I can buy 3 or even maybe 4 used liter bikes or even 2 new liter bikes for the price of a Norton. For that reason I’m out. 59,000 for 1 Norton bike no thanks. 59,000 not including sales tax or dealership fees.

Everything should have a reason... I do remember the rotary Nortons I love... they were special indeed.. we were racing those then too... For this one I do not see a point... materials and stuff do not make the game these days... just a thought...

Thanks for the thoughtful review. Beautiful bike! Totally concur about the SportSmart Mk3 tires... they came on my new bike too, hard as rock in cooler weather! Even lowsided on a new S1000R just doing parking lot maneuvers. Immediately changed to Michelins and so far so much more confidence.

'Ultimate British Sports Bike for the road'? I think Triumph might have something to say about that, given they're marketing the Speed Triple 1200 RR in pretty much exactly the same way. Although, given that has similar power; the same torque; less weight and semi-active suspension and yet costs significantly less than half the Norton's price I know which direction I'd be heading in. Actually, I'm probably heading to BMW, given that the S1000RR Sport undercuts even the Triumph.
@GarryMcGovern
@GarryMcGovern 2 жыл бұрын
If you saw them both side by side, there is no comparison. I saw both at the NEC last December (you can watch the review video on my channel if you're REALLY bored), and I was really disappointed with the Triumph in the flesh (and I honestly do own 3 - a 71 Bonneville, a 955 Daytona and a 675 Racebike). The Norton though was a work of art, and to me was worth every penny (if you had that sort of dosh of course!). People spend stupid amounts of money on paintings and sculptures and crap that I will never understand, but if I had a tax-dodged mountain of moolah sat doing nothing under the chaise longue - I'd have one of these in a heartbeat. Though the Cafe Racer concept/prototype they also had at the show was even more lustworthy........ I just need to find a Tory MP to sign off on a massive PPE contract with me, then I'll be straight in!

Is it just me or does the styling feel dated, but not in that "retro on purpose" sort of way like the MV Superveloce?
@commentaryking5165
@commentaryking5165 2 жыл бұрын
@@GarryMcGovern I haven't seen it in person but I have seen enough pictures of the finished product and the manufactured pieces separately. They use all beautifully manufactured cnc and Carbon materials with excellent craftsmanship and good attention to detail, but I'm speaking specifically of the styling. The round headlights placed into triangular recesses is a very dated styling cue and although I like the proportions of the tail section, its shape looks more like it belongs on a Cafe racer than a super sport and the rear lighting appears to be stuck on as if an after thought. The additional covers underneath the subframe also feel tacked on and less integrated and again seem like they belong on a Cafe racer. The overall design doesn't seem to feel cohesive and polished (especially considering the pricetag), but that's just one designers opinion 😉.
@visordown
@visordown 2 жыл бұрын
I guess it comes down to it being designed quite a long time ago, it's just taken that long to get into the hands of customers.

@commentaryking5165 2 жыл бұрын
@@visordown Agreed, That would definitely seem be the case. Unfortunately, when that happens (which happens more often than people realize), most projects delay further for a design update. Again, at this cost, it's just hard to justify.

59,000 USD but virus protection not included that’s extra. Since Norton makes anti viruses for computers. Ha but yes 59,000 British would be a hard sell since you have a lot of other companies with just as good bike for a lot less in price. Even Ducati Panigale V4 is 40,000, Yamaha YZF R1M 26,299 usd , Ninja H2R 56,500, and so on. Price or a Norton owner as you fly by past them is priceless.

At 44k there having a laugh, very strange segment to try and market the bike at, not too sure you will see many on the road. May end up being a big flop, I'd like to see Norton focusing on heritage naked roadsters at an affordable price like the commando/dominator. Can't help but think history will repeat itself an Norton will self destruct..

Should have said the price (unless I missed that bit) but it's £44000 That is stupid and it's the wrong segment to aim for too I'd have thought a naked semi-retro style will appeal much more and with sensible prices Norton could build on their immense heritage Then wheel out the expensive stuff in a few years once confidence in the brand is back on track It's not a premuim brand, despite what the marketing people think, it has a reputation for poor customer service and poor management. And it's that that's needing to be addressed and the only way is with solid, affordable products and reliable, solid service. This is going to fail, again.

Here's an idea....Why not test a road bike on the road?.....The result might be more relevant to the small minority that have £44,000 to blow in on a motorcycle....Hopefully Nortons next model will be one with a more attainable price tag.....Any commentator who thinks it's underpowered because it's less than 200BHP is a dreamer who spends too much time comparing statistics.....Most riders wouldn't know what to do with that much power...

The frame looks bird-cage-like. Needs a futuristic frame. Plus, the seat fastening button is childish. Maybe an unlock button on the main screen. Just a simple solenoid would be fine. The muffler looks like a military surplus implement. Has to be integrated better, with stealth. Other than that, the bike is dandy.

I truly have my fingers crossed for the Norton brand. The previous owner definitely burned all the bridges with the dealers in the U.S. causing a few to go into bankruptcy backing the warranty issues themselves. I'm still open to the new ownership of Norton BUT they need to prove they and their bikes can be trusted in Europe first. I think then they will need a couple reliable distributors in the U.S. and a hundred or so dealerships spread over the country. Finally they don't have to be cheap but they need to be beautiful and reliable to sell in any decent numbers. Hopefully they won't follow Moto Guzzis model and have dealerships spread 500 miles apart.

@visordown

knocking that off the price of the number of bikes they are building would have cost TVS and Norton 5,000,000! there is no way they would. Plus, the history of what happened in the Garner era Norton is nothing to do with TVS, they are actually trying to clean the mess up.
