I had a big dealership tell me I did the right thing when I told them my truck lost all the emissions crap. This was back on a 2015 ram the service department told me majority of the issues with the trucks are emissions equipment problems then causing engine problems. I know it's frowned upon now but when you spend 65-85k on a truck it better last you a long time. Deleting the emissions is still the only safe way to go for longevity.

Thank you Paul for stepping up to the plate to explain what you know so far. I realize you have a business reputation and a repair shop to maintain and it's a fine line to walk to go public with what you've learned, I thank you. Many of us have the 2022 Ram/Cummings trucks but we've spent a fortune by purchasing them and we depend, absolutely depend on them to perform as Ram/Cummings said they would, so the stakes are high, a lot is on the line and Ram/Cummings had better respond or the Ram/Cummings Reputation is lost forever. Blessings Paul, again thank you from all of us Ram Owners, we appreciate your insight.

I have a 19 with 99K miles on it and it’s doing the exact same thing. You can actually here a loss of compression as it misfires and it does it really bad upon first startup just like yours. It is hard to hear on video because I’ve posted several videos on the ol forums and everyone says oh it sounds fine lol. The dealer actually said it was fine too until I told them to start up the brand new one sitting right next to it and see if it does what ours are doing lol. Yeah it’s been in the shop torn down for a total of four months waiting on Chrysler to approve the new engine and they are fighting it every step of the way! The tech said it was the cam and lifters at first but they said upon further inspection after getting into the engine that the whole thing needs to be replaced which is exactly what I said from the beginning.

Nothing wrong with the trucks, his drivers are just too stupid to be driving diesels. Anyone who knows shit about trucks knows any emissions compliant diesel should not idle much. I’ve got a 22, it has 200,000 miles on it, it has 215 hours at idle. 1000% this guys “drivers” are to blame

I have a 21 as well. Awesome truck. 64k, no issues. Seems like the 21 is the best of the 5th gens so far. Cummins didn’t use sub par parts. Mopar did. They had Cummins add hydraulic lifters to the 19+s. You can’t even buy them from Cummins, it’s a mopar only part. All the 6.7s Cummins makes for other manufacturers still use the solid tappets and adjustable rockers, as all ISBs have used since their inception in 1998. Now we’re seeing cam and lifter failures in 6.7s, like the hemis have had since 09. This failure was virtually unheard of in a 5.9 or 6.7. Hydraulic lifters was a solution for a non existent problem.

Hemi engine builders have had a problem like this when pushing more power like putting blowers on them. They have found that the oil journals weren't allowing enough oil up the push rod and wiping out the roller tappits and the rockers. I'm not familiar with the Mopar moters and there oiling system however one engine builder said his solution was he drilled out the oil ports in the tappits and that stopped his engines from gernaiding the valve train.

I bought my 2007.5 at 18months old and 67000 miles. The DPF was totally clogged with ash. You cannot burn ash in the DPF. Of course I drove really fast down a horrible road and some stuff fell out. Hole saw took care of the ash problem. Oil change at 3000 15W-40. I don't care what they would say, no way I would run 5W in a diesel. Truck runs better than new still at 16 years old, 240000 miles 74,000 of which is towing at 25000 pounds all up, lots of backroads and mountains in that towing. RV traveler full time. It is that new Italian steel.

Lack of oil knowledge I see. It's a problem with DPF generation diesels because 15w-40 has higher ZDDP that cloggs DPF systems with metallic oxide ash. Problem#1 On problem#2 . (15-40) the 5w-40 is better oil. Especially synthetics. when cold it's 5w and then 40w when hot. Flow protects, NOT pressure which is a result of restricted oil flow. People are incredibly ignorant about oil.

