You guys have a great review style for a broad audience. So many youtube reviews seem to be geared towards enthusiasts while I want to know what affects me as a mom, around an average town, as a person with family members of varying heights, etc. I appreciate that you talk about things like comfort, child seats, accessibility, amenities for convenience, etc. Thanks!

I've had my '14 Forester for over eight years and hope to keep it eight more (I don't put tons of miles on it). It's well built, very practical, reliable and economical. For me, the cvt is only bothersome in certain situations, such as long uphill highway stretches or accelerating up on ramps. Maybe I'm just used to it after all these years. The amazing visibility out of the Forester makes most other vehicles seem claustrophobic.

When people test other CVT's they will respect the Subaru's much more. Like they said if you are not abusing the CVT it should last for a life time. I had a 2010 Outback with over 200k never once had any transmission issues. Only time I see people with issue is when they abuse the towing capacity.

Researched this car segment for the last 2 months, my findings, - 5th gen forester rated #1 in safety and readability over all others including RAV, trial hawk, honda and bronco. That said, it has been a long road for Subaru from the CVT tranny , oil consumption, head gasket issues of past generation vehicles. At 6'3, CR just announced the Forester is #1 with tall drivers as well, no surprise as the "green house" visibility is very attractive. All the safety dings can be disabled permanently, with the exception of engine on/off at stop. After market solution will solve that as well. So, I will be picking up my Subaru Forester Wilderness / pearl white next week. Comfortable driving on and off road, safety and readability, looks, honest service advisors that I have visited with during this time, all have pushed me this direction. And finally driving my daughters 2017 Forester premium, sold me on being a Subie owner. Suggested maintenance to ensure long life; 30k diff (F/R) service, 40k CVT Transmission service, and oil changes every 4k. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kKyPfdeYr53Fe4U.html, FW new gearing much more high impact then the turbo on the Outback, and the turbo fights with other features of the vehicle HAPPY TRAILS

I love the practicality of the Subaru Forester. I had a 2019 Forester Sport and now have the 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness in Autumn Green. It’s my Goldilocks vehicle. Very practical as a dog owner as well. Easy to clean seats even though I protect them with a dog hammock, accidents do happen dirt and otherwise. Not a speed demon but extremely practical vehicle.Another bonus to the wilderness edition is the upgraded towing capacity.

I think this one will last a while, I've got one, and I think the main issue with the Subaru CVTs is that at least in the states, they say the fluid is lifetime whereas in other countries, it recommends to change the fluid every 20k-30k miles so that's what I'm gonna do. Another issue is the cvt heat... a lot of other countries offer them with an extra transmission cooler, not North America. And being a previous owner of a '19 forester, the transmissions got REALLY hot in normal driving. The wilderness though comes with a cooler, and as a current owner of one, I haven't even gotten close to the temps my old '19 got to on day to day commuting driving, while offroading my wilderness going up mountains.
@JDS-Dalton
@JDS-Dalton 2 жыл бұрын
I traded in my '19 forester sport for the wilderness in the same color you reviewed, and I love it. I don't experience the same rev issue you did when accelerating though, very smooth. And I like the fact that they actually have a transmission cooler on this trim, as I would monitor the temps on both. The old '19s cvt ran very hot, and while this one uses a tuned version of that transmission, thanks to the cooling and the revised ratios/final drive, it stays at least 30-40 degrees cooler than my '19. And best of all, the cooler is factory warrantied haha. That being said, coming from a previously lifted forester, I had to give this one a proper lift, with larger all terrain tires.

Thanks for the excellent review. I just bought a 2023 Forester Wilderness in the Geyser Blue like you are driving here. For a guy who is 6'2", and has had 8 spine surgeries, the ease of access, high roofline, and superb visibility (without twisting my back too much) was a no-brainer. My wife has a 2021 Outback Limited, but is a bit difficult for me to get in/out of and has much less visibility from the driver's seat. As for the powertrain, yeah, I'd sure love a turbo option vs this 2.5 NA, but the FW is perfectly acceptable for all driving environments. If they come out with a turbo FW in a couple years, I'd definitely consider trading up. Thanks again.

I think the Forester is a nice vehicle. It has just a bit more of a personality than say your average CR-V or Rav4. I think it's nice, but a bit boring, though not as boring as the aforementioned vehicles it's competing against. It is at a good price point. If you are tired of seeing 40k+ sticker SUVs, then this is a solid choice. The visibility out of these things also is unmatched, you can really see out of them. I recently rode in my sisters slightly newer Forester and it had such a fishbowl effect

Subaru's CVT tuning isn't great. I noticed that inconsistency with my 2021 Legacy with the 2.4 turbo and CVT. Just as you did I can put my foot down about half way for a long onramp to a freeway and it will rev up and down and hunt back and forth even though I'm not moving my foot. I really wish they'd get that improved and do a software update or whatever.

@@theBatmanGoeth2just have to jump in to say that the wilderness trims use a tuned version of the transmission in the normal trims. That being said, the outbacks, turbo legacies and the ascents all share the same tr690 transmission. The foresters use a different tr580 transmission, with the forester wilderness trim using a tuned version of that. That being said to Jeff .. that is pretty odd, and would be annoying.. I will say though as a forester wilderness owner, it accelerates very smoothly, odd that the one in this video was doing that though, wonder if it had something to do with it being a review car.

And this is what makes Subaru different it seems. Subaru drivers don't care what they look like when they're driving down the road. No pretense. Subaru is what it is, which is why they really don't change that much. Subaru knows its drivers, and keeps giving them what they want. And what they're perfectly fine with. There are plenty of higher maintenance "AWDs" out there for those who need to "look good" on the road, and desire a Lexus-like interior. ;) Subaru is what it is.

I’m sure it would be better if they tuned the CVT properly so it would stay in the power band instead of fake shifting, but then everyone complains about the drone. So no winning either way. But woefully underpowered for the class, not even 2xx hp. Man I remembering wanting the STI versions of these, now I want nothing to do with them

Yes let’s begin with the 1990 interior colors of 1990 and then let us move to the 1970s vinyl interior, that we have renamed. Next let us go to the CVT which robs the Gutless 2.5 naturally aspirated 4 banger from much needed hp, torque and mpg. After all Subaru cares about emissions and fuel economy 🤣🤣🤣, then let us go now to the cheapest exterior cladding, again from the late 80s. Now that we’re in the 21st century, forget about an reliable non plug-in hybrid system because we are Subaru and are known for being behind the times and being quirky. Yes we are Subaru, coming to North America live from 1987. Where old school technology and the right advertising can brain wash you in thinking we care about the environment and of course animals, who will suffer from the pollution our non hybrids produce. But hey, we get you through the bad weather and offer 1980s fuel economy and pollution, but We’re an awesome car

Subaru’s are getting uglier and uglier these days. They must have stock in a black plastic company.
