Still a solid package to do your mudding, off-roading, and on road cruising. The 5.7L HEMI is one of the best powerplants out there. Eventually this truck will fade away - However for now the price and package you get is still too good to not be considered for the best truck on the market.

At 90K is a great deal, at least it will last a long time if maintenance is kept up unlike the junk Ford is putting out with those garbage Ecoboost.

Great review. I’m glad they still offer the “knob” I’ve had six trucks with it and I love it. Takes up zero space. My Center storage holds tray of four big drinks perfectly.

I think Ram has the most innovative and functional truck overall. Storage everywhere which I absolutely love in a truck.

Love GT's added feature but not too crazy about the shifter. I like that freed up space in the regular Ram 1500.

My 2022 Rebel GT is on order. I should have it by mid February. Very good review. I know it may not be the “best” truck every but I was planning to order a 2022 Ram 1500 anyway and it has all the do-dads I really wanted plus some unexpected extras with the GT package.

I actually like the shifter in the center console. I own a F150 sport model and one of my favorite things in the center console with the shifter. The reason is that it is a comfortable place to rest my hand. I've driven an F150 without it and it just feels weird and uncomfortable to me. I guess just personal preference and yes, it looks cool (maybe I'm a little old school).

A good old column shifter would solve all the problems of both the knob, and console shifter. That's my biggest pet peeve with new trucks. Often times they create problems, by solving things that never were problems.

Column shifter is fine. Rather have shift linkage than electronic dials or push button transmissions. Just me.

The column shifter is a much more complex mechanism that wears out and fails much more often then the simple hockey puck that has some added safety features. If you have a problem with the column shifter it is costly to repair. The knob is super easy to replace if needed. Also, the column shifter can block access to buttons and the infotainment system. I love the console and will never buy another column shifter.

I personally don't like the knob, my nephew has a Ram with the knob & accidentally mistaking it for the radio knob driving down the road, luckily for him nothing happened when he turned it to park at 60mph. (Thinking he was turning the radio down) Enjoyed the video. Great review, 👍🏻

I personally prefer the rotary shifter for the space it frees up. I just wish they added paddle shifters to all Rams for when I want to limit gears or manually shift.

Wow amazing truck and amazing review. These are the truck you guys need to promote instead of the EV toys. The gas mileage is amazing for what it can offer. Simplicity. The hype on EV, is introducing so many new technology only a electronic engineer can fix and not your average mechanic.

Me and your dad grew up when dash boards were made out of steel, nobody wore seat belts because of drowning and a 8 track was the only tech you needed, power ports were cigarette lighters maybe cherry bomb mufflers if you was loaded. Still guys that’s one pretty truck!!!

Hi guys from Australia. Great review and thank you for the km/h conversion, you're the only video so far I've seen even bother to do it. 👍. I like the GT package but would like a knob instead of the shifter in the console. Can RAM possibly offer this.. ? It sounds great and that bonnet looks awesome. Hopefully get a ram soon. I'd be curious to see how this does towing 0-60 compared the last ram 1500 hemi you tested which only had a 3.21 gear if I remember right.

Haven’t figured out what the chime is with Uconnect 5 Tom Tom navigation system yet. My 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee does this.

I like the rotary shifter. Like that it is out of the way. Prefer it over the column shifter as well for the same reason.

Great video. I have one statement/ question. In regards to the rotary shifter vs. the console mounted shifter. The rotary gives you more storage? It's a pickup, you seriously NEED More storage? Really? I have an '11 Ram Sport with the console shifter and I refuse to replace the pickup due to the rotary shifter being the norm....oh, and for those of you have even been stuck in the mud or snow, have fun rocking the pickup back n forth to get unstuck with a rotary shifter!! Seriously, MORE storage?

Honest question, I thought the black plastic grille was normally a work truck cost cutting thing. Now it's an upcharge? In regard to the shifter, a column shift is the most space efficient, that would be my preference if I had to go auto.

I ordered a 2019 Big horn. IMHO, this is the sweet spot for the ram, all of the critical features of a truck including creature comforts like heated seats, but still a sane price tag and of course; you can tow and haul more than that expensive stuff. I've driven it 3 summers on the highway, and sticking to 105 km/h, it's drop dead easy to hit 20 to 23 mpg depending on head wind. I have the 3.21, this truck in your video is a 3.92 so you're crusing at approx 400 RPMs higher than me for a few hours, that's a large portion of the hit you see in MPG. That and winter gas lol. That's all with MDS disabled too, first thing I do when shifting into drive is turn off MDS. At this point, not only is "my" truck still relevant and amazing, I'd still purchase it over all the competition (except for a GMC SLE 10 speed diesel... but that's more money).

