigner. just to give you a little idea about how crazy things can get. i recently had an issue with getting my expiring atm card replaced. nothing unique or special in and of itself. an operation that has well established procedures that has been in existence for decades. it took me 6 months to get a refund for a fee i wasnt supposed to have been charged and actually get the replacement card in hand. the people i tried to contact at the bank just kept giving me the the run around parsing me from one department to the next with more not getting in contact with me. i couldnt get anyone to seriously attend to my issue always being given superficial insincere non-constructive appeasement that got me no where. when i finally got someone to actually begin to do something, these people didnt actually know what to do. along the process, i was actually told to sign away my legal rights and provide my PIN as requirement for replacement of expiring atm card. was just so close to actually reporting the whole card issuing department to malaysia's central bank and police. the bank manager eventually gave the lame excuse that there was just a misunderstanding; there was an actual form with clear wording and phrasing where no misunderstanding was ever possible. i had read reports of this exact same thing happening before. btw, refund came from a bank employee's personal bank account. this said employee was CC'ed in the email that involved the PIN request. one would normally expect a transaction note stating something like "Adjustment" or "Charge Reversal". HOW SUSPICIOUS WAS ALL THAT I ASK YOU...... malaysia can be a nice place to be and live BUT be extremely wary and ALWAYS ACT IN WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF AS BEST YOU CAN.

It's not just the mainlander China nationals that the government is worried about , it's also from the Indian peninsula countries that are able to meet the previous requirements...to a point that the Bangladeshi nationals would sell their property and businesses in their country and relocate their business startup to Malaysia by marrying locals...hence maintaining the extremely lucrative businesses via their local Malaysian spouses.

The changes are exaggerated and disproportional to other SEA countries. It's a huge jump. Any pensioner with a MONTHLY income of 40000MYR or 9000USD....is likely to move elsewhere. That's 108k a year!!!! Plus assets and bank deposit! It's OTT. If there was problem with a group dominating the program, then quota restrictions should have been put in place. Plus limits on real estate purchases. I was really considering mainland Malaysia and for now it has evaporated. Let's hope someone reviews the amounts to a more realistic level.

Sarawak My 2nd Home has increased the annual residence requirement to 30 days. Unfortunately Kuching is pleasant enough, but 3 days is enough to see it. 30 days is not realistic. Taylor, thank you again for all of the visa information that you have provided. I made a final decision and will not be using Malaysia's retirement visa. I do not want to live in Sarawak or be forced to spend thirty day per year there. I would only choose to live in KL or Penang and I do not trust the Malaysian government allowing that to continue on the Sarawak visa. I also do not trust any Malaysian provincial government not to change the rules again and make things even more difficult. I am going to retire to the Philippines instead. Their retirement visa program is better and cheaper. I will though take advantage of Malaysia's ninety day tourist visa for extended trips to visit. I plan on doing extensive traveling through out southeast Asia and only need a "home base" which the Philippines will provide quite nicely.

As promised you delivered the Blog on S-MM2H program details. I reviewed it on the net too and it seems to be much more lenient in requirements than the old MM2H of West Malaysia. I wonder how much the Agents charge for the service even though as you say one can apply on their own. On the surface the S-MM2H looks like a good one. Just spend the 15 days travelling around East Malaysia to fulfill the requirements and then move to your choice of city in the west. By the way how much would be the private healthcare premium for some one 65 plus and do you know of some insurers that you know. Our Medicare system should be made available overseas and the federal govt can save billions of $$ they spend by allowing availing Medicare overseas. I know Blue Cross allows members enrolled in employer plan to claim services rendered overseas. 4 years back i had 4 crowns, Root canal, cavity and all done in India for about $1050 and was able to claim on my Dental insurance. Dont know why the US Medicare is so dumb in not allowing medical care overseas for Medicare members. Did you say you are KL now. Have a Good week! Selamat Paagi.

Thinking the new government changed the MM2H to make it very difficult to discourage Chinese investment.Seems the new government not as China friendly as the old . That garden city next to Singapore would basically be all Chinese mainlanders and some didn’t like that for some reason. Don’t think they will get a lot of people that get a $120,000 a year pension deciding to pull up stakes and move to SE Asia if you are making that much retired chances are you got a pretty cushy life where ever you are now

I believe the sudden change in MM2H policy is not well thought out or thought through, as it has negative impact on real estate agents. The government has suddenly raised the bar so high, they have cut off the business of these agents for would-be retirees who would be tenants for local properties. At the same time, local property owners are also affected with the sudden shrinkage in potential tenants. So now the government welcomes only the super rich to retire here. But the super rich are few in numbers. If it's any consolation, the government has a habit to flip-flop on their policies. 😂

My sister lives in Malaysia for 30 years now. She is a journalist. She is from UK and married a local architect in the late 1990s. I think she has permanent residence now. Not sure, but she wouldn't need this scheme would she? She's in her mid fifties. Malaysia is beautiful country, if you don't look too deep, but dig a little deeper and there are lots of not so nice things happening. There is a lot of serious corruption. Also you risk upsetting the authorities at your peril if you do or say anything they do not agree with nor like. They do boot foreign nationals out. I went up to Terrenganu about 20 years ago and it was seriously oppressive. It felt like being in Iran. They closed down all the beach resorts, one a beautiful eco lodge complex that was left to rot as to was viewed as being too decadent and western. Couldn't have been further from the truth. On the west coast the Chinese have started a massive land reclamation project adjacent to Melaka destroying the coastal ecosystems. KL in the 1990s was a really happening vibrant city, a fraction of the size it is now. There has been so much development in the last 25 years much of it not for the better and fuelled by corruption. I was shocked when I visited in 2018. I have sub'd to your channel as you have good content and are an engaging presenter.