I was going through the Ozarks down a big hill with the exhaust brake on and the curse had about 20k pounds behind me. The truck was picking up speed at about 74mph it down shifted and a second later it down shifted agan. Wound that tack around screamed the engine scared the hell out of me. I stomped on the accelerator to force an up shift, it shifted with a bang. It does this all the time now, It didn't do this on the first 2 trips. Told the dealers, they said they can't make it do it. So I don't think they don't believe me. Told them you would need a big load and hill. I am so sorry I got rid of my 15. All this boils down to the excessive emissions requirements. Before emission got out of hand it was typical see 500k or so before any major issues outside the trans which always fails. My argument has been. The air may be cleaner out the tail pipe, but the the vehicles life is much shorter and that just moves the emissions to the manufacturing and disposal process. I think if anything it makes the air dirtier when taking all this into account. Just most of it is move over seas.

You're totally right. For a modern diesel to make it to 150k you're doing pretty good. 20 years ago that was just breaking it in. It was not uncommon at all to see them with 300k miles still driving up and down the road every day. Now that's like the exception to the rule. They're throwaway trucks. Huge liability to own one past warranty. Don't forget also about all the hundreds of gallons of wasted fuel from regens and DEF and plastic containers/cardboard boxes, as well as the rare metals used in the overly elaborate exhaust system. And the so called "clean" air that comes out the exhaust will choke you out. Diesel fumes might stink but that ammonia is just nasty. It has made them unaffordable, impractical and unreliable. What a shame.

@@fewworddotrick I can see that with school buses in my local district. The older IC CEs with the Maxxforce DT and dt466e’s run like a clock and rarely have problems that keep them in the shop for long periods of time. The Cummins ones (even including the Thomas C2’s) have many issues that keep them in the shop for a long time and the 2022 ones are even worse. Those ones have subs run for their route for a long time. Not to mention that the Cummins engines generally feel weaker on acceleration than the Maxxforce DT’s and other older diesel engines. Too many Emissions components ruined diesels.

After leaving the dealer yesterday my truck did a regeneration with another regen this morning. No dealer can tell me the true process of what to do when my truck starts a regeneration; as of yesterday my truck said regeneration in progress continue driving. Now it just says regeneration in progress, not continue driving. I dont know.

2019 and newer models do not take 15/40 oil “15W-40 grade oil CAN NOT be used in any 2019 model year or newer 6.7L equipped vehicles due to the new designed valve train of this engine. Paul ever consider trying oil bypass filter that filters oil to 2 microns since your thinking the EGR is staying open more dumping more soot in the engine. Might help.

@Jon-O.
@Jon-O. 9 ай бұрын
I'm sorry seafoam doesn't do much of anything. Amsoil engine flush will do way more to loosening coked soot because it thins out the oil helping to flush oil galleys and hydraulic lifters for 15 minutes before changing the oil. But if the cam is delaminating nothing can prevent failure with that then valve train pulverizes itself or lifter plugging because the oil port is to small in the lifter and it never expands again pulverizing the valve train. The lifter issue is possibly preventable with oil bypass filtration to 2 microns removing all soot greater than 2 micron size. Ergo lifters oil ports stay clear and don't clog. Then if it still happens you now it's the cam.

Don't emission changes go into affect January 1. So a '22 built, lets say 10/31/21, will actually have a '21 emission certification package. Not sure if any changes were mandated for 01/01/2022. Remember this back in 2004. The pre 01/01/2004 trucks did not have a catalytic converter. Trucks built 01/01/2004 and later had a cat. The trucks with the cat converter always had a lot more soot in the oil.

However, I'd be curious to know if Chrysler/Stelantis resorted to using 2nd rate parts from alternate vendors due to "supply chain issues". Maybe bad quality control would explain some of the recalls, etc.

The grid heater bolt becomes an issue when the relay stays on and enough amperage runs thru the bolt. Makes it brittle and it falls off. My 08 had the original grid heater installed and never had an issue falling into the engine. I recently took it out since I got a good deal on a grid heater delete plate. You have less then a 1% chance of that bolt failing