@@lorenzo7437 I paid for a v8. The hemi is more responsive with it off, and it doesn't seem to cost me anything in MPG (one of those features that works better in theory). And basically, I don't like the idea of running 4 cylinders at max load (the gas that used to go to the other 4 cylinders now goes to the 4 that are still firing so they're working very hard) with low RPMs, it's a recipe for lugging, heat, stress, and eventually failure. Just my opinion.

@@lorenzo7437 Did you try using the transmission/gear limiter? That's how we do it in the 5th gens, just press "-" once, then press "+" until you hit 8th gear but don't go past 8. Then the truck will still shift from 1 to 8 like normal but it will turn off MDS. Or, try using tow haul mode, that also works though that changes the shift points and holds the RPMs which you may not like.

Great video, very practical from two points of view. I'm surprised how many people prefer the rotary know, I absolutely hate it. But I drive for leisure, I don't haul or tow anything ever so maybe that's why I don't care about the loss of usable space. I appreciate that perspective because I never thought of it. In the end I this it's way over priced, 2019 I bought the limited for 65k and it has everything including the know I don't like

I've gone to the RAM website and built both a Rebel and Laramie and Neither gave a G/T package option, and i did select 2022 cause you can order either 21 or 22. Also I went to Ford and you can build a very well loaded Tremor for a lot less,

Maybe because I'm an old guy, I like a shifter although I've only used the knobs when I driven one of my kids cars I'll keep an open mind. I'm with you guys on the rearview camera in the mirror, a conventional mirrors fine especially considering I learned way back to use side mirrors. As to heads up display I'm not a fan but I can't blame it on old guy syndrome as your father likes it unless of course I'm older than him, I'm 68. I do like the rear tail gate though because when I've owned pickups reaching over to load can definitely be a pain. Anyway great video and it's a sharp looking truck, I kind of like the look better than the rebel.

The three points that RAM (and all truck manufacturers) need to work on are increasing payload and fuel economy, while drastically reducing the price (without losing anything that they're currently offering). An 1100 lb payload isn't much, especially at the price that you pay for a rig like that. I'm certain that fuel economy will improve, but it would really be nice to see a 5.7L HEMI powered true hybrid. Now THAT would be interesting! Unfortunately, the manufacturers are heading down a road on which they can't see that the bridge is out, up ahead. They're pricing themselves for a disastrous encounter with lack of sales, when people can no longer afford to buy the trucks. The profit margins on trucks are much greater than cars; and they're really pushing it. A truck like the 1500 GT should really be in the $55K range. They can't use R&D, or new technology as an excuse either, because everything they're offering is technology that has been around for a long time. They simply haven't been putting it in trucks, until now.

Stick with the BigHorn & don't buy something with so much tech & all that "luxurious" stuff in it & you can find yourself that 1500 Ram truck at 50k or less.

@@drinny23la4 You must work for Ford or GM! While they've been playing catch-up with the technology and luxury features that RAM has brought to the table. they've also bee working on trying to prevent it from reducing the payload too much. No! There's no excuses for it. We've reached a point where these vehicles can be constructed with lighter alloys, which offer superior strength than the old metals that they've been slowly phasing out. Cost shouldn't be a problem either, since those alloys aren't bleeding edge; and they've been manufacturing them enough around the globe to be nigh ubiquitous. We're not talking rare earth metals, either. Look at the way EV truck manufacturers are thinking outside the box. I loath EV's... and many of the designs are horrible... but at least they're trying to offer new solutions to problems that have been around for a while. There's no reason why the Big Three can't come up with a viable hybrid-V-8 luxury pickup truck, which not only offers respectable payload and tow capacities, but also gets GREAT fuel economy.

