2022 Pontiac Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park! From Lucore Automotive

It's that time of year again when the Ponchos take over the entire complex at Summit Motorsports park in Norwalk Ohio for the Pontiac Nationals! This year is even more exciting with us being able to bring the 1970 Pontiac LeMans we finished last year with that wonderful 455 Pontiac rumble as well as Kerry of Mechanical Advantage Garage with his 1967 GTO we recently recovered from Long Island. But before we get to the show, we've got to get a few things done then actually LEAVE the shop!
National events are an awesome experience for people looking to celebrate a specific brand and all things related to it, you won't find any other event on the calendar that will give you this. A Judged Car show, display area, cars for sale corral, swap meet, vendors, and of course lots and LOTS of racing we covered everything we could until the battery ran dry!
We hope you all enjoy this video, both Kerry and I enjoyed ourselves for sure even though we didn't get any $1 Ice Cream! (Let's face it neither of us need a bucket of ice cream)

Great video and enjoyed it. I have an all original 1968 Pontiac Tempest Custom Coupe. Was specifically ordered with Pontiac 350(282 hp) all still stock interior and under the hood. Has been in storage since 1998. She's coming out this yr 2023 and getting new bzll joints suspension, springs, and carpet, and door seals and felts. Already purchased parts. My plan is to have engine bored .30 over, heads redone for unleaded fuel, and put efi distributor on it. Edelbrock intake with 4 barrel as its a 2 barrel now. Can you say Powertour. Yeah baby. Like those races. I enjoyed your video but would have liked to have seen the car show at a slower pace. Thanks for taking on the journey. Great video! Was there with my light blue 63 Lemans LS3 and C5 transaxle, got no love except for you! Pontiac guys have their head in the sand refuse to join the 21st century. One guy cussed me because I put a Corvette motor in my car, no kidding. My car was Holley Presidents pick last year at LS Fest, drove it from Florida to this event. The judges check list had box to check for trailered or driven, still took points off for a little road grime under hood, also they wanted a tire jack in my restomod! Thanks again for your candid reaction to my original form but renewed function driver.

Scott, they can go to hell. I put a LS3 in my Trans Am w/ TKO600; amazing what 220+ pounds off the nose does! How did the transaxle swap go? do you have a link to a build page? my 71 is getting a 2020 L84 w/TKX swap

@@LucoreAuto they were a promotional item given away in the early 80s. We found this one and rebuilt the frame and got the body all painted up and new decals put on. It's an absolute blast to ride around.

Great Car Show! I watched Whole thing! So... what the hell motor is in ur LeMans? Trans? Butler sells complete built approx 462 cu. In. - $10k -$15k ; about 700hp enuff for '70 A-body to run Thanks dude! You Have no idea how great it is for you to walk around the car show just showing really cool hot rods and Pontiac! I've been an MS since 2010.... not only am i in California. But strolling around gets more challenging as this issue continues. Not Complaining but I really appreciate you Q and a showing sharing the sharing a show with all of us Thank you!! Jeff

After I build a motor with a flat tappet cam I'll break it in with Lucas zinc additive n maybe it will stay on a week or a month ..after that I use Valvoline conventional oil .. no additive at all

We actually HAD a 400 build in the works before this 455 decided it needed attention a couple years ago. It's on the back burner at the moment but certainly not forgotten. The smaller journals on the 400 and the much wider availability makes for a very appealing opportunity

Man, the 70 lemans sounds mean! Huge Pontiac fan, have owned my 69 gto for 30 years. Mine has a 70' 455 bored .60 over with ported #96 heads a torquer 2 with a holley 850. My dad's car was a 67 lemans we dubbed the Lemanster, it had a cowel hood with the words " 474 cubic inches of rat eating pontiac", had a butler 474 stroker with e-heads flowing 330cfm, ran mid to high 10's depending on traction etc!! Love the nationals, great footage! My dad and I went to the first annual Jim butler nationals in Leoma Tennessee some yrs back, such a fun time! We also went to the Pontiac nationals in Wichita Kansas one year, great memories with my pops!

