Jays sweep Boston. 40-10. I thought you Canadians were supposed to be nice. Lol. You must have been geeked. Nice shop tour btw. Thanks

Good tour, nice shop, well narrated. I am north of Barrie, and noticed you are missing a salamander or 220V heater. How do you get the temp above freezing when you want to putter in the shop? I use a propane salamander to take the initial chill off then I use my 220V construction heater to keep it between 5-10deg C. I think your wood storage is about the best you can get. It is always hard to cull the offcut / scrap pile. I am getting better at it, and donate the small stuff to a neighbor who has a wood stove in his garage. I just sold my amazing craftsman cast iron belt drive saw and replaced it with a rigid fold up on wheels. Best $400 I have spent, I did not use the saw enough to justify the footprint it took in my shop. Now if I need it, I roll it out flip it up on the stand and cut! I love the extra space it gave me. Thumbs up and subscribed!

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! I have a small-ish (1500W) ceramic heater mounted on the wall, which can get the shop up to about 5C as long as it wasn't too cold to start. My general approach is to wrap up my projects prior to Christmas, then rely on very limited time in the shop in January and February. Luckily we're about to enter a warm spell (10 days above freezing), so I'm hoping to get some more time out there over that time. Thanks for the comment about the wood storage - I've actually changed this up quite a bit since this video as I've shifted more to cabinet making. Now I have a large 30x80" DIY-MFT table and the need to store copious amounts of sheet goods...it's going to be interesting once I ramp up projects in a month or so, haha! Once I finish a couple of small shop projects, I'll put together an updated tour video! Stay tuned.

Thanks for the tour. I oddly am tickled to see a shop tour where everythng is not SUPER organized but is like a normal humans shop lol. I love seeing the mastercraft and Craftex stuff Lets me know you`re a fellow great white northener. Are you happy with your craftex disc sander? I think about getting one except that Craftex is not exactly top tier quality but that might not matter in this case. That said, i pulled the trigger on the hepa canister filter for my Ct053 dust collector (like yours) and I love it. I highly reccommend switching out that cloth bag. Happy Canada day.

Thanks Glenn! This was after a good vacuum of all the spider webs, so it’s about as clean and organized as it gets. I’ve been really happy with the Craftex sander and their CX series is generally quite good quality. The sander has gotten a lot more expensive as I only paid $180 for a couple of years ago. The dust collector has generally been sufficient for my needs, but I’m very interested in the HEPA filter as I’m trying to take dust collection/extraction much more seriously. Funny that the filter costs much more than the collector itself, haha!

dude you have a good table saw . you build cabinets you do want a smaller saw if anything youll want a bigger heavier one.that is if your going to take it seriouns

Very much appreciate the comment, and it hasn’t skewed my thinking towards keeping what I have and pushing it up against a wall when I’m not using it. I can also make the track saw-centric table I want to make double as an outfeed table.

Great tour thanks a lot! I moved from that same dewalt orbital sander to a festool sander connected to a festool vac and as embarrassing as the price of that stuff is, it was a huge quality of life upgrade. I still don't love sanding, but I don't dread it anymore either. Take care!

Thanks Nathan! Right now my plan (in order) is to get the Festool cordless track saw, then 1400 router, then sander. They are indeed expensive, but the time I have in the shop is often limited, so the reduced setup time and improve dust management is well worth it for me.

Nice to see I am not the only 1 car garage woodworker in Southwestern Ontario that too will freeze his hands off in the winter (noticed the uninsulated garage ceiling much like mine). Happy Canada friend and sadly the Blue Jays did not sweep the Red Socks but maybe we can sweep the Rays? (stranger things have happened)

Beautiful shop. I love the iGauging bench squares and their setup blocks. LV Veritas is my favorite place to spend money. I want every plane they make. Wish they made a tongue and groove specific tool like the Stanley->Lie Nielsen. I’m hunting for a used goose-neck bench hold down that they discontinued. It just looks neat even though I have the one with the big knob.

That’s exciting! As much as I want the dream shop built in the backyard, a single car garage can be effectively set up for most of my needs. It was a little too packed when I had a jointer and bandsaw, though.

Have you tried using your cordless DeWalt sander or router with a bigger Ah battery? I found that my small, DeWalt DCV581 vac improves dramatically with a 6- or 9-Ah FlexVolt battery, but haven’t tried it with those tools (While it also has a cord, we usually keep a battery in the vac, and seldom plug it in).
@MasonWoodshop2 жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting idea! I’ve tried it with an XR 5Ah battery, but not my bigger 6 Ah. I might give that a shot, even if it’s a bit unwieldy.