@@MickPsyphon no, I own a Ram, love the truck actually but I stuck with what I NEEDED......not got what I WANTED which makes a big difference. Obviously cost of everything will keep going up & trucks will be more expensive every year that keeps passing the problem is people keep buying & buying no matter how much they are asking for it. But hey I'm not an engineer I'm sure it cost a lot to built any vehicle now a days. Also I owned Ford as well but my favorite of all is Acura it out beats any brand vehicle out there so far on my books they are reliable & can run for years with 300k miles on it......on its original trans & motor which I currently own an 04 Acura RSX I been having for years with no major problems.

Stick with cheap trucks with no options. Most of us like all the tech and enjoy the options. I love my cooled seats in the summer and using the 360 degree camera for parking. Bring on high end trucks it’s what the consumer wants!

About the shifter...I have a Tundra and sometimes I use the manual mode...when it is slippery and snow covered roads. How does that work with a dial? Maybe if you there are paddles.

Jeebus... I put a rearview mirror/dashcam/rearview cam combo thing into my 2012 RAV4, and doing it up near and tidy, with not a wire in sight, cost me 150 CAD and a few hours' time. 1600 for that from the factory is nuts...

It's all the bels and whistles that drive up the price. Interestingly I have looking at 2021 left over because of rebates and looks like most or on the cheaper/less equiped side. The more expensive trucks sell.

If you are farsighted (old eyes in my case) the camera in the rear view mirror will bother you because the image is too close. Instead of the reflected image from well behind you in a normal mirror the image you are seeing is just a couple feet away.

They downgraded by putting the shifter there. People liked steering column shifter over knob. The center shifter takes room up over the knob as you guys said. The knob has grown on me as well seems more luxury.

Steering column shifter was never fascinating to none of my family members & myself lol. Prefer the knob over the other 2. It works just fine & no issues at all, the column shifter gets annoying AF always gotta watch that its not on reverse or Neutral or lower gear instead of Drive.

$3400 for the GT pkg eh. I put a Borla S type cat back exhaust and an S&B Intake in my Laramie for about $1800-$2000 in 2020. For that kind of money, Ide prefer to be unique in sound. There’s already enough trucks out there that look the same. I Rather that they don’t sound the same too. They better fix the exhaust manifold issue before adding more stuff to these trucks. If they really want to make an impact, make stainless short tube headers standard in these 5.7 Hemi engines. It’s only been an issue since the mid 2000s.

Great review, but give me the center console shifter vs. a knob any day. There's tons of "not practical" stuff on trucks (how's that exhaust for practicality, eh?), but that's not the point. It just feels better. The end.

I gotta agree that the knob shifter is more logical and functional. I personally think the GT is a fail just because of what it offers in relation with how much it costs.

Coming from a Camaro SS, I honestly preferred the Quad Cab 2 the Crew. This is my first truck and I didn't want to be driving around in a fcuking boat. Crew Cab was just too much rear space for a bachelor with no kids 😉

I agree on knob vs console shifter, but I'd take it one step further and go column shift. Free up the whole console.

@@justin________7477 yeah I like the column shifter also cause there's a better "feel" for switching from P to D and such. When we did manoeuvres with Tahoe's, you can reverse out and pull a Y turn faster without looking down and making sure you're in drive... Not sure that would be the case with the knob and you gotta reach out a bit more

Its about time you can get a console shifter again! I have used both the old console shifter, and the stupid rotary shifter. The reason i hated the rotary shifter has nothing to do with the dial itself. It has everything to do with the way you manually shift the transmission gears. If you want to lock the trans into a gear while towing, or compression braking down hill, i always had to take my eyes off the road, to find the stupid button on the steering wheel. But with the console shifter, you can easily shift it without looking. Now if Ram will put all the HVAC controls back on the dash where they belong, (as opposed to in a menu in the screen) I will trade in my 2011.

A few reasons I won't buy a GM anymore. 1) family lost jobs from the Oshawa fiasco 2) Gm shut down the trim plant in Windsor years ago, family affected 3) GM shut down its best quality transmission plant in Windsor years ago. Family affected 4) GM took the bailouts from 2008 then ran with the money to Mexico 5) a GM dealer here fought on the side to close the pulp mill, 330 jobs lost in a rural area with few decent paying jobs. I'm done with GM.

@@EC_ATV_Outdoors I had several letters to the editor published which protested GM's ingratitude towards Canadians. I don't forgive GM and I won't forget. Having said that, nobody else makes a single pickup in Canada despite the fact we are the second biggest pickup market in the world.