Love the Pontiac content. Dad still has his 61 Bonneville he bought new. Still under 46,000 miles. 389 tri-power , 425a code. Engine has never been apart.

Austin you definitely need to build a drag car. That War Wagon was very cool, tubbed out and all. There was definitely a lot of beautiful cars there for sure. Those fake GTO`s that are actually and Phenix or Nova with GTO tags look like shit. The last real GTO was 72. Thanks Austin!!

One of the best part about this country is our obsession with our cars, especially classics. All through the summer car shows of all shapes and sizes all across the land. @@LucoreAuto I got my 76 corvette from my father after he passed so I don't know what anyone used before me but once i got it 12 years ago and upgraded the cam and some other parts I used it and the motor was still running when I pulled it out and cam still looks good. I'm no mechanic but it seemed to do it's job.Thats all I can go by.

The time and attention spent to styling back then was crazy compared with now. Every year you saw changes in bumpers, lights, body panels, who knows. The new "GTO" is a hell of a car... but nothing like the old greats.

@@LucoreAuto Yep you got it brother, and don't get me wrong it's a great car built by Holden but calling a rebadged Holden Monaro from Australia a GTO is not only a slap in the face to the Holden Monaro but also a huge slap in the face to the original GTOs from the 1960s as well.

I have *got* to get to some of these Nationals events someday! So many gorgeous cars in one place! That one with the Pearl paint you showed was just flat sick mechanically (from what I could see anyway) and I know the camera didn't do the paint justice but it looked damn nice as it was! Thanks for taking us allong again Austin! Hope you and Kerry make it home without the need for a flatbed!

I run Amsoil Z-Rod first choice and second choice is Joe Gibbs/Driven Hot Rod Oil. Works for me and my solid flt tappet cams.

@@LucoreAuto If your intent is just to check performance and sound quality's then I assume only one pair of however many you buy will be used in the long run. With all the projects y'all got around the shop I'm positive you could find homes for the 'lightly used' leftovers.👍 Can't say I have ever seen/heard a muffler comparison video anywhere, might be more interest in it that one might think.

Just makes me miss my my 71s firebird formula and grand prix sj. One day I'll be back there again. Exhaust testing is always fun to watch as a matter of fact project 6.0SS just blew the baffles out of a set of cheap summit 2 chamber mufflers. 6L LS can pump some serious air in and out LOL

I use Rotella or farm store equivalent / Penn in my transmission. Still odd to see JEGs in Delaware. I enjoyed going to JEGs in C-bus. Hitting all the spots and going home and dig through the PAW catalog.

Best video of event so far....and I like your jovial, happy go luck attitude, but how bout keeping the CAMERA on the CARS, until the clocks light up with the E.T. OF THE CARS at the finish line ? the highlight of the race is what time did the car run ? not the burnout. you need some camera training and discipline, you're all over the place....lol...some of the vid you only get the car to half track, then back to starting line for next one...

I’m late for everything, I’ll be late for my own funeral but no doubt I’ll be heading out of the driveway at 6:00 am sharp no problem for a car show! I fill the gas tank the night before, check everything over, line up my coolers, even input the address in the Garmin and have everything ready to load and roll!

“Always late”? The reason Austin is hamming it up about me being late is that I’m usually the early one and he’s the one running behind. It’s quite funny if you know that. Notice he started changing the oil at the time he told me we were leaving. If I had shown up on time I’d be waiting on him.

Your problem is you are waiting, leave his dead azz several times and he will get the message. Never had a flat tappet cam, always hydrolics. I ran Castrol 20/w50 with a wix filter on my trans am with a sd-455. No exceptions. I have not been to a Pontiac show for over 20 years. I am a 68 to 74 firebird and 68 to 72 gto guy. The 74 GTO is crappy! The only way to fix it is a hi po 455 and a 4 speed instead of the auto or 3 speed and a set of 3.72 gears. Then at least it would go, but would still look crappy.