@@rightlanehog3151 I like to support Canada, so I own a Grand Caravan, made in my hometown. Chrysler has never screwed over my family. They aren't perfect either, but for that, I also own a RAM. I still have family at the Ford plant in Windsor. But I haven't had much luck with Ford. And their designs were junk when I was young. Nowadays they are much better.

cool looking and feature rich RAM. OMG, those MPG are horrendous in the 2022 yr. I think it is time for RAM to go even as an option, to a 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 twin turbo DGI engine. It's time and well over over due. Merci

That sounds terrible. Part of the reason people buy it is because of the classic V8 sound and power. Also small direct injection engine with turbos will use just as much gas and cause additional issues. Direct injection systems especially.

@@TPowell12 ... Actually, they do not use more fuel. They get better MPG's if you drive responsibly. The FORD Ecoboost has been around now for close to 10yrs and has a proven record. I use that as an example, because the FORD is the best selling truck in the USA. I totally get the sound. But, it's 2022, and MPG's should be more important in a NEW truck. Now, I did not say to keep the V8, just offer an alternative even if that alternative has a premium price.

@@biz4twobiz463 I also think engine choices are great as long as they don't move away from a V8 option. In my experience turbocharged 6 cylinder mpg varies significantly. I would rather avoid the complexity of turbos, hybrid systems, and direct injection. When it comes time to fix these systems it may cost more than the fuel savings are worth.

MPG is awful. My Trailboss got 10.8 Liter per 100km on a 75km commute yesterday, with lots of stop and go.

The only way price's will come back down to earth is if people stop buying trucks not paying these prices. It's crazy that people are willing to pay the price For a new truck right now. 3 or 4 years from when they go to trade it in for a new one, they will be belly up on their loans and might not be able to buy another one till what they owe is online with what the truck is worth.

that mpg is the same as my 2011 silverado with 3.42 diff. the ram probably has a lot more power.

Very nice truck and great exhaust note from the factory. Looks like I've been priced out of the new truck market, wow. I'll just keep piling the miles on my 2018 Sport, it has treated me quite well anyways. The shift knob seems just fine to me. I suspect the big price discounts will be back in 2 or 3 years. Only way I will buy another half ton. All that salt and mess on the 90k rig during the video is reason enough for a rational person to avoid trading often in Canada. Thanks again guys for the great content.

I never understood why people didn't like the knob shifter. I owned a '14 with the knob. It changes gears. People have WAY too much free time to worry about irrelevant stuff.

One of the best things I like about my 21 Ram 2500 is the huge console because they moved the shifter to the “knob”. Wouldn’t go back, such a waste of space. Also, 1100 lbs payload?? $90k!? Hard to believe my 2013 loaded Ram 1500 Laramie was less than $50k brand new 8 years ago. Prices are out of control in Canada.

No one needs a truck like the GT, so you're spending thousands of dollars on vanity. The functional elements of this truck can be found on much less expensive trim levels. My 2014 RAM 1500 SLT has everything I need and nothing I don't. The sticker price then was $40K U.S. It would probably be close to $50K now.

They killed the SLT, it be comparable to a big horn in the mid 50s now which is crazy. I remember In 2015ish you could get a volume truck in the high 30s OTD that was only 7 years ago.

Guys... You completely glossed over the fact that with the G/T shifter you can *MANUALLY SELECT THE RUNNING GEAR!!!* That, and the fact that you get *PADDLE SHIFTERS!!!* How could you not even comment on that??? And before you think it or say it, no it's not exclusively a sporty thing. There are actually very real practical and sensible use cases for manual gear control with paddle shifters. If you can't think of any, I don't know what you're doing.

Ram 1500 doesn't need tweaks. It's got the nicest interior in the class, the best exterior of the class, the best powertrains of the class, and it's just an all-around better truck than the competitors. It's amazing how far they've gone with the Ram 1500 in the last 25 years.

If you want a V8 you'd better act soon, what Im seeing is stories of its end being near. Stellantis is talking about replacing it with a turbo six without even the option of the V8 like in a Ford, but more like a Toyota. Sad days ahead.

$90+K for RAM, umm, no thanks. F150, Lariat 502a, 3.5L Full Hybrid, 500+ torque, power tailgate, Full tech pack, little above 5 seconds 0-100, with 7.2KW onboard pro power is my model with $83k tax included.
